A nice quick repair. It is strange that a simple strait through connector like that could fail in a way that upsets the charger. You would think it would just work or not work?
Love your videos mate! I work for a small IT company and I'm trying to get into some light board level repair because nobody in my area does it. Your teaching is invaluable! May I ask what you're using to show the voltage/current use for devices? That looks like a super handy diagnostic tool.
Best way to fix any laptop is to go STRAIGHT to voltage injection. You need a big power supply, 20amps straight to the main vein (power rail). In fact just keep adding until you see some smoke. Once you see the magic smoke, that's where your problem is. No thermal camera needed. Only pros know about this secret.
This is interesting. I've got a dead MBP 2017 I think, which showed it was charging when not plugged in and then didn't charge when it was plugged in. Then the USB C ports stopped working on a windows hp laptop when I connected the same charger so I'm thinking a dodgy charger has done some damage and it may be worth looking at the MBP to see if anything replaceable like the ports could be an easy fix.
It seems that you have put the bad streak behind you (unfixed devices). Another way to say it: Luck smiles on us again! and fortune has been on our side and I celebrate it. All the best.
Honestly, those original USB-C Ports are probably fine after cleaning. The behavior you see at 8:23 from the old ports (some voltage < 1 V) is about the same you see from the new ports at 9:41. The ghost-voltage on the old ports might be higher, because they are still wet from cleaning.
Done watching, thank you very much for the informative repair video. I have learned significantly more troubleshooting & repair lessons in this tutorial video and to your other repair videos as well compared to my ENTIRE 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE due to the rotten & outdated standards of education here in the Philippines. I hope you will soon have a mini-series for Schematic & Boardview-free Voltage/Power Rail Tracing[12V/18-20V Main Voltage Rail, 5V, 3.3V, CPU/GPU Core Voltage Rail, DRAM Voltage Rail, IGPU Voltage Rail, System Agent/Northbridge Voltage Rail, PCH Voltage Rail, BIOS Voltage Rail, Battery Power Rail], Proper method of testing/checking of potentially faulty MOSFETs & ICs/Controller Chips, CPU/GPU/PCH Reballing and BIOS Bin File Editing.
Hi Graham, what brand is the silver electric screw driver you have used in previous videos and do you recommend it? I have been looking for a decent one.
I had an issue with my PC. It turned out that it was the USB charger cable for my torch (which has magnets to attach itself) had stuck itself to the steel case.
First time seeing a passive Macbook in a while. I forgot how pitiful the cooling was for those. You'd expect some active dissipation to the chassis with thermal pads or that putty Nvidia uses. Not just a hunk of metal pressed against it.
I've been using a small ice cube tray for my screws and bits. Really need a little tackle box type thing like you've got. Can also write on them with sharpie and then clean it off with iso later. Thats what I do anyways.
There's a rabbit hole of these phrases that use the entire alphabet in the fewest keystrokes possible - Quick Brown Fox isn't even efficient ;) But it's the most well-known and easiest to remember.

Thx for sharing, master. QQ for you, What should be the initial output voltage of a magsafe 2 45W adapter? thx in advance.
Why Why !
Apple is insulting !
Shit !

Thank you for teaching
I am an Interweb! Yay!
thats one tiny motherboard in that laptop
Well it's an M1 chip so it's pretty much a glorified iPhone SOC, not being a bad thing really. Mind you aren't the intel air boards pretty small too
Great detective work again.
Wera screwdriver! Nice choice! 🤘
Still waiting for him to get the Wera pentalobe as well - that one still seems to be wiha at best.
7:12 "surfactants", I believe. "Surficants" are the sort of thing my grandson would dream up. Another great vid - thank you.
that's the one ;)
I think that is the only part in M series MacBook's that is not serialized
I mix 92% ISO with Windex (the ammoniated kind) 50/50 mix.
It works really well for almost everything... and it stores well.

You can slide the IO board like that on MacBook air. Not on Pro
It’s amazing how the item you think has no way of breaking do so on occasions.

What is that nice charger with graph
Paul L Daniels' custom Type-C power meter, I was lucky enough to receive one of the prototypes
My mind is blown by “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” I’m going to be using that for now on lol.
