dude you're a life saver. i decided to power up my switch after over 2 years of not using it and it wasnt working in dock mode. this video helped me fix it. the dock was really dusty so i whipped out my electric air duster and cleaned it out
This was getting so frustrating: reseating the console over and over, moving the HDMI cable around, hard restart. Turned out the power cable wasn't in all the way. I didn't think that mattered until I watched this video. Thanks!!
thank you, you reminded me of the ac adapter, which was for some reason out of, and after connecting it had worked. a million thanks to you.
Thank you this helped a lot! I cleaned every port with a toothbrush and it didn’t work. Then I did the same thing only this time using 70% isopropyl alcohol and it started working once again.
Edit: After doing this I got the green flashing light of death, but at least it responded. I ended up having to take apart the doc and getting behind the circuit board. There’s a black and red wire attached to a white connector. While my dock was plugged into the wall and the HDMI plugged into the tv and my switch docked, I had to take out the connector, insert it back in only half way then take it out then insert it half in until I got the steady green light. Once I got the steady green light I plugged it fully in, played a few hours and hadn’t had a problem since.
It did not help me with what I needed to know, but you did touched some other things I wasn't aware of. 👍
Thank you for this video. It is very helpful.
I dock my switch into my pc and it shows a green light on the Dock but nothing on obs and when I press the power button on my docked switch the green light on the switch goes off
Same here bro 😢
Do you mean a monitor?
Plug it into the monitor
Mine too
me too, have you figured out how to fix that?
Thank you so much! My switch was not connecting and I fixed the power cable, then it worked just fine. This was super helpful :))
Cool
How do you fix power cable
@@KuSShed0utOn the back of the dock, you can open it up and see if the cord is plugged in.
This video helped in a way you didn’t even know. I didn’t release I needed that adapter and I plugged it in and it worked
Solution 9 helped me out. Thanks very much.
This helped a lot. Thank you!
Great video. Solution 2 worked for me. Thank you.
Thank you. This helped us fix the problem. 😊
thank you, this worked for me! switch power to the wall not to an extension cord was all I needed
I went through all of these steps, but then I just did the old fashioned "turn it all off, turn it all back on." Worked like a charm!
Very helpful, thanks
Thank you this actually worked
Thank you! You saved this Non-tech Mom trying to help her son!
Dude I’m at my cousins house right now, and he had an old switch and asked if I wanted it. He had bought a new switch because his didn’t work. The only problem with the old one is that it didn’t link to the TV, so after hard reset, it actually connected and we are going nuts. Thanks dude, your a legend.
How did you do the hard reset?
I did factory reset, but the switch still doesn't connect. I celebrated too soon.@@halomaniatico100
I'm THE worst when it comes to technology! This video helped me hook the switch up to a TV for my boys! I know it's supposed to be "easy" but I didn't have a clue. I appreciate it so much!
Age of information. It does have some pros. Way to go!
Thank you sir! My switch now works!
"You have put together a wonderful troubleshooting video...I almost put my foot through the screen, changing wires etc...then I watched this video!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!!! This granny can't say thanx enough...a heatwave...kids..and heaven forbid NO SWITCH!!!...ARGH!!!...my tribe also says TY!!!
The switch I have the issue with might have a problem with its port. We have 2 switches. 1 is a dock killer . It charges and such if plugged in but will not work on a dock
What if the screen is broken on the switch can it still connect
THANKS YOU ARE A LIVE SAVER
Cleaning the switch dock is what helped me lol. I assumed it was broken because it’d charge, but it wouldn’t display on my tv until i cleaned it
God BLESS YOU, it was the wall switch for me 😮💨
I have an issue myself and not sure how to approach it. I connected my Switch to the power and to the tv and at first the image appeared on the tv and the tv recognized the device as a Nintendo Switch. But all of a sudden the screen went black, and then it came back up, and then black again, and then back up. It is not the exact same pattern always either, the time the screen remains working/black varies every time
Same here, except now mine went black and won’t come back. I guess the saying is true. Once you go black you can never go back
Mine is showing up green but won’t show on tv
sameee
Highly engaging!
saved me a trip to the store to replace it! 🙏🏾
Does the reduced factory reset have a 100% chance of keeping game data?
The cleaning method helped, I use a cotton stuck and blowing to get rid of dust and it worked
Great video, amazing creater ❤
Thanks.. Unplugged both sides of power cable worked again
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks very much! 👍
My old Switch dock(2017) got some problems and so I bought a new dock, the animal crossing version dock (2020). But can’t show any video on tv after plugging all the cables from the old dock and don’t know why. It seems the console can’t connect with the new one though the green light of new dock is on.
I cleaned the USB port of the dock like you said, thank you so much, you relieved 30 min of pure frustration
Thanks! Springs for me!
