Tips from a cross country/track runner! 1. The first-month is going to be hard but getting past that, you'll be in running shape and it'll be easier 2. Take it slowly, and slowly build up your running (helps prevent injuries) 3. Make sure you're eating enough food and eating properly(helps prevent injuries) 4. Do leg strength and core strength workouts, to help prevent injuries from the pounding- Just look up runners plyometrics and core workouts 5. Running with a group, team, or with friends makes it so much better, easier, more motivating, and a lot more fun(Be careful right now with corona with this one) 6. Set goals to stay motivated, but don't make them giant goals, make them smaller 7. Depending on your goals, vary your workouts. Like, don't run just 2 miles every single day at the same pace. Mix in easy runs, longer runs, medium runs, maybe track workouts, depending on goals 8. Make sure to stretch, roll, and ice after runs, again look up running stretches/how to roll, etc. 9. As Taylor said, Proper running shoes are crucial! (again injury prevention) 10. Pain that lasts a while or is very painful-stop and get help, don't push through. There's going to be pain with running so again, if it lasts more than a few days or is extremely painful, stop! 10. Have fun and don't make it a chore!
I’m geeking out because I was not expecting to hear my name!😭 plus I was watching this while showering and got shampoo in my eyes because I was that surprised LOL 😂🤍 LOVE YOU TAYLOR! Also you killed those Straddle Ups GIRL👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I used to hate with all my forces cardio workout, mainly HIIT, but the more I practiced, the more I enjoyed doing this type of exercise! I believe that its because when I started, I couldnt go all the way, and, now that I can, I feel more capable of doing so, and learnt to like it! I believe this serves as a tip hahahaha. This video is really amazing, congrats!
The first mile is always a lie! Always find I feel grim until that point and I want to stop and then as soon as I’ve hit over a mile it’s like I don’t want to stop! So proud gal x
I do the "waiting to listen" with your podcast! The "rule" is that I can only listen to your podcast while walking, so at least one time a week I'll walk for an hour

