Wow that's an oddball excavator. Thanks for showing it. Maybe should contact letsdig or diesel creek, I could see them adding this to their collections when you're done with it
Drove a VC20 for 3years from new ,excellent machine dredging, pulling banks up ,loading dump trucks ,excellent bucket control control ,better than drag lines .driver comfort ,visibility good .
NEAT!!!! They are/were big in oil field fire fighting and levy work. Super loyal iron if ya gotta reach way out. Kinda wild that its scrap not a ranchers pond builder
That machine reminds me of a long reach excavator . I ran one at my job a new 2023 cat. It had the small wide bucket like that one . We used to to dredge the muck out of ponds.
That Excavator is DESIGNED to work Sidehills, mostly used in GRADING works. Its Long reach with the counter-weight makes grading ANY sidehills simple. As the saying goes, 'Find a use for the equipment you have on hand'. Gotta be a landscaper out there wanting this machine? In the condition it SEEMS to be in(minus that weld) it looks fair to good i personally would NOT scrap it!(Trade/Sell if i had a scrap yard, as its not the right equipment for a yard)
Exactly, not a landscaper machine at all, and also while they are used occasionally for grading most long reaches are used for dredging and pond work, basically replaced the dragline nowadays.
Those Sun-Drop trucks are cool as hell. Would be awesome to see a restoration of the semi and trailer; it would definitely get a lot of attention at shows and whatnot.
Letsdig18 , Diesel Creek or Scrappy Industries please try them, I am sure they might want it or know someone who does. I would hate to see something that unique scrapped. As always it will come down to $$$.
My family lived near the factory. The machine was designed to clear drainage ditches. I saw one working as a kid. The cable dragged the bucket up the ditch slope/bank, dumping on the other side of the machine. It sort of replaced drag lines which were also used for ditch clearing, being a bit faster and safer in operation.
Wow that’s a blast from the past, my father helped design that. Started life as the preistman vc15, then upgraded to the vc20, it had huge performance for its size back in the day, but never took off, was overly complex.
Nothing but a UA-cam commenter here, but it seems like that length could help add its valuable (obviously) put it for sale, say its worth scrap+15% in scrap so you are looking for at least that. And roll the dice for a few weeks. You already have a buyer, scrap.
Before you scrap it, pull the gauges, they look like old Stewart Warners, which are now desirable. After SW went out of business, someone bought the name and makes garbage overseas. Car and truck guys are always looking for the real old gauges.
My first thought was to have them reach out to Matt @ Diesel Creek he loves old Iron. Or Dirt, Grain and Steel is another guy that loves old excavators. Even Let's Dig18. Definitely so.eone would take this in just the youtube world.
Did you have to kick in a couple bucks for the pillow?? You probably should have felt it with your hand before you sat down. Someone could have soaked in in water to get a extra pound or so. You know another 8 cents give or take. Anyway I really enjoy your your longer videos as well. What am I saying I enjoy every one of your video's. I ain't seen a bad one yet 👍🇨🇦🔧
I'm guessing insurance won't let you, but given that the machine is on the verge of becoming scrap metal, why not use it to give some excavator driving lessons to anyone who might be interested?
Reach out to Matt @ Diesel Creek, Cris LetsDig18, Dirt, Grain and Steel, Dirt Perfert, Clint at C&C equipment, Dirt Perfect. The list goes on. Someone wants it for sure.
Alrighty time to learn about the priestman vc20 lets start with the vc that means variable counterweight next lets move to the year it was made its little brother the vc15 was made in 1982 and the vc20 made in 1985 in 1987 the company was working on the vc30 which only one prototype was made all three were powered by a perkins 6 cyl and all was made in the uk but some was sold in the us with some dealers being in Washington Alaska Texas and west Virginia which is where i assume this one came from since they were popular in the coal mines
Hi, thanks for the video. Priestmans made some interesting machinery. There is a steam crane made by I presume the same company in Sydney that was in use for 90 years. Priestman’s traveling steam Crain C1890 ua-cam.com/video/BsWy-avcV_w/v-deo.html
You impressed me.
You're one of the few I've seen that actually starts a diesel correctly.
I would expect this machine was used to dredge rivers and ponds, unique design, save it for a plant collector...
Wow that's an oddball excavator. Thanks for showing it. Maybe should contact letsdig or diesel creek, I could see them adding this to their collections when you're done with it
I could see Matt loving this thing.
I could totally see Matt buying that excavator
Tag him in it
@@davefittswell770 Well, go on then.... Tag him
Was thinking scrappy industry too

It's pretty much just like a dragline the draglines are Kool toys
Nice older machine!
I’ve seen some long-reach units used for irrigation ditch cleaning/digging. 👍

Looks like Priestman was an English company, eventually sold to Ruston-Bucyrus Ltd in the 80s.

It weighs 70 grand….. there isn’t a landscaper in the world that would want it.

Yoooo I love weird and wonky tracked vehicles!!!! Thanks dude!
It's for digging underwater, could have you a hell of hole with that.
Letsdig18 likes that old equipment. He lives over your way. Diesel creek likes that old stuff to.
If going to scrap, might run over stuff, give the plate a break

This machine is definitely worth more then scrap price. Someone like matt from diesel creek would be the kind of person to buy it

It also looks like you're saving a bunch of trucks in the background there. What's the deal with those?

Pond dredge some one will deffently want that
That is cool, I'm good with whatever you decide but I hope someone can use it
Keep that excavator that's a classic at least sell it to someone who could use it

Exhaust blowing…. Scrap it.!
Hey I was wondering whats the deal with all those sun drop trucks. Do any of then run?
You should try and use it for advertising out front put you company's name on the stick and the boom and definitely change the color
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Pretty sure that’s a mid-80’s model and somewhat rare to see.
There is a youtuber called diesel creek that loves this kinda stuff.
My first thought was to have them reach out to Matt @ Diesel Creek he loves old Iron. Or Dirt, Grain and Steel is another guy that loves old excavators. Even Let's Dig18. Definitely so.eone would take this in just the youtube world.
Sell it to diesel creek. He will for sure save that thing no problem.

I think in an open field that's a gooder idea. That's how I learned how to operate different pieces of heavy equipment
Famous design
use it around until it falls apart or breaks down then scrap it… built that fence etc fix those pot holes move scrap whatever
don't scrap it !!!!! if there is nothing wrong with it
can it be parted out. seems to run good. I understand a lot of labor to take it apart also. A shame it is just not as functional as newer stuff.
Which ever is the most profitable is what I’d do
I'm sure someone would buy it
I know a guy who needs that and his name is Dig it Starnes
I say you rip the boom off it and turn it into something different for the woods
If u do cut it save the engine Uk it’s a runner
Don't scrap. Bring it to me. I'll give you $5,000. 👌🏻
Alaska I'm assuming 😅
It's worth $5k or more as scrap...
@@JDeWittDIY yeah probably close to it. Obviously sarcasm on my part but it's a cool Machine. Would love to have it.
@@mitch95722 how'd you guess 😆
@@Allworldsk1 You probably can, but it would cost more than that to bring it to you. You probably need to up your offer a bit.
