An icon of 20th and 21st century music, the voice of the civil rights movement, and the undisputed Queen of Soul-there is only one Aretha Franklin. In her incredible six-decade career, Aretha evolved from teenage gospel star to reigning pop and R&B diva, recording classics like “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Chain Of Fools”, “Think” (lyrics by Aretha Franklin), definitive versions of the songs “Respect” and “I Say a Little Prayer”, and global hits like “Freeway Of Love,” “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”, and “A Rose Is Still A Rose.”
Altogether, 112 of her singles reached the charts, with 20 No. 1 R&B singles, the most ever by a female artist. She won 18 Grammy Awards (including the first eight trophies for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance) and, out of recognition for her for indelible contribution to American music and culture, received both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Pulitzer Prize.
I'm a white guy born in the 50's.
I have very eclectic taste in music.
Love to listen to Aretha sing.
She sang like you talk, when you
are being honest, and saying what
is deep inside { the real you } .
Genuine, sincere, and above all soulful.
Thank You Ms. Franklin.
You were, still are, and will always be, pleasing to the ears.
‼️‼️‼️
When you are raised in church, the gospel comes through in song
Also, White man born in the 50’s……AGREE 110%!!
And the session band behind here was a bunch of young white guys from Alabama. The keyboard player came up with the intro and output together.
Put it together*
Can't NOBODY sing this song like Aretha. This song was about her husband at the time. I feel every emotion in her voice.
@yourmanwatson You are correct about the songwriter and he wrote a very touching song. According to several books that I have on Miss Franklin, the song was inspired by her toxic marriage. She loved Ted White, but wasn't willing to let him go despite pleas from family and friends. Mr. Shannon and Miss Franklin (and others) created a classic.
@yourmanwatson Thank you as well. You know you are very wise with music. I'm always open to learning. Many blessings to you in the New Year.
please go listen to the way cynthia erivo sings it
@@tayler7366 I have listened to the lovely Cynthia Erivo singing this song. She is extremely gifted. I enjoyed " Genius ", the FX series on Aretha.
Jhud tried but can't sing the way the queen sang it.Woow with that sexy voice
This hit way different when you actually in this situation!
Chiiile. . .you ain't neva lied smh
FS! Lord have mercy. Those young passionate days of life made us make some wildly bad decisions. Tryna get my dtr to NOT do this!🙏💪
Tell me about it...
@ADDAuntDawnDisorder likewise. And my girls are 26 & 24.
Hot damm looks like this one hit a nerve
Don't know anyone, ANYONE who could sing this song like her.
There will never be another Ms Aretha Franklin. We are honored to have lived during the time she was on this earth.
No she is her own womAn born with a voice you either got it or u dont she does
One of a kind never another Aretha we were blessed to have her RIP
No it wont.💕 Most of her songs were sung with hurt and pain from her first abusive marriage to producer Ted White. She loved him and didn't want to leave him.
❤
Aretha was just one of a rare kind. Lyrics, and the voice, and the backup music - just always so unique
Happy birthday to the queen of heart and soul💕🎉
This song is a master class for new singers thinking they got it! This is how it's done! The late, great, Queen of Soul. Ms. Aretha Franklin!
Aretha was the best thing we've ever had.
Put this song on and sing my heart ❤️ out
I never loved a singer the way I loved Aretha !
No one better. Always the greatest.
No one better.
The piano is legendary in this song
Quite a story behind that- I think I will share it. :-)
It’s the horns!
Spooner Oldham conjured the keyboard figure which rescued the session and introduced Aretha to herself. Jimmy Johnson and Roger Hawkins don't look like funkmeisters, but the soul is undeniable.
What is there to say that hasn't already been said? Simply the best.
i remember the exact,,,exact moment she passed,,, i was painting the VFW here in Killeen tx,, standing ontop of a high ladder,,, dancing to her music, when they announced on the radio that she passed,,, i about fell off and was totally crushed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
@@beckymartin12I love your tender heart, darling!
The ONLY singer to make my eyes well up.
Truly the Queen of Soul❤️❤️❤️
Hello Brenda, how are you doing? My name is randy I'm a music lover I like all kind of country music and oldies
I miss music like that!! That hit you in your soul!! 😩
This is a masterpiece
I think this song may be one of the best for demonstrating her talent. You can feel it.
ua-cam.com/video/RbA931UxX68/v-deo.html
Not only one of the best songs of ALL TIME, the musical intro is one if the best of ALL TIME as well!
ua-cam.com/video/RbA931UxX68/v-deo.html
I love that intro it just draws you right in there are so many things about this record that make it a masterpiece and the album that it's from is in my opinion Arethas best album fifty some odd yrs later it still knocks me out every track
This was recorded in the state in which I live. Alabama.
@@jamellfoster6029 Say That!
For the opening with the electric piano, I read the guy was just playing around warming up and came up with that famous part.
This is one of her best, she just THROWS her voice around on this track.
Her voice always sends a chill down my throat! And, her granddaughter inherited a strong voice. ❤
That piana really does fit right in with this song. I love it. 2024. ❤
Aretha on the piano!
It doesn't get more bluesy and from the soul than this one. She has it mastered. Reached #9 in April, 1967. (#1 on R & B as mentioned above)
A voice touched by God rest in peace 🙏
Had a good woman like that.... I miss her..♥️♥️♥️
My favorite song of Aretha Franklin "you make me feel like a natural woman" we definitely need to hear this song a few times during the next few months. With all that's going on in this country.
I ain't never listened to "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" until now. This was a good song! 👍
The M.A That's an understatement!
Listen to this ... She speaks for me.
I have loved this one man for more than half my life.
Married divorced and we still come back into each other's lives.
He seems to be determined to make sure I don't forget him. And I don't seem to have the strength to get over him
I've always loved this song and nobody has ever sang it like Franklin. Never will either.💯
Where you Been....?
This song finds you when you are ready for it. That's how it works.
Obviously Aretha was incredible, but Spooner Oldham's keyboards are a huge part of this classic
Aretha is playing the main keyboards here.
#ARETHAFRANKLIN #INEVERLOVEDAMANTHEWAYILOVEYOU She's up in heaven teaching the angels the lyrics to her songs. The Queen of Soul is still getting down. She was one of a kind 😀👍👍👍🎸🎹🥁🎷🎺🎸💛🧡💚💙❤️💖💜
I remember the first time I heard this. Jukebox at a bar with a view of Narragansett Bay. Early summer of 1967. Hadn't heard of "Aretha." Interesting name, I thought. Curious, I played this song. Listened to what was far above and beyond expectation. Sensitive, deeply personal, sung from the heart without the vocal gymnastics employed by so many since. Consummate soul.
This is Aretha at her best... her early COLUMBIA recordings are SO SO.
Later ARISTA best forgotten..Her legacy is a handful of truely great 60s albums for ATLANTIC
She wasn't given the right material early in her career, but she did perform some of it beautifully.
She said you know good !!!!❤😂
The story of how this hit song came about is one of those great seldom untold stories of old. Aretha had been around for a while and put out a string of unsuccessful records. Her style on those records was much different than the queen of soul that she became. But now Aretha was in the famous Muscle Shoals recording studio for the first time and by her side were the swampers. However nothing was happening and there was an uneasy silence in the recording studio as nobody seemed to have a good idea for a song. Then out of nowhere the keyboard player Spooner Oldham started playing that iconic keyboard part, somebody yelled THATS IT ! And within an hour or 2 they recorded the song, Aretha had a new soulful style and she was on her way to being a huge star. Now at almost the same time Spooner was also playing with Neil Young and once again he helped shape a whole different style and generation of music. What a guy!!
AAhhh!! Thank you for sharing! I knew she had gone to Muscle Shoals and EVERythang came together for her, but this inside info is the "stuff" of music legend I live for. Peace!
@@melaniejean85
I just bought and watched the documentary movie 'Muscle Shoals' where this episode is shown. Impressive!
@@FridsMEyer So glad more people out there are learning about Muscle Shoals & the array of musicians that made such great music! If you are so inclined, there is a doc on Motown & The Funk Brothers, (sorry, I can't recall the name!), but if you enjoy the back stories, I hope you watch that one, too! Peace!
#ARETHAFRANKLIN #INEVERLOVEDAMANTHEWAYILOVEYOU That horn section is smoking. The herself on the keys. This is a classic from the Queen herself 😀👍👍👍🎸🎹🥁🎷🎺🎸💛🧡💙💚❤️💖💜
So much going on here! The beginnings of many things-her career took off with this song, the “Muscle Shoals” sound was in full swing and the birth of southern rock with Duane Allman’s unique style that became the Allman Bros!! Good times!!
She was truly the greatest vocalist
#ARETHAFRANKLIN #INEVERLOVEDAMANTHEWAYILOVEYOU Aretha Franklin, she be slamming on those keys 😀👍👍👍🎸🎺🎷🥁🎹🎸💜💖❤️💚💙🧡💛

