The Gobert trade was HORRENDOUS for 3 reasons: 1. The capital and value that was lost was insane. 5 1st rounders, a pick swap, Walker Kessler, Pat Bev, Jared Vando, Malik Beasley, Leandro Bolmaro in order to acquire RUDY GOBERT and his bad contract 2. Literally the worst possible way to develop Anthony Edwards is to plant 2, 7’0s in the paint that are soft and have insanely high cap hits. 3. KAT has made a living dominating at playing the center role and out playing other large, burley centers. Kat’s weakness is going up against smaller players. The gobert trade literally forced KAT to play the power forward role where he is up against the smaller players. Yeah this trade made zero sense.

As a Wolves fan it never made sense and the longer he’s on it it will cost them some real good Ant years. I’m fine with both bigs being traded because you need versatility going forward in this league.
If the trade didn’t involve a bunch of picks it might be more palatable. I thought the more reasonable trade was Gobert + pick(s) for a young star, or Gobert for role players + 1 1st rounder. What the Wolves did were nuts.
I NEVER understood the Gobert trade for Minnesota. They gave up so many assets to stick a defensive center who is best used roaming the paint on a team with another guy who’s best used roaming the paint (on defense). The fit never made sense to me and to give all that up. That’s not even considering the fit offensively which may be just as bad. The trade was an absolute steal for Utah. They are perfectly set for a rebuild project.
Nobody had an idea kessler would be as good as he was yr 1. We weren't ever looking to draft kessler anyway. I dont like the amount of picks we gave up. Rudy played "alright" but not great. Towns was injured for most the yr and then when he came back we lost Naz and Jayden. Hard to tell what could've been, I think we did better against Denver than the other 2 have done with limited players. I love Kat and what he can bring, he just needs to clean it up some and get comfortable again. I think that's why we got Rudy, to try n take some of Kats fouls away to keep him in the game. He did a little better this time when getting into foul trouble but that part needs work for sure. If anything you trade rudy next yr and get what you can back if this doesnt work. Finch even said the rest of the league was going small so he's zigging when they're zagging
they brought in Gobert to make up for KAT's defence but now KAT has to defend 4s which nowadays are really just tall 3s with a lot of mobility and can shoot. This is such a terrible move that everybody knew was bad the day it was announced. the Wolves will never win with the people in charge
I think we were all very confused by the Gobert trade. I like Gobert as a player and the Twolves needed defense, but the price was absurd and you can't really play KAT and Gobert together very well. It reminded me of the Lakers getting Westbrook - he's a fine player but that's not what you need, and it's very expensive. As a Laker fan, though, I'm very happy that we ended up with Jarred Vanderbilt.
I actually think the only way out of this is to trade KAT to the blazers grab that third pick Simons and some more draft capital and start building around Edwards and a high draft pick. I feel like both teams should be down for that especially the Timberwolves or else they’re just doubling down on the worst trade ever
Can we give our team a fully healthy year before writing it off? They’ve shown glimpses of it working just need more time. Also we gave up additional picks to keep McDaniels which was clearly the right choice - it’s still an overpay don’t get me wrong. The Cavs and Hawks should also be getting criticized as much as we are for giving similar trade packages.
Would a Gobert for Ben Simmons trade be out of the question? Instead of getting out of KAT trying to move the Defensive anchor from a center to a 4 and giving KAT center again. Simmons has been broken but he could still be salvageable whereas Gobert isn’t broken at all, but he just doesn’t fit.
NO ONE can ever explain what makes KAT valuable to this team. He's in year 8. The franchise has gone absolutely nowhere with KAT. He's not a leader, he won't play defense, he won't play in the post. What everybody was looking for was for Gobert to be a scorer and that's never been what he does. Mike Conley made that move make sense. They didn't have a guard that could run the pick and roll. When you get a player like Edwards, EVERYTHING changes. I'd rather have a seven footer who's going to rebound and defend than one who won't defend and wants to shoot 3s all day. Ship Towns off and get some picks back.
JJ with astute analysis as usual. Legs comes out and claims KAT "wanted to move to the 4," implying he pushed for the Gobert trade. Uhhhh, you got the receipts on that, Legs? That's a fabrication. When the FO informed KAT of the move, he was on board for moving to the 4. He didn't push for this specific trade so he could change positions.
