Driving in Germany: Autobahn A44 from Aachen to Jüchen

In this video you can drive along on Autobahn A44 from Aachen to Jüchen just South of Mönchengladbach. I am not sure if the plans to continue the A44 to the Northeast of Mönchengladbach and fix the missing link are still alive...
For now the A44 just ends right after the intersection with the A46. The town Jüchen itself borders the A46 and also Tagebau Garzweiler, one of Europe's largest open pit coal mines. Both A44 and A61 had to be moved at times so the mine could be expanded. The three-lane segment right before the junction with A46 cuts straight through the mining area and carries both traffic from the A44 as well as the A61.

Usually I 'm impressed with German autobahns. But this one and it's first stretch looks like it's been neglected since it was built. Very sobering .... 🙄🤔 Although that final stretch A44 is obviously where they gave up maintaining the autobahn as the mines expanded.
