- What is Monasticism? Who is considered the founder of Monasticism? What are the origins of Monasticism? This video sheds light on the origins of monasticism in Egypt and other parts of the world. Saint Anthony the Great is the father of all monks in the world. He is the one who formally established monasticism in Egypt. Afterward, many of his led monastic communities in Egypt and outside of Egypt.

During waves of persecution many of those who knew their weakness before the
sword escaped to deserts where they dedicated their lives to God. When
persecution ended, the martyric witness was superseded by the offering of oneself
through monastic vocation.

As for monasticism, it was invented by them; We(God) did not ordain it for them, but (they adopted it) to seek Allah’s(God) pleasure, then could not observe it as was due. So We gave the believers from among them their reward. And many of them are sinners.
