Using my Graco Magnum X7 for the first time

- I bought a Graco X7 on sale off Amazon and this is the first time I've had a chance to use it. Really awesome Airless Sprayer! After doing a lot of research I made the choice to get the Graco X7 and I'm glad I did.
Check out the sprayer on Amazon: amzn.to/3e2ceoL
I'm assuming if you DIY, you like to save money. I have a blog on living Debt-Free if you want to check it out: strictmoneymas...
Put your 1 gal cans of paint in an empty 5 gal bucket. If you do you will never know the pains I have gone through without using one! Use a single pass of the gun instead of back and forth over the same areas by adjusting your speed so you have good coverage and overlap each pass by 1/2 pattern width. With a 313 tip that sprays a 6-7" wide pattern , aim the center of the gun at the bottom of the last pass so there is a 1/2 pattern overlap. Watch paintlife's videos on how to spray.
Thanks so much for the advice! All new to spraying but I like it so far!
Update: Man I'm so happy I bought this X7. I just painted two bedrooms and a bathroom and two closet including the ceiling of all of them in less than two hours. And that was the first time I have used one of these. I have my whole interior and exterior of my house to paint and the garage so this is money well spent.
It's amazing how fast it goes when you're spraying! I just got done painting a fifth wheel camper and I can't imagine painting it any other way!
Your technique is way off. Never move the sprayer back and forth without releasing the trigger. Use a single sweeping motion and only trigger the paint when the gun is moving. Release the trigger at the end of the stroke. If you sweep back and forth without releasing the trigger the paint doubles up as you stop each stroke at the end of each sweep when you change direction. I typically paint only in one direction starting and stopping the trigger at the beginning and end of each stroke. Thanks for the demo.
I hope I did not come across as judgemental. It was late when I wrote it and I might have sounded a bit unkind. I learned my painting technique from a friend who was the personal painter for Elmer Hubacher's personal car collection. Together we painted my 1971 Chevy El Camino and I learned so much about spray painting technique from this man. While airless painting latex paint for home use is far less critical than painting a car, some of the principles are the same. I am looking for an airless system for home use and I really appreciate your review. It is a lot different from car painting with a cup gun. I wanted to see how the X7 system works, so I appreciate your video. I am leaning towards the Graco Magnum ProX19, so I am looking for any input regarding any Graco system. Thanks again for your review.
Use a 313 tip on this project and it will cut down on overspray and also release the trigger at the end of the pass. Paint can carry a long way if there is any wind and get on cars at your neighbors house so be careful
mrchezze84 thanks for the advice! This was my first time so it was pretty terrible😂
Dude...WEAR A MASK!
Dude... shut up!!
Don't want to.
@@bluekrait6612 wth😂😂😂😂
Good for you. I was a painter for a lot of years and it's good to see someone step up and give it a try. Initially, you were to close to your work when you were testing for a spray pattern on the piece of wood you had on the ground. I also noticed a great deal of overspray when you were painting the doors. But you said you changed tips and that was the right thing to do. It's just something you have to practice. Have fun.
Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate it when people give good advice instead of just blasting with insults. I use youtube to learn and people like you make it better.
Jim Graves what size spray tip for an exterior using latex? I have a new Graco proX17. would you recommend using a tip extension too? What about hose whips? Thx
Forgot to Prime the gun. Set gun to declog, hold trigger open and run the machine until paint comes out the gun.
No doubt your neighbours were breathing all the overspay ...how not to airspray😂🤣😅😆
Agreed! That's a newbie sprayer for you :)
Nice set-up..much easier than dragging a compressor around. Otherwise...What hospital should we send " get well soon" cards ?? Step # 1) Goggles + Mask !!! Can you spell Carcinogen ??? and no.. The cool sunglasses don't protect your eyes from over spray and or paint out-gasing.
definitely a newbie mistake. Fortunately, I was outside but I realize, STUPID. Thanks for the comment!
Nobody gonna say anything about the kid on the bike in the beginning of the video? Lol
LOL. Life happens :)
The large use of paint was mainly do the the tip choice, the over-spray and the amount of passes you were making....once you get used to the unit and find the correct tip size, you'll start painting in single passes with a nice overlap and you'll use less paint. Nice job by the way :)
Thanks so much for the comment and advice! I really appreciate it :)
Dudes painting the fence too with overspray
Yeah, it was pretty bad but it was my first time. It was more about showing the sprayer and less about my painting skill. Thanks for the comment.
Just bought a Graco X7 Magnum at Lowe's I enjoyed your video I'm ready to start using this on some doors!
Mine has been a lifesaver on some big projects!! Hope you love it.
Does using oil base or water base make a big difference besides the cleaning
Fun, fun. A man with a new tool. It looks like your enjoying the process of learning a new tool.
It's awesome! I love playing with new toys :)

