    Brings back a lot happy memories. I’m a life member of the lodge of Glasgow saint mungo no 27 i attained the office junior warden But I had to move job and home and unfortunately lost touch with my lodge. I still get invites to attend other lodges. A few year ago I visited my brother in laws lodge in Perth Australia. I had the honour of performing the signs and secrets of the 2nd degree

    I am no mason, and have no intention of becoming one. Having said that, your videos are just so interesting, educational, professional, and enjoyable, that I've subscribed and have loved learning what you're teaching. Thanks for all your effort and for the gentle vibe you've created.

    Thank you in gratitude for this edition . This has answered a problem I have been faced with regards the former use of a building next to a friend's new business. I now know how to approach the problem with care. It is also interesting tp hear the titles given and reasoning behind, this has been a question I have had since early childhood that no one could-or would - explain to me.
    I am indebted to you, thank you. May blessings flow to you over many times.

    We decided in 1993 that the Worshipful Master from last year would be the Tyler the year after, as who better to instruct the candidates than the last Master of the lodge?

    It was interesting hearing about the officer structure of lodges under the UGLE. In many cases, American lodges differ from the aforementioned in both offices and in the design of jewels. I am currently serving as the Marshal of my lodge, which we use as a potential hotseat for election to the South, along with the Senior Deacon. My lodge does not follow a progressive line, so there is no guarantee that one officer in any given year will advance or even remain an officer the next year. I was first appointed as Senior Steward, and jumped to Marshal the following year. Next year I anticipate either being moved to Senior Deacon or elected to the South, but there is no guarantee, and I could just as well be made Tyler or Junior Steward or Junior Deacon. In common with many other American lodges, we have no Inner Guard (those duties fall to the Junior Deacon), nor do we have an Almoner (whose duties fall to the Chaplain). We also have no Organist, but that's more a factor of having no instrument to play and no brother who can play.

    • @FromtheQuarries
      @FromtheQuarries  Місяць тому

      The differences ae indeed fascinating. I'm not familiar with the Marshal role - where do you think this fits in the UGLE structure? I have now been Senior Deacon in my lodge for a number of years. After a couple of spells in the Chair, I find it very comfortable there, and I get to take FCs and MMs through their perambulations, which I find to be a great privilege.

    • @Aldrnari
      @Aldrnari Місяць тому

      @@FromtheQuarries I think the Marshal role in my lodge most closely aligns with the Master of Ceremonies, but also diverges quite a bit. And our lodge also differs from many American lodges in this regard. My role is to form and lead processions for funerals, Grand Lodge visitations, etc., and to ensure the quality of ritual. I'm also charged with knowing all of the other non-principle officer parts so that I can fill in wherever needed if an officer is absent (still working on memorizing all of the Senior Deacon lines currently). I'm also in charge of proclamations and communications, including managing our website and social media accounts, and making certain regular lodge email announcements under the direction of the Secretary. And as I indicated, successful fulfillment of this role is considered to make me a candidate for election into the South (although I'd prefer to sit as Senior Deacon first, certainly one of the most coveted and beloved seats in all of Masonry).

    • @FromtheQuarries
      @FromtheQuarries  Місяць тому +1

      Sound like our Director of Ceremonies role (with a few extras). Our DC is usually taken by a senior brother with a penchant for ritual and perambulation. A lot of DCs use the role as prep for applying for Grand office. Not really my thing, so I've never volunteered 😊

      Hi Ben. I've been steering away from the OTO as I don't want the flack from misinformed commentators on YT. I think it'll just open up a can of worms that I don't want to deal with ATM. I have some knowledge of Martinism, but certainly not as a practitioner. Will see what I can dig up.

    Does a master mason have to become an officer when asked to do so? What if he thinks he is not capable of performing the role?

    • @diogeneslantern18
      @diogeneslantern18 Рік тому +8

      No they don't. But none of the roles are particularly difficult except perhaps of the WM, Secretary and Treasurer; albeit your secretary and treasurer are usually incumbents and already have years of practical business experience.
      Every Mason should go through the officer line in my view. It rounds out the experience of Blue Lodge

      I'm afraid that Scottish Rite rituals are very closely restricted (in Australia at least) and are not available for purchase to my knowledge.
      Maybe someone else who reads this can help?

    • @diogeneslantern18
      @diogeneslantern18 Рік тому

      If you are an EA you generally wouldn't be allowed in a 1) Scottish Rite meeting 2) you won't (or shouldn't) be allowed to attend meetings of other constitutions unless accompanied by a MM of your lodge due to the fact that there is and overlap between the rituals of the 3 degrees in different jurisdictions.

  • @diogeneslantern18

    Very informative. I enjoy your Masonic channel as being a cut above the rest.
    I understand that this is a lecture from another source, and with that I disagree insofar as the Tyler is the most junior officer's role. In hierarchy, perhaps, but it is incumbent on lodges to place their PMs alone as Tylers. A Mason's first officer role should be IG/Steward etc, and move up all the way to the East. A newly raised Mason has no business being on the outside of a lodge room, not for a few years at least.

      I agree, the Tyler must be the rank of past master this way he can try and prove any person enter the lodge if they can not be vouched for by another member of the lodge.

    • @teecee1567
      @teecee1567 10 місяців тому

      I agree. My lodge has a policy, that where appropriate, the Tyler of a Lodge, is always a Brother who has just completed his year as IPM. Naturally, some Brethren may physically be unable to do the job, in which case, a suitable replacement is found.

    Would I be correct in saying that the collar of an officer...like JD or SW...should NOT have a silver braid down the middle of it? I've seen collars with silver braid down it...what does that denote?

    • @FromtheQuarries

      Hmmm. I'm UGLQ, which uses UGLE regalia. I know I've seen the silver braid both in photos and in person, but I'm not sure what it represents. Maybe someone else in the commentariat has an idea??

      @@FromtheQuarries I THINK... that the officers of a Lodge, from Steward right up to SW wear a blight blue collar with no braid... cos they are acting in that position...however, PAST XXXX wears the silver braid? The IPM and Past Masters wear a collar with silver braid? Maybe someone will confirm, or put me right on that.

    No. wrong.
    If Solomon is the worshipful master then education did not begin in the east, it began in Ancient Egypt, the heart or center of the earth. That is where you see the light or the speed of Light. So, everything begins in the heart.
    You need to upgrade your masonry skills. It begins in Ancient Egypt, Solomon, Joseph and Judaism came late --- after.
    It the beginning there was Thoth.
    Lodge No. 1 Ancient Egypt.
    It ends with Cleopatra the Seventh.
    There are 8 Cleopatra.
    The Pyramid of Giza has 8 sides.
    8 = infinity.
    The ideal proportions of man are 8 heads in Length. To draw the human face it begins with 2 circles -- No. 8
    Cleopatra never called Herself "pharoah". She was a queen.
