    Could you possibly make a video on thinking of ideas for videos and short films? I have plenty, but they're always big and out of my reach. If I try thinking smaller, though, I struggle; I just can't think of anything interesting that I could do with the limits I have. Its always amazed me how you make shorts like Working With Will, Slapboxer, The Boss, and all your other shorts- they're all so unique. I think a video like this would help me and many others who suffer similar problems. Love you man, love your videos, and thank you for the help you've given me so far :)

    Central framing is a winner for me. Like how we see on her eyes as the dart side to side in contemplation.

    Huge fan of short sided shots. The handheld shot over the notebook was very nice as well. Felt a little more with that shot than any of the others -- a nice raw shot for a nice raw moment.

    I liked the look of version 1 and version 5 because it doesn't feel so lonely because you see in those shots the character's face, body, book and couch without being overwhelmed. It is a warm and comforting feeling while still protraying the feeling of her being alone in her thoughts.

    Darious I started watching you January of last year because I wanted to make ads for my business. Now the business is no more but I found a passion I never knew I had. I bought the Panasonic Lumix G7, box lights and some wireless microphones. Always ready and willing to learn more from you. I even did a interview with a Black Panther doll. Keep it coming and thank you.

    Love your channel, man - you always give such great info and you move it along really well. My personal favorite of the 4 is short sighting, just because of the angst, the discomfort, and the tough road ahead that it conveys. Like you said, it can only be used sparingly, but it's usually really effective when done well. Great stuff, dude!

    Classic, center, shortsighting. Probably in this order. But I wouldn't do 2 closeups. And obviously depending on the story. Classic seems the less relevant, it could be done just to make the shot a bit more interesting. The eye-only center feels the most powerful. If it's a pretty emotional moment, I'd use that. Short sight is the most unique one, but it's the hardest to use well. Love Mr Robot because how well they limit space to create uncomfortable situations. But I'm a total noob didn't shoot anything (yet 🙂). Great video (as always)!

    A film I would highly recommend for ideas on composition and framing would be Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Aside from the main characters being film lovers - which is immediately resonant for people here - they had a fairly small window to make the film (18 days I think) and to keep things fresh they shot almost every scene in a different way. Nearly every example you could think of gets used in some way in the film. Some scenes are shot entirely in one take, others in a more conventional sense but from angles you'd never think of. Its a truly inspiring film for filmmakers and simply a great film. I couldn't recommend it enough.

  • @FabianEllis
    @FabianEllis 4 роки тому

    Interesting I would have done all of this scene from the central shot closeup where you can only see her eyes and the paper because from what I could guess what she is writing about is important so having it right in front of the camera signifies it's importance and only having her eyes as the other thing in the frame show how she is focused on it. I also think it just looks cooler than the other closeups.

    not to be basic or simple-minded or anything but I really preferred version 4 of the close-up, the handheld aspect made it feel really personal and fit the tone of the scene; I don't think the other close-ups worked as well and I don't think that letting the wide play out was what the scene needed, although Darious did make me chuckle ever so slightly with the surprise

    Great video. Really thinking about this now.
    Strangely, I think my favourite was the second shot. The second and third both felt almost like I was a character in the scene as they were so close to the opening shot, and in profile. But the third felt like she was being intimidated in some way, because she looked trapped by the edge of frame. The second showed body language and someone who was less intimidated and more secretive and withdrawn. Felt a lot more character defining and less plot defining to me, which in a short experiment, or an opening is a lot better for capturing an audiences attention.
    In summary, when I said thinking I meant bleathering.

    We're you using an animprphoc lense? The long shot has those typical blue lense flares across the screen. I know this is a stylistic choice but don't like how this is slowly becoming more common. Having constant lighting blasting across shots and talents faces is incredibly distracting. Fantastic video though. Really like your classic composition.