I just ordered the Pro X19 from Sherwinn Williams. They are having a big paint and equipment sale. I'm getting it for around $470. $500 was my pain threshold. I'm just adding it to my arsenal of tools for when I need it which was like 3 weeks ago. That project is done!!! I purchased a electric impact driver for removing hot water heater anod rods but have yet to use it. Got that tool New Years day. Going to a friend's house to try it out on water tanks. Charging $150 apiece.
@@michaelprosperity3420 I'm sure you'll love it!
DUDE! YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC IS SO MUCH LOUDER THAN YOUR VOICE LEVEL IT KILLED MY EARS!! - GEEZ!! sorry for yelling heh
Can you use traffic paint with this machine. Would you recommend it for like curb painting?
Also how long can it run for?
Thanks in advance and great vid btw.
Very helpful, thank you for posting.
About 3-4 gallons in, brand new unit....it stopped working. Has a burned electronic odor.
Thanks mate
How do you think this would do indoors? Seems like a lot of overspray. I have a Wagner I used to paint the exterior of my home. Might just use it for the inside instead of this?
So how much paint did you use on those doors? I just got my x7 and I am really looking forward to using it in the morning.
Honestly, I don't remember. I will say you'll end up using more paint with a sprayer though. Good luck!
Thanks
Was there a problem moving the sprayer? I hear that you can't move it without spilling paint when full.
You helped big time man, thank you for posting.
Thanks!
Nice work good thing there was no overspray..
I bought one and it wouldn't suck up the paint, is it true that you have to add 1 pint of water to cut the paint?or else it will be to thick to pick it up..the paint was for interior painting
Is all that overspray normal?
No, it's not. It was my first time spraying so my technique was terrible! I've gotten a little better since but it does take some practice :)
I like your video man, do you think it would be appropriate for someone who has just started a small one-man painting business...with regular sizes homes? E.g. a three-bedroom house 1 bath etc
i just got one...great for new constrution...lots of prep. i suggest you find a partner that is skilled in taping. otherwise i m thinking wide roller still the best.
doing a whole house atm. no floors to deal with or trim atm. so in that situation...its perfect
@@greenpantherx727 Thanks bro,I wish you all the best
I must have done something wrong. First time I used my X7 on our basement concrete walls, we got paint dust EVERYWHERE. We had to spend the next 2 days cleaning everything in there. I don't know if this is to be expected from a sprayer, OR was it my fault because i opened the doors and put a box fan at the far end of the room thinking it would circulate the air for my breathing better. If someone can shed some light on whether this was my mistake or if this is what is to be expected from the sprayer, that would be great. I am leary to complete the job with the sprayer. Thanks to anyone who can offer some insight.
Too much pressure
What about the X5? Would you recommend it for paint interior walls and cabinets?
Ese Canelo alvares
Lol!
Thank you sir, helpful
Do you set it to the highest setting to spray? I am spraying a house and using Behr Premium Ultra and i sprays like butter, like cream but it puts out a lot of paint. I have it on highest setting.
I’ve never used the highest setting. I usually set it mid way and yes it does use a lot of paint!!
Lowest pressure needed to get coverage. Usually ¼ way up. If you need higher pressure try thinning with water for water based paint
@@vanessaziobro1118 Not sure if you know what you’re talking about or not. I would spray those at at least 2,000 psi and this is not a high quality sprayer. All the way up is probably close to right.
Think I would wear a mask
wjb111 if I was inside I definitely would.
Lee Logsdon You are absorbing it not matter if its outside
Nice video. Thank you
Nice,sold
7:19 - Just for the heck of it or just for the affiliate commission?
I'm no longer an amazon affiliate so at least for this video it's "just for the heck of it". :)
No breathing protection and poor spraying technique. Its not a paintbrush.
I always appreciate it when people can make suggestions for improvement instead of just criticizing. Thanks for the comment but if you're an experienced painter, offer suggestions. This video wasn't about my painting skills as I'm not a professional painter.
@@leejonlogsdon I totally agree with you. You try to give a review and people can't keep their opinions to themselves. Thanks for sharing your video as I just bought one.
@@jeffreyroth6849 Thanks for comment! I love youtube and have learned so much from people on here, just trying to add some value for others. I'm sure you'll love your sprayer!
I agree with you that people should offer suggestions instead of insults. I appreciated you posting this video as I have been doing a lot of research and plan to purchase one this evening. Thanks again!
I came here to see reviews on this machine and found your video. I think I’m sold on it. I have a huge paint project coming up, the estimate for the outside of my house alone was $2200, I still have other stuff on the inside that needs painted. Gonna go buy this now. Thanks
I'm so glad you got something useful out of the video. I hope you love your sprayer, I know I love mine!
Just bought one an hour ago! Thanks for the vid!

Lee Logsdon I’m ordering one now, thank you sir for the video

does this graco x7 carry the bucket(or hold it on its support) if you have to movie it to a different room on its wheels?
It does but I don't think it works very well especially if your bucket is very full.
Yes it does
No bucket holder, which was diasppointing. You have to drag the bucket while trying to roll the sprayer.
It seems like you could put a shelf between the 2 legs to hold a fiver.
