    I'm gonna say this as a statement of fact, Gobert has a way WAY higher chance of being a piece on a championship team than Mitchell does. Rudy can be a complimentary piece playing at an all time level in his role, Donovan can lead a team to the playoffs but he cannot play his role to a high enough level to win it all.

    • @cjtrules1
      @cjtrules1 2 роки тому +2

      True with Gobert. Defense is the part of the sport that makes it a team sport. You can have 1 or 2 people be offensive juggernauts and be fine there but if 1 or 2 lack on defense then you are going to fail. We've seen that every year.
      I do not agree with your Mitchell comments. He is still really early in his career and has room to grow. Some stars realize they can't do it alone and need a 1B or needs to be the 1B to a 1A, while others don't realize it. Melo is a good example of a player who spent most of his career as the #1 option and it got him nowhere. He's now on his last legs chasing championships. The faster Mitchell can adjust to not being in control every possession but still be a contributor on the court, the quicker his team will become a legit contender and not a playoff joke.

      I think this is recency bias. Obviously the Jazz team chemistry was off, particularly when they traded Ingles away after he was injured - that was a dog move by Danny Ainge. Donovan Mitchell was elite in the 2021 playoffs and he was playing hurt during the Clippers series. Not to mention Donovan put up 39, 9 and 9 in game 6 so what the hell are you on about?
      Mitchell has also never missed the playoffs in his career. As a rookie he was already dominating in the playoffs.

    • @timeoutproductions5113

      The other major issue is that Rudy can't score. If he at least had a mid-range jumper or a few moves that changes everything but if teams go small in the playoffs he can't guard anyone and doesn't score on offense. Plain and simple

    Gobert is actually good for the NBA because he weeds out the casuals from actual basketball fans. He might not be flashy on offense, but he's an elite defensive center who sets some of the best screens in the league, which is a big part of the offense as well. Only casuals want Rudy to have a full post game and a jump shot. I'd rather he play elite level defense and set monster screens to allow the other offensive minded players to work freely.

      I mean.....I agree hes great but yea he needs a reliable hook or something man. The Clippers 5 out lineup destroyed them but if Rudy could punish small dudes more it might force them out of it. @mgschwartz 2 роки тому +17

      It’s like you guys watched the clippers series but don’t actually understand what you’re seeing. The perimeter defenders on the Jazz we’re giving up dribble penetration out of ISOs, no screens needed. Conley and Mitchell were both hurt (and Mitchell straight sucked offensively the 2nd half of that series). People blaming Gobert for not being able to chase shooters all over the court and defend the rim while the other 4 guys have wide open lanes to the rim is stupid.
      Also, Anthony edwards can say he ain’t scared of Rudy, but the fact is that Ant got blown out by 30 and only had 2 shots at the rim all game. Ain’t no shotblocker scared of a dude who doesn’t attack and settles for pull up Js. Just like ain’t no defender remotely scared of Westbrook as an offensive player. Every team just leaves him wide open and dares him to beat them offensively because he isn’t good enough a decision maker to reliably do that in the last 5 years.

I think he’s had a double double in almost every game except one or two this season so far. Monster doubles doubles too, usually with like 15 points and 20 boards. I think it just depends on the makeup of the team. The Jazz are loaded with scorers, so Gobert’s offensive deficiencies aren’t as glaring. They certainly didn’t lose the Clippers series because he has no post game.

    Rudy faces a perfect storm for being underrated: 1) he's huge, so people disregard his actual talents, esp. his footwork 2) Americans underrate foreign-born players in general, and disrespect the French in particular, 3) he's a defensive monster which doesn't translate well to stat sheets, 4) he made one joke to the media that ended up being a ridiculously poor-judgment moment, 5) there are a couple of specific team matchups that make him look terrible at the thing he's great at, and 6) at the same time as all of this, there's a fatigue level with him after winning DPOY so many times in a row. If he has a Finals MVP type series I think he could turn it around but it really will take that.

    Factsss! The unfortunate truth is that people won’t see Rudy as a Elite for the same reason why people think it’s not even a discussion that LeBron James could be greater than Michael Jordan and that reason… Scoring, No obviously I’ll because he is a Squaa First people see you as passive and Jordan was a killer but that’s really one aspect of the game the one aspect that fans for some reason mostly see. The reason why Rudy Gobert doesn’t get the respect he deserves is the same reason that Rossianno wasn’t considered a part of the big three even though he might’ve arguably been top three most impactful players in their runs. Real basketball players and fans understand that somebody can impact and be elite in other categories than scoring and it means more than just being so good one on one that no one can guard you. If Gobert averaged 20 they would say he’s the best big in the league 😅 since he doesn’t they might say he’s top 5 🤦🏽‍♂️ sad truth

    NBA should start using the ACB (Spanish league) valoration metric wich I believe is a better metric of how a player performed in a game. It's calculated as
    (Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks + Fouls Drawn) - (Missed Field Goals + Missed Free Throws + Turnovers + Shots Rejected + Fouls Committed).

  • @BengaIaas
    @BengaIaas 2 роки тому

    There is one unfair and two fair reasons why Gobert isn't valued that high.
    The unfair reason is that defensive performance isn't as obvious as offense. Even the advanced metrics are useless without context, so average viewers have no way to grasp the value of a great defender.
    Now for the fair reasons, one is that with the way the game is played the past few years in the playoffs, a lot of teams sub out their center anyway, so drawing the opposing Center out of the paint is sometimes part of their plan anyway. The second is that even when there's a forward defending him he will still score about 10 to 15 points. If you can't go off when you have a mismatch, then you're not really a star to lead a team to the finals.

    Wolves to the western conference finals you heard it here first! watch and learn it’s literally gonna be stretchers and body bags on the sidelines after all the in game posters! I guarantee this team will be the most exciting team for the next 5-7 years! The pick and roll and teams bring so focused on gobert catching oops is gonna lead to the most dunks in a season! KAT AND ANT SLO MO AND MCDANIELS ARE GONNA FEAST ON THE LEAGUE AND BE TALL LONG DEFENSIVE AND WILLING PASSERS! 🐺 WILL FEAST! The pick on The jazz were bums that RUDY been dragging to the playoffs every year they had no athletes nor defenders and were short! Wolves vs Warriors Can’t wait!!!

    Overrated. Consistently gets played off the court in the playoffs where he gets schemed off the court offensively and defensively. Great shot blocker but you need more than that. Gobert not sacrificing his offense, he has no offense. Teams would love to see gobert get post touches. He is lob threat though which is nice. Drop coverage is not it in the playoffs. Draymond doesn’t have flashy stats, he doesn’t even have better rebounding or shot blocking stats. However draymond is way better and more valuable than gobert on offense and defense. Real ones can see gobert ain’t it.
