You know why those FOR LEASE signs didn't work? Because the rent for store space was probably sky high. Potential renters saw the cost and ran like hell.
@@DavidLLambertmobile Would explain somethings, particularly the inability to accept small business and offices who may rent the space while its still a favorable prospect. My irraition with it is all the stores I want are two towns over from where my broke butt can rent. Not that it matters since all the art stores are really limited in their selection outside of a couple money makers- sewing and scrapbooks *Eyeroll*
Once again, a well done remastered video! I love the young and the restless vaporwave music you've got playing. Such a classic for a classic mall. Thanks Dan for these amazing videos!
Wooowww is that the "The Young and the Restless" theme at (9:25)? Man I haven't heard that since I was a kid! My grandma used to love that show X3! Man that brought back memories...
That MUZAK is so 80's. Did you add that, or was that actually playing? I mean...eek. "Song Sung Blue" and "Laura's Theme"?! I don't know what's scarier. That it was playing, or that I recognized all of it!
I used to go to this mall a lot in the early to mid 90's. It was CROWDED. I haven't been there since but I immediately recognize it as if it was 1995 again (minus all the stores, people and life in general of course).
Only the anchors survive, today. The one good thing to come out of Hull's remake was a much-needed repaving of the cratered parking lot (in the worst places, anyway).
GNC is a Pittsburgh based firm. I'm 51. I remember stand alone GNCs all over 🇺🇸 for years. I've lived in Florida since 2000. GNCs are in about 40% malls rest, in strip malls. No real business.
it's so weird to see that what you're showing is already (nearly) a decade in the past. the world is changing quickly! Dead malls are already through their first wave.
It's a damn shame that this beautiful architecture didn't have somebody take better care of it. That center course was breathtaking! Bet you a cookie that the property manager was skimming money he should have spent on maintenance.
when a bank forecloses most properties require minimal work, but a large property requires a property management group and lots of money to be poured in to keep it just afloat. they need a proactive leasing agent who is actively searching for tenants, and making deals with prospects to fill those spaces. a mall is alike an oil tanker, it turns direction very slowly, its the main factor that leads to dead malls. as properties like them go through foreclosure, and sale or auction years can pass, especially of legal cases are at hand.
Remember walking through this mall constantly in the 90s with my momand brothers specifically for dollar tree i believe and we loved eating at the chic fil a or a taco casa i think it was called
Is it common to malls on the USA to never get remodeled or renovated?! Most malls on my country get renovated every decade or so, they look very new, and fresh.
Along with the general decline in mall popularity, this mall suffered from a perception issue. Perception of a criminal element from the adjoining city. People with $ to spend could spend where they felt safe - online or at the Berkshire Mall.
I have never understood why the malls are felling. Except for the way over priced clouths store. Just a couple of them. I love being in the mall shopping intead of going in and out of outside mall shopping when it us raining or very cold. If this makes sense. I miss Sears, J.C.Pennys. Normal stores.
JCPenney is still going strong 😃 In fact, mall owners have made a smart decision to invest money into them to keep them as an anchor. Strong anchor = strong store ♥️ I think it just might work too, check for a Penney's at a mall near you. Happy shopping!!
I miss this mall so much it so sad they demolished it. Thank you Dan for documenting and restoring to 4k looks amazing.
Breaks my heart too. I'm sorry your mall is gone I know how that feels. Much Love 😘♥️
Im loving this channel, its like its 5 - 6 years ago again and all of these are coming out for the first time ❤️ it

Few people know the ins & outs of US 🇺🇸 retail 🛒. Malls are not just shops with employees. They are like HOAs 🏘 or mini cities.

Omg yes, the Young and the Restless theme song is hilarious. 5 years later it’s still hilarious 😂

That "fast food restaurant" with the booths behind the gate was an Arby's.
The Muzak on this works like a gem…
The music really makes the experience 👌🏻
Lovely video, the music fits so well for this place
Loving all these remastered videos.
Thank you for the early Christmas present 🎁🎄
Looks stunning Dan!
I was still watching these original dead mall vids, but now more people can discover some tasty Dan Bell!
I love when Dan speaks with his authentic French accent!
Thee…. Cee-gar…. Tele-viz-ohn

You said the word "Muzak" and that took me way back, haven't installed a Muzak system in 14 years.
also young and restless theme song
The kiosk in front of the boxing store looked like a repurposed Things Remembered kiosk, but I couldn't get enough of a look at it
Ope, you went back to it. Yeap, that definitely looks like an old TR kiosk
I live in PA. We have potholes everywhere.
My wife and I love guessing what stores were in empty areas. I used to work in the food court in my local mall so I like guessing the food court spots
Fairgrounds Square, a true classic!
I love the music you choose 😃👍🏼
Love it! Amazing work you do❤️❤️❤️
Another great broadcast. Who does the music? It sounds like mall music. I kind of like it.

That’s the first time I ever heard The Way I Want to Touch You Muzak style.
Why the hell are shoe stores ALWAYS the last to go?? In all seriousness, does anyone know? I'm legit curious.
I wonder the same thing about GNCs and Bath & Body Works lol
I noticed that too!! And just how many damn shoe stores there were in malls back in the day as well. Bizarreness.

Omg... the "all aboard" at 9:36... I used to own a kiosk there....
Need those register number pole lights!
I know what you mean
the Young and the Restless theme song lmao
Why are they playing the theme song to Young and the Restless of the entire time
It's a damn shame that this beautiful architecture didn't have somebody take better care of it. That center course was breathtaking! Bet you a cookie that the property manager was skimming money he should have spent on maintenance.
there seem to be framerate issues. (original video had a different rate?)
The elevator music takes me back to the Mall s .the theme also waiting on hold for over hour , listening to the elevator music 🎵🎵🎶🎶
I guess those poor trees got flattened along with the mall. Sad

awww i miss malls... so sad

they wanted the clocks to be non-existent or tiny so customers keep shopping longer

7:10 That way, they will earn just enough to not go out of business
Is the music playing or did you add it ?
The music was added in post in my opinion it adds to the malls beauty.
It's called vaporware, ain't it cool af?
That little reporter at the beginning was kind of cute. Hey Ryan hit me up if you need someone to help carry your mic
Random old people, leaky roof, creepy music, FOR LEASE signs and buckets. Doesnt get any more depressing. Im going to watch "Fargo" to get happy.😂
Dan... do I hear The Young and the Restless theme song in this video?!?!?
I was thinking the samething .even though I don't watch soap shows .my mom did back in the days
It deffo is 😘♥️

That restaurant was Roy Roger's
SONG SONG BLUE!!!!!
1:00 No problem. They already shuffled $ millions to their overseas companies. Win win for the sociopaths who created it in the first place.

9:06 Think that was a burger king.
