2022 Honda Civic vs 2021 Mazda 3 - Battle of the semi-premium compact sedans.
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 тра 2024
- For 2022 Honda has updated the Civic immensely it's more premium, bigger and just better in general. It kinda sounds like what Mazda did to their Mazda 3 a couple years back so it's perfect to compare these two compact sedans to see which one is better.
***EDIT - Honda says the vents are made from metal rather than plastic **

I don’t understand why people complain about the Mazda screen not being touch capable. Why would you want to have to reach over and get fingerprints all over it when you can easily control from arm rest position?
It's more intuitive with touching the screen. There's more control in that. Sure the control knob in the Mazda 3 is good but nothing beats the direct control with your fingers. Speaking of reaching out, well the infotainment is quite further and I would say, misplaced.
not everything needs to act like a smart phone@@MrNiceGuy0891
@@MrNiceGuy0891 i disagree, I think you just have to get used to the knob. After that it is more intuitive, often you don't even need to look at the screen, or you only have to look there for a brief moment, unlike with the touchscreen.
I think it's more practical as touch screen because when you are driving with hands on wheel it's more closer to you and you don't have to make big movements like from hand rest position to wheel .and it's much faster while driving
@@MartonDev Which is a huge problem when your passenger is trying to use it. "Hey man, put this place in nav for me" as I'm waiting to turn out of a parking lot because I don't know which way to go and they're fumbling around with the silly knob instead of pressing the mic button.
Especially annoying without an obvious Next or Seek or etc button.
It’s funny because the Civic is marketed as a fun car to drive while Mazda has mentioned that they want to deliver a more mature experience. But here the Mazda seems like the fun car to drive and the Civic seems like the mature utilitarian car.
I went from a Civic to a Mazda and I liked my Civic, but when I went to drive the newer ones I actually preferred the Mazda and how it drove, so it was an easy decision. I also love the interior more it feels way more luxury and to be fair I don't have to drive a lot and I'm in SoCal, but the Sport option on the touring makes it so fun to drive on highways.
should have tried the civic si
Any cons so far?
Downgraded. Honda is far superior to mazda
@@justinmartin4841 not at all. Sit in one and youll see
Would you say which one is more comfortable, quiter, softer?
I personally prefer the Mazda knob to the touch screen. I feel like it’s much easier to use when driving as I can focus on driving while moving between menus, due to muscle memory. Overall, I love my Mazda 3…Best car I ever owned!
100% agree, way easier than touch screen
Yep. Agreed. Arguably, it's safer too
I drove Honda for 13 years. Recently, I switched over to Mazda and was wow-ed by the Zoom Zoom feel. Very premium feel and looks coming from its price point. And the Civic costs 0.25% more than Mazda in my country.
Honda has higher resale value so is less expensive over time.
@@sk-un5jq No longer , as CVT and tiny turbo engines along with other design and quality issues drag it down
@Ms. Zoldyck You are wrong
Would agree, but still depends from car to car, I woudl say.
p.s. Can drop by if have time.
@@kdomster9141 Sorry to break the news to you but Honda still has a higher resell value. If you don't agree maybe you need to go look at used car sale prices. Paid $32k for my accord 3 years later the dealership offered me 27k for it.
Once you drive a Mazda, you are a fan.
I was a CIVIC fan boy for years until i bought the Axela, my charming beauty.
Even the new ones...mazda looks great any given day.
The complete lack of touchscreens in the Mazda was actually one of the buying desicions for me. Im extremely happy with the infotainment. No fuss, no complicated animations nothing that distracts you. Its among the best out there when it comes to safety.
Same, I don't get the whole trend with replacing every single button with a touch screen. It's no different than using your phone while driving, it just doesn't feel safe to me.
I want to be able to immediately set the temperature or volume with just turning a knob, rather than tap through a menu screen.
Exactly, I have a 2020 Mazda 3 (EU-Spec) as well and despite the lack of like online functionality, I really love the fact that you can operate the infotainment mostly without even looking at it. The placement of the buttons around the scroll wheel is just so perfect, even better than the previous generation. I've once test driven a Ford Fiesta and using the Sync 3 system in traffic was just a nighmare of me, way too much disturbance plus always having to remove your eyes from the road to glance at the screen.
@BronzeXV70 the lack of Touchscreen only annoys me when i type into the Navigation. The official Statement from mazda is that the placement of the screen up Front in the drivers field of view makes it impractical for Touchscreen usage. But youre right being able to have Touch while stationary like in the older models wouldnt have hurt.
As a Mazda 3 sedan owner.I have to say whether is interior and exterior of the car itself looks amazing.every time i started the engine make me feel happy and excite. There are two things make this sedan extremely special which was the driving experience and the boom boom moments!!!

