So was The Last Boy Scout. Senator Baynard and his son were amongst the main villains of the piece, there was a boat chase and a final gun battle between Hallenbeck and Milo.
This guy's been around years before Chris Nolan. He's a veteran action flick screenwriter from the 90s. SBlack's the kind of guy who focuses on the cinematic experience and presentation of his film, something Nolan often lacks in the action genre. So try not to compare. They both have very different styles. :)
Whether it's an action movie, a comedy movie or a horror movie - story and character come before set pieces, laughs and scares. The action set pieces, humour and frights should be directly related of the character/s journey through the story and their motivation to achieve their goal.
@Sodacake I've seen it. It's not an action movie, but sthin' like criminal comedy, and it's really good I must admit. It doesn't change the thing that films full of climax moments can be good. I enjoyed "Armageddon", "Bad Boys", "Black Hawk Down" or "Deja Vu". Movies full of action can be really good. It's all a matter of skill. Btw "Long Kiss Goodnight" is also kind of "climax movie" @ZenCatcher No I'm not. but I'd be glad to get some money from him. So Jerry if you read it pls send me money.
Why doesn't he write scripts anymore? I wanna see movie written or directed by Shane Black, although I disagree with 90% of stuff he said in this film.
Hey Shane, what was that about "punchline, punchline, punchline" ? I just saw iron man 3 and it was all PUNCHLINEPUNCHLINEPUNCHLINEPUNCHLINEPUNCHLINE. You sir are a hypocrite and Iron Man 3 was a terrible film.
First, he’s not just talking about humor. He means “payoff” when he’s saying PUNCHLINE. You’ve gotta have setup for the payoff. Second, did you miss all the parts of quiet introspection? I’ll dumb it down for you- the “boringest” parts, where people are just talking or quietly looking at things. There’s plenty of setups and payoffs in that movie.

This guy speaks the gospel. So true.
concur. always loved Shane Black, the quintessential "action" writer of the late 80's early 90's

@thunderpeel2001
Hollywood always fucks your shit up. Oliver Stone said if you want control over your writing, do either stage plays or novels.
@MAfanatic Long Kiss Goodnight was changed massively after it was bought.

How could you possibly disagree with “90%” of what he says in this video? What he says is accurate
