This was a great video. We are also using TGTB after Math-U-See, Beast Academy, and Math Mammoth. We switched mid-year in January, and my kids love TGTB. The games are their favorite!
Hey girl! We also have had a long math journey with our homeschool. I’ve changed our math curriculum almost every year. We’ve so far settled on the good and the beautiful and most likely will stick with it till we can’t anymore. Thanks for sharing all this great information!😃
I'm really glad to see how the homeschool community is growing and adapting to this articulating environment. The frontrunners of curriculum authors are paying attention and upgrading all the time! We're gaining ground!
I literally think we’ve went through about every math out there as well. Singapore math, Abeka, Masterbooks, Math with Confidence, Beast Academy, Horizons, Math Mammoth, Charlotte Mason Math, there was also one online I can’t remember. We finally settled on TGTB, both my son and I love it!
Thanks for sharing! I switched to The Good and the Beautiful math in May after using an online curriculum and it’s working well so far with my 9 and 10 yo.
My eldest used Horizons from 2nd to 4th and we loved it. Then I moved him to TGTB for math 5 and 6. Just now that the amount of problems increases and the videos get a bit longer. Wasn’t a problem for us because with both curricula I rarely have him do all the problems. He is advanced like your son. He’ll be in 6th grade next year and moving into Pre-algebra. The current plan is Shormann but I haven’t settled on it 💯. My girls grades 3 and kinder both do horizons and LOVE IT. my kinder does all the problems because there aren’t many but I don’t have my 3rd grader do all of them after she has mastered the skill and then it is just review for her. Great video and thanks for sharing!!!! ❤
I actually just looked into shormann math, but I decided we're gonna stick with bju for now. Next year he'll be doing fundamentals of math which is right before pre- algebra. His math is getting harder i hope i can keep up haha. Thanks again for watching 😊
@@raisingthreewildlings BJU is on my list to check and see if they have a pre algebra option. I also want to look into horizons option as well. There are sooo many options out there it can be overwhelming at times! You are doing a great job!
My son is advanced in math too. I agree with you about Abeka. I had my son doing 3rd grade math though he's in second. He did well until we hit the middle of the book. Lots of frustrations and tears. I didn't like the teacher's manual. Like you said, it didn't explain how to do the math. It only showed the answers. So we switched to Teaching Textbooks. It's okay. We are going to try The Good and Beautiful math. We will see how it goes.
Abeka's teacher guides were ugh. I didn't like them at all. My girls love the good and the beautiful math. Good luck on your math journey. Hope y'all like the good and the beautiful!
@@raisingthreewildlings well...I decided I wanted them to have something less challenging/a review after the struggle with TGTB. So we did Apologia Level 5...they whipped through it often doing 2 lessons. I wasn't a huge fan of that either and now here we are in February needing to find another Math curriculum, ugh! I might get Masterbooks Level 6 because that is also easier( we did that way back) and then do Dennison next year. They're not math minded kids.
@christinem9935 I totally understand the struggle. Math isn't my favorite to teach. My son loves math and my girls don't. Tgatb has worked so far. 🤞 We've used masterbooks and apologia before but not for math. Have heard a little about Denison math. I hope y'all find a math curriculum that works for you guys. If your girls don't love math there's a website for math games that they might like. It's free! And just a fun way to get them to enjoy math a little bit more. Coolmath4kids.com maybe they'll like playing the games.
So interesting how kids vary! I loved TGTB but my oldest hated math and not even the pretty pictures could entice her. I switched both girls to online Beast Academy and thats going well! But I am starting to miss the spiral way of teaching math versus mastery. They are definitely progressing through and I love the engaging way they teach math concept!! Teaching Textbooks like their lessons online are very dry so I love the fun and helpful way BA teaches. I am not 100% what to do for next year but Im thankful we can always pivot if I think its best.
I love spiral learning. At first I wasn't a fan of it, but the kids do best with it. I've never heard of beast academy, glad that's working for you guys! I always stick with what works, when it stops working that's when we switch it up.
My mom is struggling with my brother with abeka’s math but she needs the service they do with grading his work and keeping record since she doesn’t have the time to do it on her own, so BJU Press have something like that like “accredited” he’s in 6th grade
Abeka can be such a struggle 😫 Bju press has an online homeschool hub which is super easy to navigate and she enters the grades online. They don't do that for you though. They do offer online courses for their math, but I don't know how that all works because I've only ever done teacher led. Teaching textbooks sounds like a much better fit for your brother. That's all online and it has its own grading system built in I think. I would check that out.
We have tried a lot of different math curriculums as well. We settled on Math With Confidence.

Great video! We love goodandbeautiful, I was wondering if bju press is good 👍
I love bju press! We use their English and Bible curriculum. Love it! It's so well put together!
@raisingthreewildlings I'm planning on getting video based bju press for my very independent almost 8 years old 😃
@elenahajda9291 you'll love it! I've heard really good things about the online portion of the curriculum.
@raisingthreewildlings we did abeka Academy videos and it takes so long, Math lesson for grade 2 an hour long 😬
@@elenahajda9291 abeka takes forever. I'm so glad we made the switch.

Tgatb math is the best right?! Thanks for watching 🩷