Thank you so much ❤
Thank you so much
If the dock isn't properly getting into the switch could it still charge?, my dad is having the problem where his switch is fine and charges (and the green light on the dock comes on when u dock it) but it isn't being displayed on the TV, it was working fine on the TV just yesterday too, I know its not the dock of the cables because I put his switch in my dock and it still wasn't displaying on the TV and I just made sure mine was working in his dock on his TV.
So it looks like dads switch charging port which is what connects it to the dock is slightly damaged (well it is i can see as much looking at it but it still charges so it can't be completely damaged).
having same issue on a switch of mines, may have to find a repair video on it and do it myself
I have the exact same issue and haven't found a solution yet.
For a game that has no significance between versions(smo), does save data stay?
This video helped me!!!!!!
Solution #9 was what worked for me. Who would of thought?
I had to firmly press mine like twice and I heard a "pop!"
probably dust etc... havent played switch in months. Liked
Thanks bro!
Good to do the list, so You know what You have.
Thank you 👍👍
What hdmi cord do I use it didn’t work for mine I’ve tried so many times
Thank you it worked 5 one
Okay, it's working, now. I think the tip of the cord was backwards? Is that a thing?
You are the BEST!
Thanks It Really Helped this is the solution that helped me: 2:27
NONE OF THEM WORKED
Mine either 😭
Then that mean your dock is broken, you gott have to by a new one
Thanks!
Thank you ,if was not for you I would've buyer a new dock
What if everything about the dock is fine, but your nintendo switch screen is crack, does that cause the screen not to pop up?
I place my Nintendo in the dock but it only shows the screen on my tv for a split second what could be the problem or what can I do
My dockfell off my dresser and I shows the light when I connect it but it won't go on to the tv
THANK YOU❤❤
I cant remember if he mentioned it but, what worked for me was completely shutting off my switch and then powering it back on while docked
Before Buying a New Doke And a new swich cable i unplugged everything from the swich the hdmi cable and the ac adpted cable and then i will plug it back tomorrow to see if it work but i am certain it will not
My AC adapter works just fine, so does my HDMI cable. When I dock my Switch it charges, and the green light comes on. When I connect it to my roku TV, on the HDMI 1 channel it shows that my switch is connected. But when I select the channel it says that there is no signal. I tried using my friends dock as well and it doesn't work either. Any suggestions??
I got the same issue on my new Vizio TV too. Tried two docks, diff hdmi cables. Power cord is working. But it won’t come onto the tv. Also cleaned the ports with a tooth brush too
Was playing in docked mode about 20 minutes ago and the tv pic suddenly disappeared, I tried un/replugging both the ac adapter and hdmi cables on both ends, switching hdmi ports, restarting the Switch itself, and I think one or two other things, then found this video, did the "plug AC adapter directly into switch" thing @98% battery and the battery symbol wasn't turning green. Tried a different outlet, same thing, so I'm pretty sure my AC adapter just up and died :/
The problem I have is that the doc works, but I cannot see the switch on the television, however, if I put another switch in the Dock it can be seen on the television. How can i fix this? I bought a new HDMI cable and it doesn't work either.
lol thanks! I think I always forgot to turn on the switch after I put it in the dock, they always turn off by itself 😂😂
Everything is connected in the right place, the green light is on, and our tv even recognizes that something is connected but the switch screen still doesn’t show up. My siblings switch is 4 ish years old but still functions properly. My switch is 2 ish years old but it functions properly and the switch screen shows up on the tv with the same exact settings on the tv, the same dock, the same HDMI cord, and the same AC adapter. What the heck!!!
SAME HERE IM SO CONFUSED
did you fix it?
same bruhhhh
if your TV has a detection feature make sure it detects the device b4 u use it
BRUHHH SAME
My house got hit by lightning the switch wasn't connected to the dock at the time. But now the switch doesn't appear on the tv. The green light is on while its docked and charging. Any ideas if there is anything i can do to fix it? I am thinking the lightning probably fried the HDMI port.
I do not know any techniques to try, other than the ones in the video.
thanks
My dock when i put my switch into it flashes its green light on and off and doesn’t put on my tv
Okay, I have a unique situation, my friend gifted me his old switch for my birthday, he didn't give me a dock, on Christmas, my family bought a new Nintendo switch for the family to use, that switch connects to the dock just fine, but for some reason my used switch won't work for the tv, what could be the issue?
Everything working but my TV is saying it has no power even though the switch is charging on and the picture will show up but after some seconds the TV screen goes black
Can someone help me because i can not seem to change my resolution for my nintendo switch , when i put 720 p or higher it will show up a no signal at my tv, im only stuck at 480 p resolution of my nintendo switch
It was solution 5 for me.
