One of the best video ive seen about this transmission cooler, thanks man for the explanation , with your help i think i can do it aswell , btw man , you repair the trans issue ? and you run it with this new cooler? found a significat difference before and after the installation? and thanks again for this video.
You're welcome! If your vette is newer (2000+) you may need a Hayden fitting part 390, thanks to @jacksabelhaus178 for let us know that. We did get the transmission swapped out before running the old fluid/trans. With a used known to be good transmission and new fluid, we are now seeing temps staying lower than they were previously. I don't recall exact temps, but it's lower.
Would it be a good idea to put the trans cooler in-line with the return line as opposed to the feed line. If the trans fluid is cooled, the routed back through the hot radiator wouldn't it reheat the trans fluid?
Yes, and that's how I did mine. The top line on the transmission is the return (from radiator), the top transmission line on the radiator is the return. So I ran it from the top radiator line to the cooler, from the cooler back to the (top) transmission line. That way the radiator cooled it first, then the fluid cooled even more in the cooler itself. I haven't seen high temps since, were around 180f
@@ArcticVette dang, mine doesn’t come with one, they’re nearly impossible to find either. I I had more luck fitting a brake line in there but still running into issues with leaking because I put a compression fitting to 6an on the other end
@@RACKO1I searched real quick and found this at AutoZone. Dorman Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line Fitting part number 800-753. That looks similar to the stock one I had. Is yours an automatic too?
@@ArcticVette Yeah mine is auto, the male end of that adapter is too small for our radiators though :/ atleast mine. I’m trying 2 other adapters today and I’ll let you know how it goes
The Hayden Trans-cooler part number 679, came as a kit with everything needed. You'll also want to pick up some extra transmission fluid. Here's a link to the trans-cooler: amzn.to/4ahipzK
@@ArcticVette Installed mine last week, I have a 2000 MY, only difference from your set up is I needed Hayden fittings kit Part number: 390 . Looks like there was a radiator fitting design change in 2001. Just posting here so anyone with a 97-2000 does the same!
Prior to this, I found where the leak was and determined we needed a new transmission. Mainly because we lost a couple gears, then all of them, and finally the fluid all ran out from the front where the torque converter is at. So we bought a used transmission, and torque converter to replace the original that was rebuilt previously. I really think it was just the torque converter, once we got everything out but I'm not sure. Anyhow now it's all good and working great 🙌🏼🥰
Great video Brother. I appreciate it
Thank you! 🙌🏼

Hey what size adapter did you have in there originally? And where did you get it from?
@@RACKO1 they're stock as far as I know. I bet a parts store would carry replacements