.....and then after all the comparisons, you realize: The Civic has a CVT, while the Mazda has a real transmission. I could have made this video a whole lot shorter.
Great review. Another very slept on feature in the Mazda is the sequential mode which on most 6 speed automatic transmissions barely mimics the gear shifting and is usually very delayed. With the proprietary Mazda Skyactiv transmission the shifts are very responsive like a manual transmission and allows for a fair bit of passing power even on the base model in gears 2-4, this is especially helpful on inclines and gives you way more control over your vehicle compared to the Honda CVT especially the newer ones where it's just buttons lol.
Mazda for me.........
Resale is shit
Good comparison but I think there is no Mazda 1.5L in Canada, unlike in Asia. I wish to know the oil consumption for Mazda 1.5L vs Honda 1.5(lower spec). Hope anyone could shed their experience..
If for single person or just you & your partner, I would prefer Mazda 3. Its comfort, pleasure, looks sexy esp red colour. Unfortunately we dont get Bose sound system for Mazda 3 in Malaysia.
And Honda Civic for your girl friend
Honda for me……..
I test drove a Mazda3 and a Civic a few years back and much preferred the driving experience of the Mazda3. Sure the back seats aren't as roomy but if you don't have kids anyone in the back seat doesn't matter.
Man this such an in-depth video I absolutely love it. I rarely comment on peoples videos but the way this is filmed and just over all production and info is top tier. I love how calm and collected you are. Keep it up. +1 subscriber

One thing to consider (in the USA atleast), Mazda isn’t making a whole lot of the lowest model Mazda 3. They’re trying to move into the luxury sedan market (similar to Acura/Lexus). When we were car shopping a few months ago, it was impossible to find the cheapest model Mazda 3. The Civic was readily available though.

Thank you! It’s very difficult to do it this way but I’ll try to do more in the future.
You're right, the Mazda 3's driving and exterior are a little better, and the interior is a substantial amount better but smaller so its more in line with a single guy looking for a little more shimmer .
( good looks despite being 2 years older than the civic, the gauge cluster of the Mazda also just looks classier to me , mixing an older style with new tech seamlessly... feels like it will be able to hold up style-wise a lot better over time)
The normal civic is for someone that wants a sedan while having a wife and small kids, getting a little better fuel economy, resale value and having to carry cargo and tall people in the back a lot. Practical!
Good review hope your channel grows big!
Appreciate your kind words!
i just got a mazda 3 a few weeks ago and speaking as a single uni student, i couldn’t ask for anything more. significantly better performance, both in speed and handling, and the interior had my friends thinking it was in the price range of a 328i. ladies love it too lol
I got the Mazda 3 because overall the car looks so sleek and is so luxurious. Get the features of a Mercedes and BMW for 30 grand.
Should be worded, “Do you want CVT or a automatic transmission?” I think people who know cars, will say the Mazda. 😊
For sure! Enthusiast do love a good solid transmission option

Just bought a car a month ago. My top runners were Civic , Mazda 3 (hatch), Lexus RX, Tesla 3. I did so much research and test driving on all those, and hands down the Mazda was a clear winner on all fronts. Price, luxury, feel of the car, safety features.
I drive daily about 300km to and from work and I can safely say , Mazda 3 2021 (top trim) is absolutely an amazing car
Edit: it's a small car. If you need a lot of space and you dont like the overall feeling of a small car definitely not for you.
300km in a single day? Holy crap
Wow 300km a day.
My wife’s commute is 30km and she considers that pretty long lol
how did you cross shop a lexus RX (big SUV) and a bunch of sedans? Did you mean the IS (sedan) or the UX (small crossover?)
@@Shiinamusiclyricssubs I know it's a strange mix , but at that time they had a sell on the RX. The price deduction was quite big so that's why I went with that consideration. Looks wise I would definitely prefer the IS but that was too much above my budget