I accidentally stepped on the “OFF” button on my power strip 😅
My switch still doesn’t connect, but different switches work on the same dock. Do i need to have mine repaired?
Same thing happened to me!! I had my brother try my switch in his dock and his switch and my dock. Not working :(
Thank you how to x ❤
Thank you its work solution 3😂😂😂
My old dock works with my old switch and my oled dock works with my oled switch and they both charge interchangeably but if i switch the docks it wont show the picture on the tv. Nintendo's website says they should be able to be used interchangeably for tv play. Anyone else having the same problem?
I have two switch docks. They both charge but do not display on any TV in house. I bought a new hdmi cable and that didn't help. I have the original adapter power source and is from 6 months old so I don't think it's that especially since it charges. The hdmi cables work on my Xbox. I am at work so haven't tried any of these problems but has anyone had this same problem and did one of these solutions work?
Weird solution my switch charger and port are fine but I wouldn’t connect so I taped down the spring loaded part of the doc and it works fine
Solution five when he said, if it you have to disconnect, the charger Nintendo charger on the dock, then put into the then put in the wall to charge the Nintendo switch. Does work but when I put into the dock put in the TV, the light doesn’t show up then what
Thank you. You saved my mental health. The toothbrush was a Godsent!
I died laughing at solution 6🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
LOL
Mine still does not work 😢
My switch connects to the TV for like 5 minutes well playing then disconnects
We tried a different dock and cleaned it out but it's still doing it how can I fix this
Power cycle the system by holding the button for 20 seconds until it turns off, then turn it back on. Done right youll see the Nintendo symbol on start, just fixed mine this way. Hopefully helps
Another problem is that the cable could be connected wrong. For example, mine came with the official HDMI cable, one plug says nintendo, and the other says HDMI. Make sure the end that says nintendo is connected to the doc and the other end that is connected to the TV is the one that says HDMI.
This fixes it for me. Wild how the two sides are apparently not interchangeable
That's wild! I never would have guessed that would matter. Mine is hooked up properly just out of OCD, but if I had it backwards I would have never thought of that.
Is there anything else that could be happening as mine is connecting to the screen but only displaying a black screen, but i don't wanna reset it
I’m having the same issue
@@dakotastyles5771 guess we in the same boat ma dud
Bro same
my switch still wont connect to my TV when everything is plugged in and correct. the thing is, my TV knows it's there. i have a roku tv, any help from comments?
my switch has never been able to connect to a screen since i purchased it when it came out and even with these tips it still isnt working😕😕 ty for the video tho❤
I'm going to try solution 10 because I know my dock, ac adapter, and my monitor are working fine when my alternate Switch works in the dock mode, but my primary Switch does not. Additionally, my primary Switch goes blank mode when I undock it, which I can fix with a hard reset. Wish me luck.
did it work? i dont think i know my email or password so i dont want to try if it doesnt.
Yo did it work, I’m thinking about doing it too
I unhook my switch and now I can get the picture back on my tv anyone knows what I should do
Could be that it’s not compatible with 4K TVs. Tried everything I can think of with my 4K TV “No signal”
Plugged it into my 1080p TV in my bedroom, instant picture.
The Switch is fully compatible with 4K TVs, so it has to be something else in your case.
Dude. Have I fixed it? Have the same issue
thank you🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I did not know that we needed the charger for the Nintendo until I watch this video
I tried your toothpaste method, slathered both sides with a butter knife, and it got the job done for me! Sadly I do have to reslather it every time I dock it, but anything's worth it to play Tears of the Kingdom!
Edit: Since people have been asking, make sure you use the Colgate Max White One Whitening Toothpaste. Crest 3D White Brilliance Whitening Vibrant Peppermint Toothpaste DOES NOT WORK.
My best friend’s switch wasn’t connecting to the TV but mine was (same dock and same TV) it seems to be a Switch problem, not a Dock
Mu switch isn't coming on at all and it's half charged
I am kind of having this issue, I bought my wife a second switch dock, and official one not 3rd party, but I got t 2nd hand on eBay. I plugged everything in and went to test the dock out to make sure it worked properly. It charges the switch but will not show picture on the tv. Go back to the previous dock, everything works fine. I’m pretty sure I was plugging things back in, in proper order. Power, hdmi, controller charge cord.
But for whatever reason it just plain would not display on the tv. Even tried hosing every nook and cranny with canned air. I will try again an see wha happens.
Ok. If you haven't already, do the things mentioned in the video. If nothing works, it could be bad electronic components inside the dock.
Having this exact same issue, good to know mine sn’t the only one with this issue!
I'm having this issue as well don't know what to do I really don't want to buy a new switch man