Tim Connelly left Denver for MN. And his thinking is "how do I prepare the Wolves to stop Jokic and the Nuggets?" Nobody else in the Western conference worried about the Nuggets. Injuries the last 2 years they did nothing in the playoffs, its' all Warriors, Lakers, Suns, Mavs, Clippers, all the teams everybody focused on preseason. But, Connelly is worried about Jokic because he saw Jokic destroy teams and he knows Jokic could last another 10 years in Denver. Even in a game 4 loss to the Suns Jokic scores 53 and that's not a surprise he can do that. And how do you defend Jokic? He gets the best Center defender in the NBA. Does it work? Nobody knows this year because of injuries to KAT, but they have a rising start in ANT they can build the team around, with another season and some assets in trade for KAT, the future is bright for that team with Gobert. Fans may look at that trade in a different light a couple of years from now. As a Nuggets fan I wouldn't rip the Wolves just yet. That's a team that will be better than it is now. Warriors, Lakers, Clippers, Suns will have to rebuild as older stars fade & leave. Kings, Nuggets, Wolves, Pels have young teams with cores under 30 that will only get better.
Everybody SHOULD know that they did it because they wanted to mirror what Cleveland did with their 3 big men lineup. Just didn't work for them like that.
The difference between Looney and Gobert, Looney knows his role. Gobert thinks he better than what he is. JJ said it on another pod, the problem is Robert isn't athletic enough to keep up with more versatile 4 or 5 outside the paint. Now the Wolves are stuck with this contract, they won't be able to keep KAT or Ant-Man. Terrible move and it was probably Glen Taylor who told him to do that trade...
Rudy Gobert was the Ben Wallace of Utah. Ok, maybe with a softer touch to score 3 more buckets a game, but that was it. He is valuable only in that system.
Did they overpay? A bit, but Rudy Gobert is the best defensive center in the league. It's understandable why they went after him. Unfortunately, Chris Finch has no idea how to use him. He is one of the best pick and roll centers in the league, one of the best rebounders, and the best defensive center. Quin Snyder figured out how to use him extremely well. Its up to Chris Finch to make it work.
I said when this trade happened i think were gonna look at this trade as the worst trade in sports history, not just nba. I believed if they took those very same assets and talked to the nets about KD i dont know if it wouldve gotten done but its deffinantly a discussion and to take that and get Rudy Gobert? Especially when you have Kat already just makes it all the worst. And im not one of those people who think Gobert is trash he is definitely good he is just not THAT GUY to make THAT TRADE for
Classic Minnesota sports. When things are going terribly, make no changes. When things start looking upward, completely destroy a good thing with huge, unnecessary changes. If it aint broke, dont fix it?? This town is cursed in the 4 major mens sports leagues.
Even as a 5 kat has never played like any semblance of a pivot. He's a stretch 4 and a soft one at that. Gobert is not David Robinson and Kat is not Duncan. Im not sure what the T Wolves were thinking.
They need to just liquidate Gobert and try to get any asset in return besides Ben Simmons. Keep Kat, Keep Ant and get any decent player for Gobert. I don't know why anyone says to trade Kat? He's clearly the superior player over Gobert and younger
KAT wanted D'Angelo Russell, it didn't work out. KAT don't want to play center, so they got Gobert. Still didn't work out. Seems like James Harden 2.0 with the Rockets but a worst player.
We all knew Minnesota was never going to win anything the moment they decided to get rid of Jimmy Butler. Gonna be a constant play in team with the dumbest amount of cap given to 2 of the least impactful position other than Jokic who at the 4 is a monster on both ends.
They could have had Walker Kessler and all their assets if they'd just chilled out. He's a better defender than Rudy. And as fantastic as he is, i feel like Ant is still a couple years away from ALL-IN WIN NOW time.