Its okay tho , I mean it wont be forever. But the luxuries inside of the car really help for a pleasant drive
I have a 21 Mazda 3 select. What a great car. It's super comfy, the boot is deceivingly spacious, and it's as quick as a daily driver would need when you put it in sport mode. It's quite a looker in the red color, too.
You guys do a good job of providing information. None of this BS back and forth of putting the other guy down or the [you know who you are] father/son thing. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Just my myself and I on this team, it’s a lot of work but I certainly enjoy it.
I really appreciated your video… Very well done.. You certainly compete with the big boys
Appreciate it!
I love my mazda 3 Select. The thing I immediately notices was how quiet the road noise is and how refined and just elegantly styled it was. Simple, but modern. I also love the dial, I came from a 2010 GTI with a touch screen and I actually hated the touch screen, even in my dads 2020 F150 it just seems so cumbersome to try to reach over and mess with it, while with the dial I can learn where everything is and be able to navigate with little to no distraction while maintaining a more neutral driving position. I've also noticed that I very consistently get better than advertised gas milage, up to 40 MPG on the highway cruising at 70
My only complaints are the occasional come and go rattle, mostly right next to my head for the seat belt height adjustment, and on longer drives, the selects seats can be a little too firm for my taste especially since they aren't heated in the select.
Lol I also bought select few days ago . So happy with purchase
I recently bought 2015 mazda 3 and I should say it is really a fun car !

Mazda for me. It’s so fun to drive. I drove the new 2022 Civic and the interior is nice I just felt that it was cheap. It felt cheap to me and I was so bored. My old car was an 05 Civic and I loved the car. It was Special Edition in a nice Gray color. Charging almost $34-40k for the new Civic I got myself a Mazda for a great price. My mom bought her first car and it was a Mazda then she upgraded to a CX-7. I loved the interior. I always felt that Mazda felt like home. They got themselves a loyal customer.
Ye i have Mazda 3 and my dad got into them he came from a Buick enclave that was nothing but problems to a CX-5 and not a single problem with that car. Lease is up and he got a cx9 AWD turbo.
I'm a fan of the scroll wheel really, i find it very intuitive and can do a lot of functions with muscle memory and don't have to actually look at the screen to do things
thanks for the review, after seeing this I made a choice, and I'm going to get it. I am really stocked for a Mazda 3 preferred model (all black ) and I'm going to have it in three days. after test driving and seeing the prices, the civic sport the new one in this market is selling for 31 grand here in Atlanta but I was able to get this Mazda for MSRP straight .

I remember it took me 4 months to decide on a car, I test drove so many that I just had to hand it down to a 2017 Mazda 3, I have a 2.0L FWD and currently averaging 5.9L/100KM ~ 6.9L/100KM depending on how I drive it, fuel economy is worse on most AWD's so its understandable if you go for it.
I thought I will need Android Auto but turns out I don't miss it at all though its a bonus to have, that HUD (Heads Up Display) on the Mazda though...I think that's a luxury feature you won't find on most cars of its segment, I really enjoy it every time I drive.
How you likin it as of now?
The most important thing about car shopping is trying it in person. You might be surprised with what you’ll realize! I thought my dad was a no frills toyota Camry guy, but he was blown away by the luxury feel of mazdas. Hondas, although great products, just didn’t wow him.
Well presented. Thank you.
They are positioned differently. Civic is positioned to be the best all around car in the sector. Mazda is positioned to have the best driving dynamic.
3 excellent vehicles, low cost, low maintenance, long life, reliable-Corolla, Civic, Mazda. Difficult to choose between them

