Love MUS. We've used it all the way through. Graduated one using it. Glad you are posting about it. Mastery approach has been great for us.
Love that! My mom used it 6th grade and up with my younger 3 siblings growing up which is how I became familiar with it and liked "helping" them so that was what I wanted to go with!
For someone just starting out that is so encouraging. There are so many programs out there and it seems more spiral than mastery. Does your graduated child feel he/she is confident in math?
I've heard great things about this program. Great explanation.
Thank you! ❤️
We’ve been using the old TGTB and have been wondering about MUS, thanks for the video! New sub!
Thank you for subscribing! 💗💗 I'm glad the video was helpful to see more about MUS!
We’ve used the old TGTB Math until this year as well and now using their revised version and neither of my twins or myself am a fan so looking into Math U See. They really enjoyed the manipulative aspect of the old TGTB math and now it’s just a whole lot of worksheets and the lessons seem so long and boring.
@@homeschoollifemom I hope this was helpful! We really like it's approach
How he teaches regrouping in multiplication isy favorite.
Yes! That's so interesting you mentioned that! I ended up teaching the "saxon" way of regrouping for double digit multiplication, I understand what he was trying to do but it confused my 3rd grader. Maybe my next daughter will prefer it but I find it interesting that you thought that as well!
I would love to see a video from you comparing Saxon Math vs Math U See. Thanks!
Great suggestion! I don't have any handy copies of the current Saxon but my Mom used Saxon with her oldest children (she had 7 kids) and then switched to Math-U-See midway with the younger four children. (this was of course 15 years ago, I don't know if Saxon has changed their approach) but I found it to be "redundant" and lesson problem heavy (30 problems every lesson in Saxon and often you repeated more than necessary! and I was a lover of math). Some of my siblings who struggled in math couldn't handle Saxon at all but Math-U-See was perfect! The way Steve Demme (MUS) explains the "set-up" and "why" behind math + the early groundwork with manipulatives helps the visual/hands-on learner but also works well for those naturally disposed to be good at math. :) I hope that helps! Just my opinion on the matter ♥
@@hannahgravelle thank you!
That was my exact question, so thank you for asking! I appreciate you sharing your experience, very helpful.
@@livmuller7109 you're so welcome!
Great video! I recently ordered MUS and am so hopeful it will be a good fit for my son :)
Would love to hear feedback later! I hope it works well for him!
@@hannahgravelle Thank you 😊
@@SDaultonHow is MUS going? I'm considering switching to it for my 2nd grader.
Your makeup looks really nice!
Oh thank you! So kind ❤️❤️ would love to show a basic mom face on here eventually!
Hello do you just make copy of the pages so the child doesn't write on the book so you are able to use the books for the next child ?
The workbook set is pretty inexpensive so I do get them their own new copy! $48 on their website. At this time I don't see a pdf version :) it's over 400 pages so copying it would be tough ☺️
Are you supposed to complete a-g each day? Or do you do that over a week? Or for a set amount of time?
Great question! I do it until mastery! So sometimes they need all 3 lessons (a,b,c) sometimes only 2 if it's easy! And systematic reviews (d,e,f) same thing! We always do g :) so sometimes they will only do a,b,d,e if they have mastered it!
Hii...I have a child in public school and want to supplement math for 8th grade. Would you recommend BJU math 8??
I haven't used Bob Jones University for math! :) so I don't think I could speak on it for you 🤗
@hannahgravelle Thanks for the update. For math U see, which ones would you recommend for a 4th grader, and 8th grader?
@@dmnick123ify their math placement test is very helpful! mathusee.com/digital-tools/placement-tool/ since their books are broke into concept instead of a sprinkle of everything at each grade. Maybe Delta (Division focus) and pre-algebra :)
Is it possible to use just the instruction manual to teach from and not use the video?
Yes, absolutely! The textbook is easy to follow, with clear instructions and examples! I found it really helpful in older grades when I helped teach my brothers!
Are you still using MUS?
@@lindsaypotter3694 yesss!! Our favorite! My oldest is in Epsilon now and my 2nd is in Gamma and my 3rd child will start Primer this fall.
So this might be really simple to teach and really well designed, but if it’s "boring" I can’t see my kids loving this curriculum. A main reason why I’m homeschooling is to foster a love of learning. And I can’t see my children choosing this over fun puzzles, math games and Numberblocks.
I understand that we actually have quite a few math games that we just enjoy playing. Math bingo, war, wrap ups and more :) logic books, etc. Those are fun to play and work through!
Some things just need to get done though. I want my kids to love learning, of course. But that doesn’t mean everything they will have to do is going to be amazingly exciting! Fluffy stuff in math is sometimes just a distraction.
@@truthnotlies I agree with you.