Gobert is really just a rim protector. That doesn't make him a great defender, he's not adding much value on offense either. If he was a cheap free agent signing it wouldn't be so bad, but they gave up so much to get him and even if it worked with KAT and him, it wouldn't have helped them go anywhere. I've seen him exposed against pick & roll too much.
nothing but excuses ...Boston plays with AL and Time Lord and it works very well ,it´s up to the coach to find solutions and also sub when the match up is bad . They can play 20 minutes together then have KAT play as a center when Gob is on the bench ...it´s not rocket science ,other teams they had a rim protector like Rudy

As a Jazz fan I was baffled. The twolves didn't have a team that would be a good fit for gobert. Yet they sold the farm for him
I'm not a Gobert fan but the fit on paper isn't terrible. It's the insane amount of assets they gave up is just insane
Honestly I don’t understand how the GM of Minnesota still has a job 😂 the trade for Rudy Gobert and making one opponent of your conference better 😂
I could imagine the moment Gobert signed that contract was the fastest he ever moved his muscle. 😂
Low hanging fruit. This is an off-season topic lol and you're 100% correct 😂💯
they brought in Gobert to make up for KAT's defence but now KAT has to defend 4s which nowadays are really just tall 3s with a lot of mobility and can shoot. This is such a terrible move that everybody knew was bad the day it was announced. the Wolves will never win with the people in charge
Showing your insane lack of basketball knowledge not considering Rudy a difference maker. Shouldn’t have a job in basketball media 😂
@timlegler clown
Miserably failed to mention Rudy is 3 times DPOY.
Everybody SHOULD know that they did it because they wanted to mirror what Cleveland did with their 3 big men lineup. Just didn't work for them like that.
Gobert at Center, KAT at PF and ANT with the ball SHOULD work. KAT hasn't been able to adjust, AT ALL
The difference between Looney and Gobert, Looney knows his role.
I thought it was a great trade but only because I ASSUMED they wouldn't keep Townes (no motor/kinda meh). They logjammed themselves it's nuts.
Rudy Gobert was the Ben Wallace of Utah. Ok, maybe with a softer touch to score 3 more buckets a game, but that was it. He is valuable only in that system.
Couldve been DLo, Ant, Buddy, Kat and Myles…. Not the greatest team defensively but wouldve been fun to watch.
Anybody that know a little bit about basketball knew it was a horrible trade for a myriad of reasons.....
What do you know months after, wolves are leading right now. 😂 Should be apologizing to RGobert right now… 😅
How does that change any of the concerns about long term flexibility
@@pimpnamedslickback7780Detroit has great flexibility. You take a chance to win. Flexibility means nothing if you can’t get out of playoff first round
Danny Ainge is a wizard
What’s worse the trade or him defending ja? It’s hard to tell.
I think they were trying to copy the blueprint that the Bucks put out with the Giannis/Lopez front court
Feel bad for Anthony Edwards
As a wolves fan, i can confirm i hate being a wolves fan.
got rid of a few quick players and got REALLY slow. I mean with Towns and Gobert on the court together they are a REALLY slow team.
It’s hard to have faith as a timberwolves fan. It’s more likely that our organization moves then getting to a conference playoff series
Love JJ and Legs together. 2 overachievers at everything by nature. Trader Danny put another notch on the one sided trade belt.
KAT wanted D'Angelo Russell, it didn't work out. KAT don't want to play center, so they got Gobert. Still didn't work out. Seems like James Harden 2.0 with the Rockets but a worst player.
Get Rudy on the show!
Gotta swing big if you wanna win a chip. Didn’t work out but you gotta try something - honest wolves fan
At least be smart when taking a big swing.
It makes sense now 😂
Gobert is really just a rim protector. That doesn't make him a great defender, he's not adding much value on offense either. If he was a cheap free agent signing it wouldn't be so bad, but they gave up so much to get him and even if it worked with KAT and him, it wouldn't have helped them go anywhere. I've seen him exposed against pick & roll too much.
they got coach problem. he is great for rebuilding team but bad for a team that have expectations
Kessler would not be in the starting line-up if Vando was still playing.
Can I make you a quick theme song?
nothing but excuses ...Boston plays with AL and Time Lord and it works very well ,it´s up to the coach to find solutions and also sub when the match up is bad . They can play 20 minutes together then have KAT play as a center when Gob is on the bench ...it´s not rocket science ,other teams they had a rim protector like Rudy
Gotta trade Kat. They can get a good haul for him and improve the team. Anthony Edwards is the future of the team. With Rudy, you can easily trade KAT for a second star and more.
The Front Office needs to be investigated. Who thinks to donate to another franchise?
Same bruh. They basically had the same result at the end of the season as the previous year. They could’ve kept those picks & still be mediocre
