- I Added a Pair of Expert-Level Fish to the Waterbox Cube 20 - Nano Reef (No Skimmer) | Blue Reef Tank
This week, I am sharing an exciting new fish addition to the Waterbox Cube 20 - A pair of Red Scooter Dragonets! I got them on two instances and I am so glad that they are getting along well. I kept them for a month in my quarantine tank to fatten them up as they came really skinny. I feed them baby brine shrimps that I culture and frozen food such as brine shrimps and lobster eggs. They are now back to health and no longer have sunken belly.
They are so interesting to watch, especially when they flare their dorsal fin during courtship and when they bury themselves in the sand. They love their new home and get along with the other tank mates in my Waterbox Cube 20.
I hope you enjoy this week's content and don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss out on the exciting things to come!

This is the first ever Reef keeping channel that is actually interesting and keeps my attention span... Amazing work, it's so soothing. Your approach to acclimation, animal comfort and maintanance is also astounding!

Will do John! :D

Thanks for this video. I didnt think you could keep the manderin with the scooters until I saw this video :)
The only thing that won't go well together is the green mandarin and spotted mandarin. Aparently the spotted mandarin likes to bully the green mandarin.
Happy I ran into your channel. Cool production. Subscribed
Thank you!

No way!! that's my absolute favourite fish ever!! So adorable! Idk why I always name fish after food but you should really call them berries and cream. I am obsessed with your videos, thank you!
They are so cute! I hope I can get them to breed in the future :D I love to name my fish after food as well haha! Berries and cream sounds adorable. Thanks for watching my videos, much appreciated :)

