The Pemberley arc has always been my favorite part of the book, even more than the payoff at the end. I just love how it holds so much lovely tension and hope for Elizabeth and Darcy (well, until the bad news happens), and LBD did not disappoint in adapting that! (Episode 78 is actually my favorite one of the entire series, so I'm excited for Tuesday!)
Typing as I watch. "Who's the we that approved your shadowing at Pemberley?" - probably the collective plotting of Gigi and Fitz, with a little help from Dr. Gardiner. ;) And Darcy probably only found out until after it was all set up. CEO, who? With the makeup being different, I remember that fans at that time interpreted it as Lizzie subconsciously doing it for.. reasons. Allison Paige and DVG look so scarily alike, it was surprising for many of us that they weren't actually related. But, then when it comes to casting, this show has never failed to knock it out of the park. Allison is just the right person to play Gigi - bubbly, sweet and mischievous, unlike the one in the book who is shy. And the chemistry between you two is just ... perfect.
I specifically remember that it didn't even occur to me that that was Gigi until the reveal and then I was like, "oh, duh, that should have been obvious," but in my defense, in P&P Lizzy is shown around Pemberley by the housekeeper, and she doesn't meet Georgiana until later when Darcy introduces them, so I think that's what I was expecting. Although I probably should have known that a low-budget show like this wouldn't go to the trouble of casting someone as the Pemberley housekeeper...
It makes a lot of sense budget and story-wise for the show to combine Gigi and Mrs. Reynolds, but I always enjoy when Mrs. Reynolds shows up in fanfics as Darcy's assistant.
Great video, loved the BTS info! 12:37 Just wanted to say I didn't find anything inauthentic about the room, I really liked it, it seemed realistic. It seems to me if Lizzie, a lowly visiting grad student shadowing a downtown SF firm needs some space to vlog, she is not going to get a room with a beautiful view. She will be tucked away into whatever space is available: a back room with a view of some roofs, as she was. She is probably lucky to get a window at all.
Having Gigi as tour guide was a great way to not only bring her in, but to have her go in and out of frame so Lizzie can do asides for us. Just a well-written episode.
It does make me wonder what Gigi thought about Caroline. I’m sure she knew that Caroline had feelings for Darcy and how she felt about that or if she thought that there was any chance of them actually dating
That's a great point that she's outside of her comfort zone here. Like you mention it's good to see that for her character because of the growth that happens, and that Lizzie has someone (Gigi) who is very welcoming into this new environment. Makes it much less awkward (well okay, maybe MORE awkward because of the next episode).
When y'all came to Leaky Con 2013 in Portland, Allison hadn't been announced with everyone else. So I'd had those plushies made of everyone there but her. I felt bad that she was the only one who didn't get a plushie of herself, so I went home to where I was staying that night and stayed up late making a Gigi doll to give the next day of con. All of you were so lovely about it
Talking about the probability of the fiction... there was a massive surge of fanfic right before this arc started, from P&P fans who knew the book, that was having Pemberly as a house and Lizzie somehow ended up actually staying there. The company makes much more sense.
I love the Pemberley part of the book and I think LBD did such a great job with it. I find it interesting you shot it out of sequence - I know that happens all the time with film but I've only done stage and it sounds really tricky to get in the right headspace for the emotions of the character out of order. Is it difficult or something you get very used to?
We did it through out the series and it’s still much more in order than many other TV/Film projects because with rare exception we still shot every episode in order. The rest was also much easier to track than some projects because we were always within an 8 episode span. It’s not like we filmed episode 2 and then 60 and then 18. But in general film does require more work on the actor’s part to track where the character is in the journey than a play.

Always assumed Fitz was partially responsible for Lizzie getting the place in Pemberley. Also assumed Darcy inherited the company, and wasn't the founder. Who knows?

As a former SF resident, I would have believed the Golden Gate Bridge. An office like Pemberly Digital would have been near the Bay Bridge. … I’ll see myself out…

The old Pemberley digital website, which no longer exists, did explain that Darcy founded the company, and I think named it for an old family estate.