Not going to lie I had a similar realization after I found out I was wearing the wrong shoes for running. Definitely go to a pro run shop to have your foot checked because if you are wearing a neutral run shoe when you have some pronation you won't have the same experience running (and could get injured because of it).
Completely agree! Also, yes running shoes are expensive but wearing them passed their prime can also cause injury. Make sure you aren’t running with shoes that have completely worn down treads. 😉♥️
OMG OMG OMG VIDEO SHOUT OUT!!! You killed the ab workout..it does take time to get the whole thing down! But you got this girl!! You are doing my workout suggestion so I guess I will try getting back into running (I ran cross country in middle school but have not successfully gotten back to running since)..but I think I need "I hate the treadmill" to drop on Spotify so I can run to it (before listening to the Twisty Pod of course)! lol
Loved all your tips! I'm trying to get back into running again and it was nice to hear your perspective and your ideas. Absolutely true about stretching and hope that everyone tries to at least do it before they run, if not after too. Have a good weekend Taylor!
I started running 9 months ago, on and off but stopped around October time as it got too cold (at least that was my excuse!). Really hope this video gives me the motivation I need to get back to running! Ps I love your videos! 💗✌️✨
I love running too! When I run halfway, I will try to increase the pace and see how long I can keep it. You are NOT a beginner! 12k is not a beginner lol and love your braids! I motivated myself to go running and walking by listening to your podcasts (best ever)! Enjoy your weekend! ily 😘
For ppl living in winter but want to run outside, wear as many layers as you can while running. I wear about 3-4 layers of tops (tshirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, coat/windbreaker), 2 layers of bottoms (leggings and sweatpants), a hat, mittens, and a mask, then I put the sweatshirt and coat hoods up. And remember, you will warm up as you run.
I haven’t been running consistently since high school, but me and my friend just started training for a half marathon! Kinda terrified😂 but excited!! I love your videos!
We went into out first lockdown for a year, gyms closed, only thing I can do is run. Yay I thought. Usually I’m training Muay Thai once a day and going to the gym 3 times a week. My abs are ridiculously strong. Sit ups are like walking, I could do them forever. But omg, I ran 3km (after 1 year of not running) twice, 3 days apart, and now my abs, front and back obliques wreck! I’m literally laid up and the massage places are closed as well as the gyms. I have never had this kind of pain with running before...
thank you so much for doing a running video! I feel like I requested this maybe a week or so ago and as a beginner runner this is SO helpful! So many great tips 😊love your videos and podcast (as always!)
I love the idea of running, but I have asthma and a rib deformity that literally is crushing my lungs. Although it is still possible, it is much more difficult to run even one mile. I will still try my best. Thanks for the tips!
I ran a marathon 4 years ago, and i’ve been running on and off since then. but lately i’ve been dreading running and i’ve gotten so out of shape haha. i can barely run a mile so i needed this video ❤️ my goal is to run another marathon this year 💪
Everyday I tell myself I will get into running. No more excuses! Today is the day i am going to try and go for a run :) Haven't tried running since MIDDLE SCHOOL so wish me luck !
I just came back from ankle surgery (and taking lots of time off) and let’s just say getting back in shape is kicking my butt... loved watching your vid & getting some new tips for my half marathon training!!
YESSSSS! That runners high is addicting🤩 When I started a runner friend told me to watch some form videos and be conscious of how your feet hit/lift off from the ground! Helped this 5’2” gal go LITERALLY further each stride!
For me I slow my pace dramatically (think like half what you think you should be doing) and get into a rhythm of breathing that's really consistent and timed. Take fewer, deeper breaths rather than lots of short breaths. But it is still always a struggle so I totally understand if that doesn't help. Just keep practicing and don't judge yourself.
Proud of you. I love running!! Fleet feet is amazing, they measure your feet and find the perfect shoe for you! You should change your shoes depending on how much you run every once in awhile. Make sure you change them when the get worn out or it can hurt your hips or knees.
I also used to hate running but now I do it every once in a while and I honestly feel really good when I do, my hearts gets pumping and I feel more “alive”🔥✨
I've started doing one minute plank every day because of you ( I can't do 2 yet) and I tell ya there kicking mine but. But I did mine today while watching you do your ab workout
hey taylor, just came across ur channel. i just wanted to say that you are so bright and inspiring !! i’m LOVING your channel and i hope you have an amazing day ❤️❤️
I'm so glad you're doing well with your running! Honestly I think running looks like so much fun, but when I do it (or try to do it) I hate it lol I found some other workouts I'm really into right now, but who knows, I might give it a go in the future! I think it's great you're enjoying your run outside, but I do miss the treadmill hit 😂
I really need new exercising shoes, the inside of the shoe, at the back, where your ankle leans against has holes in the fabric. I keep putting it off cause a good pair of shoes is like 100-150, oof. Trying to find the the courage to suck it up and buy them lol. Never heard of breathing technique for running, however I found yoga has really helped with my breathing during my workouts in general and I don't feel as burnt out anymore-still tired, but not pooped. You know?
I've been running for years not long distance but every day and I would say make a point of breathing in through your nose every now and then it helps.....
I used to hate running but back in 7th grade i joined cross country cus i was bored & my friends & sister were joining it & ive been in love ever since sadly i prob wont be back on a team but i still enjoy running when its warm out
I tried running before the pandemic started (got shoes and everything), then it happened and I ended up moving back home and not running. But I’m starting running again for the new year!
i started running after impulsively signing up for a half marathon + then a marathon (in the bahamas... so i went all out and spent that COIN) and now i’m obsessed ❤️ my first marathon was just a few months before the lockdown so i was so so very lucky and it’s my biggest achievement so far!!!
I think I may be broken 😂 I never get any of the feel good part of a run. My husband loves running and wants me to join him. But I don't get it. Totally ready for that "Love" of running to kick in. He tells me today "you're a runner now." And I am just so not. I am a person who is running but I just am. Wish us luck.
🥲🥲 wow it’s so good to hear that from a complete stranger and someone i have never spoke to before. thank you for suggesting such an incredible podcast
taylor: "i'm a beginner runner"
me: me too!!
taylor: "i've run a 12k"

Don't worry. You'll get there. Everyone is different. You may not be able to run 12km yet, but you will if that is a goal.
Tips from a cross country/track runner!

Also, hydration is super important! Make sure you drink enough water (1.5/2.5 litres) the day before
not me agreeing to run cross country with my friends just to spend time with them and then getting addicted to it whaaat
ok that is a glow up story if i’ve ever heard one
Girl I only did it to prepare for vb and ended up quitting volleyball and running is now my full time sport
i only did it for a friend. I suck at running but I fell in love with it😭
Wait why do we all have the same story lmfao I did it to hang out with my BFF too

Not going to lie I had a similar realization after I found out I was wearing the wrong shoes for running. Definitely go to a pro run shop to have your foot checked because if you are wearing a neutral run shoe when you have some pronation you won't have the same experience running (and could get injured because of it).
wearing the proper shoes is so dang important! no injuries here!!
