I was there at the beginning of April. I’m glad I went. It was heartbreaking see a place I hung out at and shopped at looking so bad. I was hoping to see it one more time but with the fire that place going to be watched and all the ways in are going to be tightly boarded up
The old Wards was in the best shape despite being closed the longest (that wing was walled off in 2010). Look at the satellite view of the mall and you’ll see why. The roof barely has anything on it, which means less holes to seal around. The mall’s roof is an absolute mess of vents, skylights (both current and old), air handlers, and air conditioners, with the leaks to prove it. It’s so bad that a tar bucket is still sitting on the roof near Penney’s. Did I hear the PlayStation 1 boot up sound in that one song?
Century III, Randall Park (Cleveland) and others were Ed Debartolo Sr's malls. I wonder how many have met the same fate and how many are still thriving...
JCPenney closed in 2020 and its crazy what can happen in a span of 3 years. Its already looking rough. Hopefully someone can wall it off completely. But knowing moonbeam wouldn’t do such a thing. All of the anchor stores have been broken into. Another Rolling Acres & Randall Park era.
Have to add more to this, in my lifetime I’ve explored abandoned malls a lot. Ive been thinking about going to Century III to explore it. But hearing what has been going on the past few months, I don’t want to get arrested or hurt. Did you feel paranoid that someone could be in there hiding? I always had a dark feeling when previously exploring malls.

Regency Mall in Augusta GA, Crystal River Mall, and Virginia Center commons all were debartolo malls that met a sad fate.

There was a way in, no one ever disclosed where it was. As of now they mall will likely be sealed off due to the recent fire.
