Update! I realized after the video that some of these were from another collection I found. Either way still all fun to check out. ua-cam.com/video/b3T1eSnTzfk/v-deo.html
This brings back memories of my childhood. I was a huge collector of these in the mid to late 90s. KInda wish I still had mine, especially the slammers.
@@phxofficial13 I remember around 1996 or 1997ish my brother and I being at our grandparent's house and having "tournaments" between the two of us. We both had such amazing collections, I wish we kept them!
And play friendlies or for keeps but there was always that one kid who would play keeps until he lost the started to shout if was just friendly I'm telling the teacher on u.
I remember we played it the other way around. If you where able to flip them with the face plate up, you won them. It was so much fun. And me and my friend got the biggest collection in the street :D
Man, I remember these. They didn't last long but for a short time in spring/summer of 1995 this fad took over the world. I remember being in elementary school and at recess and lunch all you would see would be clusters of kids everywhere all huddled into circles gambling POGs.
Here in the philippines POG is very popular in street games i appreciate in changes over time to see this is turn out Edit: it is very popular in 60s,70s,80s,90s, and early 2000 i see it very rarely now when they play it
This was nice and interesting to see. As someone far too young to have experienced pogs, it's nice to finally have some idea on what exactly they are besides little circles with images on them.
I just got some off ebay. Man I missed slamming a fat stack and laughing at my opponent. I made my 6 year old cry but he wanted the authentic playground pog experience.
I'm so glad I kept mine after all these years! I remember being fourteen years old and crazy for Pogs! I have a giant plastic container full of Pogs, Slammers and the black, plastic play table with a purple Pog pad in the center. Same as the video!
I used to have a cutter so you could make a pog of anything. It had blank pog and you would take a magazine or picture, something thin an paper like then cut and glue it to the pog and presto, new personalized pog.
I played pogs when I was 6 with my dad it took me forever to find out what the name was couldn't remember only because someone said cog on TV and I was like that use to be a game with chips and it's actually pogs weird how one word can bring back a memory that has nothing to do with what the person on tv was talking about so glad you posted this to help me figure it out
I asked for this video about a year ago.And you definitely delivered. This takes me back to fith grade! I had so many of these in your video,Great find.Awesome nostalgic video for me.
I know this is super late, but for the slammers, you are supposed to really SLAM them down by flipping them under your fingers/hand. In this way you can flip a whole stack for a fast victory, or get enough force for those last few at the bottom.
Great video! In Germany, these were (are?) called CAPS. I still have a container (by Chupa Chups, including a Chupa Chups slammer) with a little collection of them. A lot of monsters and skulls like in your collection, and then also a bunch with varying themes such as Formula 1, Disney (Pocahontas, Lion King), Toy Story, Wrestling, Coca Cola, and then also a few from the Olympic Summer Games Atlanta '96 (these are lenticular). All in all , a good summary of things that were popular in the '90s :) Really cool to learn more about the history. This video brought back good memories :)
Well, interestingly enough, there are instructions on my Chupa Chups can on how to play the game. The pictures show using your thumb when throwing. I have a couple of slammers, though, that have small indentations for your index and middle fingers to make throwing (without using your thumb, I assume) easier. In any case, we played without using our thumbs, because otherwise it gets to easy after a while.
@@LuckyPennyShop I used to have a slammer, made by Trov, and they had 2 grooves on the back for your first finger and middle finger. (theyre still on ebay) This would help you use a slammer properly. The point is to only use those 2 fingers, have the slammer resting on them, (your fingernails facing the ground) and then in a quick motion, you would basically act like your hand is doing a loop on a rollercoaster and the motion is what keeps the slammer on your fingers as you quickly rotate them and when you're over the stack, you forcefully snap your wrist & fling the slammer down. Sort of whiplash movement.
I know I’m a bit late to this video but whole flashback Batman, Loved Pogs! I had the eight ball slammer, it was my favorite one out of all. We would get them on certain days with our school lunches.
I got a huge collection of pogs and other brands chupa chups, slammer whammer, chex etc I also got a rare pogman plush toy a rare pog badge and french collectors folder
Disneyland gave out pog sets with slammer. Those were awesome! Knotts Berry Farm gave out a whole sheet of pogs with Mystery Lodge slammer. McDonalds sold Universal Studios Pogs & metal movie slammers. Back to the Future & E.T. were the best. Del Taco sold Mighty Duck pogs LA Times gave out World Cup pogs. A different country's pog every day in newsstand copies. Jurassic Park + Simpsons had pogs. Anything big in 1993-1995 had a pog. (in 1999, for Star Wars Episode I, Taco Bell + Pizza Hut + KFC all had game pieces that were basically pogs)
I think I found some in the house and threw them out. When I was a kid it was the Pokémon cards that everyone was crazed about. I never even understood how to play it. These things are cool to look at though.
Why did pogs in general have so many designs such as “poison” and “skull” themes? 37:44 this made me laugh 39:56 the nostalgia of the playground 44:31 I had one of these “saw blade” slammers in 1st grade. My classmate Rodney kept being mean to me, my friends and everyone in class. The teacher hated him, as did the rest of the class. Rodney threw crumpled paper at us. He would take eraser shavings and put them in kids’ hair. He always yelled and interrupted the class. One day I remember having enough. Rodney was such a terror. I confronted him at recess while he was playing on the The Big Toy (playground). With my thumb gripping one side of the slammer and my pointer-finger on the other. I threw the slammer so hard in a vertical-striking motion. Rodney quickly cupped his bloodied forehead with both hands and screamed louder than a wounded dog. At that moment, he fell off the Big Toy, landing with a hard thud on the wet bark. He laid motionless until a Recess Teacher ran over. Rodney went to the hospital and never came back to school.
23 Years ago i was the master of them Started with Chupa Chups Box with 10 Pog, Ended up with Thousands Then i grew up and throw them all away into Dumpster, I regret it now, Want to see them for Nostalgia reasons :D
Oh man I remember when these first came out. I played this for literally days on end as a kid lol. And ro sham bo to me is when two men take turns kicking each other in the no no spot until one bows out. Sorry just had to point that out.
Makes me wonder if you even grew up with pogs... face up? Who does that? Everyone played pogs face down (before agreeing on the wagered number) and which slammer was permitted (EX: basic plastic or metal). Also, we had rules of how the slammer was suppose to be thrown and what distance was allowed for metal ones. Since there were so many manufacturers in California, we even had "house rules" on which brand was banned, since some literally wreaked the pogs. The technique used was index/middle finger placed in the middle of the slammer, while the thumb held it in place; not the "okay" hand signal...
my school usually used slammers instead of pogs and i lost my good one then i rematched the kid that beat me and i got my slammer again. we used metal and rubber slammers
Update! I realized after the video that some of these were from another collection I found. Either way still all fun to check out.