Happy Birthday buddy! It's a waterbox cube 20 tank :D
@@BlueReefTank yeah thanks !
Nice video as always. Makes me happy and calm.
Hope your tanks are okay after the earthquake this morning
Thanks Taylor! Hope your tanks are okay too. Mine was a bit wavy this morning but thank god no leak whatsoever😅
@@BlueReefTank I'm Sydney bassed so didnt feel anything here luckily
Ahh right, lucky you! Haha
My favorite fish! I don't consider them expert fish though.
I still won't recommend this fish to a beginner though as they need to eat constantly :)
How did u train it to eat frozen food?any tips? Thanks
I just use a turkey baster and squirt a bunch of frozen food in front of them couple of times a day until they took interest on it and decided to taste it. It's best to train them in quarantine tank if you can so they don't have to compete with other fish but with that, you need to have a constant supply of baby brine shrimp so they can graze all day. Just keep trying and eventually they'll eat it. 🙂
Wow those are great! Future updates for the Peninsula 25? 👀
Coming soon 😉
Love the video series! I was wondering what you use to film and edit your videos? Also where di you get your drip aclimation tube?
Thanks Will! I am using my Canon EOS M50 plus a few different lenses to film. For editing, I am using Davinci Resolve (It's free). I got my drip acclimation tube from ebay. It's called the Accudrip from Innovative Marine. Here's the Amazon link amzn.to/3AzMBEq
Slow drips can crash pH. Be careful. I like to add 10% of volume at a time.
When you're using/losing tank water to drip acclimate fish, invertebrates, etc. Do you top it off after with salt water or you shouldn't have to worry about it and let the ato top it off with the rodi water?
I usually turn off the ATO before I do any drip acclimation. I top it off with saltwater after that so my salinity stays the same :)
perfect
Thank you! :D
@@BlueReefTank 👍
I had one of these, beautiful fish... mine managed to jump out of the tank though :(
Sorry for your lost mate 😐
Hey mate, how often do you harvest cultures and dose your tank? I have two dragonets in my tank, running pod cultures. Thanks for the videos.
I try to harvest my copepods every week or two depending on how well the cultures are doing :) When there's a boom in population, I harvest more often. If not, I just leave the pods to multiply
@@BlueReefTank gotcha. Have you ever had much luck feeding your dragonets frozen food?
Hey! I really like your tanks and I feel like you probably the best reefer out there. I have one reef tank and recently there has been a lot of algae. I have my lights on for 8 hours a day for some zoas. Is it just the tank ageing?
Thank you for the kind words :) Do you feed the tank a lot? And do you dose anything? You can try to introduce things like tuxedo urchin, turbo snail, etc. They'll eat those hair algae 😁
@@BlueReefTank thanks I actually just posted a video of my reef tank and is would be sick if you could tell me what you think. Another issue I’m having is some of my coral not opening. Are they dead? And I dose calcium and alkalinity by the way
@@joesreef7089 Hey man! Good work on your videos and keep it coming :) What's your water parameter at the moment?
@@BlueReefTank I know it’s low but it should only affect the hammer. Calcium is 350 everything else (haven’t tested alkalinity) is zero. Ph is 8.2
Bandit and Florence
Is what you should call them
Love this!
@@BlueReefTank thank you
I heard that fish world aquarium does not ship online how does that work? Also may I ask were you got you cube 20?
Are you based in Melb mate? If yes, speak to Andy Tran from Fish World and he should be able to sort something out for you. Unless you live in other states? I heard shipping is very slow right now and many sellers don't want to take the risk. I think I got my cube 20 from Nature Aquarium 🤔 Most LFS would stock them
aren't all dragonets venomous. not sure I'd touch them with my hands. never found any information on their venom but I wouldn't want to find out first hand.
I’m interested also how you got them to eat frozen food, did you feed oyster eggs or lobster eggs? Ty
🙂 I find that they love frozen lobster eggs and the eggs are very nutritious as it contains a lot of fat
@@BlueReefTank thank you, I’ll have to get some lobster eggs , right now I keep brine going all the time.
Where do you get the lobster eggs, I can only find them on UK sites?
Dude, Tell me how to keep a red finger gorgonian alive please :)
does the mandarin also eat frozen?
love the vid
Thank you! Only the female mandarin eats frozen. The male eats white worms though which has a high fat content
Wow, you're also in Melbourne. Where do you buy your fish and equipment?
I go everywhere to shop 😄 But if you're after some good LFS, you can go to Deer Park Aquarium, Fish World Aquarium and Williamstown Aquarium just to name a few
@@BlueReefTank thanks mate!
what are these fishes? pink dragonets?
These are called the red scooter dragonet (Synchiropus Stellatus) 🙂
Usually during quarantine each time a fish is added, you have to restart the quarantine from day 1 to all the fishes that was inside. Yeah it s****s I know xD. When did you removed the other couple?
Sorry for the late reply buddy! Yep, I am aware of that :D The other couple is still in the qt tank actually. I will move them out soon :)
I miss the lo fi music tbh
I will try to find some lo fi music for future videos :D
how do you feed them if you go out of town?
I will have to get someone to feed them :D
What camera do you use?
I am using Canon EOS M50 to take all my videos and you can check out the lense in the video description :)
First of all i discover your channel yesterday. İ missed alot:(. İ start to watch all your videos.
Great cinamatic videos. Thank you very much.
İ watch Mandarin video too. İ read the comments also. İ learn that by making a quarantine tank we can acclimate fishes to frozen food . Can we also pallet or flake food too?
İ have a 15lt tank. İ will change water every other day . Do you have any advise for acclimating and care of these fishes.
Thank you very much. Have good hobby and days...
Welcome aboard buddy! :D Yes you can definitely train them to eat pellet and flake foods but just make sure to keep an eye on the water parameter as dry food tends to spoil the water quicker than frozen food. For fish, I normally acclimate them for an hour using the drip acclimation method (2-3 drops per second). Just make sure that your display tank has lots of copepods and I would suggest to start your own culture of copepods on the side :) In the quarantine tank, you can hatch some baby brine shrimp every 2 days so they have food all the time in the qt tank.
@@BlueReefTank thanks for the suggestions. İ will use them too. But how can i start copepod culture ? Do you add some sort of bacteria like fluids. İn my country (Turkey) copepods are not selling in a bottle.