Blesssed and talented Aretha Franklin
Love Aretha! This tune strikes me as the woman's version of a man's version "Use Me Up" by Bill Withers when a lover is treating you wrong yet you can't seem to break free.
Wow great Aretha! I love you!! ❤ Genius! Greetings from Italy 👍😉🇮🇹
He is a heartbreaker; but I understand what she's talking about. I have never loved a man.... The way that I love you. WCL.

I loved the scene in Muscle Shoals where they talk about how this song came about. Those Swampers are GREEZY!
An American classic
Great song and words
Mmmm this is just glorious. Sometimes god reaches down and puts greatness into people and this is evidence.
I was born in the 80s and I would jump the broom with this women off of this alone 😍😍😍😍😔😔😔😔😔 rip but hold my seat with your purse Aretha
Long love the Swampers from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. That magic happened there, ask anybody.
True words
Not the song I was looking for but I’m glad I found this anyway
A very very nice song❤❤
I just heard this for the first time that I can remember anyway. So beautiful!
I just got finished watching the movie
Me too knew her other songs
You're a no good heartbreaker
You're a liar and you're a cheat
And I don't know why
I let you do these things to me
My friends keep telling me
That you ain't no good
But oh, they don't know
That I'd leave you if I could
I guess I'm uptight
And I'm stuck like glue
'Cause I ain't never
I ain't never, I ain't never, no, no (loved a man)
(The way that I, I love you)
Some time ago, I thought
You had run out of fools
But I was so wrong
You got one that you'll never lose
The way you treat me is a shame
How could ya hurt me so bad
Baby, you know that I'm the best thing
That you ever had
Kiss me once again
Don'cha never, never say that we we're through
'Cause I ain't never
Never, never, no, no (loved a man)
(The way that I, I love you)
I can't sleep at night
And I can't eat a bite
I guess I'll never be free
Since you got, your hooks, in me
Whoa, oh, oh
Yeah! Yeah!
I ain't never loved a man
I ain't never loved a man, baby
Ain't never had a man hurt me so bad
No
Well, this is what I'm gonna do about it
I tell you, I'm gonna...
Whoa-oh, no baby
I tell you, I'm gonna...
Whoa-oh, oh

Masterpiece.
When someone young asks me about love, how one should love, what it means, what tenderness, affection, respect and serenity of spirit are... I always give them this song as an example. Good things never die, thanks you!💖❤❤