TBH, non-turbo 2.5L Mazda 3 with 6 speed auto is the most practical of any trim choices for both. Most economy cars are purchased to last a long time with little maintenance cost.
Oh 100% but…. Turbo power is just so good!
Both Honda and Mazda, has their own characteristic and stunning look.
I love the design that Honda done for new Civic, especially the design of interior and Dashboard. More premium and out of the box than older version. Overall it looks more mature and more stunning design in and out.
Other hand, Mazda with their Kodo Design, as usual with their premium look and keep up with their great interior materials. Their phylosophy Zoom Zoom, you can see they focus on driver excitement rather than passenger, especially in the second row.
Me also ain't black painted wheel fans, more easily get dirty and it doesn't suit the elegant design of Mazda 3.
Both of them are great cars with own speciality. I love this both Brands.

As an owner of the current gen 3, I will say that the new Civic looks better in person that in video. Similarly, you really need to get inside a 3 to appreciate just how good the interior is/punches well above its class.
@@TheGreektrojan I definitely agree with you
@@hondacr-vtouringguy8327 Looks are subjective.
I've had the previous gen Civic and now I drive a Mazda3 GT AWD. Here are my non scientific thoughts.
1) Civic has really low operating and maintaining costs. Mazda3 is a bit more expensive (gaz and service)
2) M3 has a more premium and refine feeling.
3) AWD has a cost, but it's a nice option to have
4) Civic feels more roomy. M3 can be tight
5) Mazda3 adaptative cruise control is more stressful than Civic's. I often have the impression that the car brakes too late.
6) I had the AC broken twice on the Civic and in the M3, the radars are now broken. Both are warranty covered, but it's a pain ITA when it happens.
7) Civic's touchscreen is more intuitive than M3's physical infotainment controls, but you're gonna get used to it. It's not THAT bad.
So, both cars are solid and good buys to my opinion. Depends on your priorities. I'm Canadian for those who may wonder
M3 adapative cruise control has gotten better, I would say it does the opposite on from your impressions on #5 It brakes to early and too harshly. It does a better job of slowly braking with its newer updates but other cars have better experiences, like letting the car roll to slow down then braking (like normal human)
The infotainment system I do like better than on the M3, the dial allows me to keep straight while driving. Almost always when using a touchscren I tend to veer the direction I lean in to touch. The touchpad that lexus uses would be best - with a cursor that snaps to each clickable button. Easy to understand, no reaching, no fingerprints
I am the owner of a M3 2.5L 2021. I've tried multiple times the Civic 10th gen and twice the 11th gen. So let me extend your list:
8) The seats in the Civic are confortable. The M3 seats are narrow and can be uncofortable for some people.
9) M3 has a good acceleration from a stop and the engine produces a pleasant sound. I can't say the same for the Civic with that CVT.
10) M3 has a really quiet cabin.
11) They both have heated streering wheel except for lower trim
12) The Civic handles the rough roads like a king. The M3 with its torsion beam suspension might give you occcasional headaches
13) Very good visibility in the Civic. The M3 has small windows, visibility is fair
@@BobbyR2 I second your comment on the road noise, the Civic is quite noisy actually, as most Hondas. And the Mazda handles twisties nicely even though it has a torsion beam, but the Civic does as well, the advantage I believe is the level of transmission control that the Mazda allows you to have, put it into manual and you can play with fixed ratios, which you can't in the Civic.
We had both, but in the Honda, just had to replace the AC Compressor in Aug, and the older M3's AC is still working fine. I find the seats in the Honda more comfy and the infotainment sys is a breeze to use.
I really wanted to buy the GT AWD for my wife as she loves her Mazda'a but they don't sell them with a manual transmission at least not here in Canada. Its unfortunate as they make a fantastic feeling stick & no rev hang.

Are the back tires tilted in on the Mazda 3? Would you have to replace them after 20,000 miles? Also how long before you have to replace the brakes that are on the new car?

@@erikhaynes5506 I’d be happy to! So by now, I’ve had the car for 9 months. And I’m very pleased to say that it’s still a phenomenal ride in general. Even if I didn't care about the driving experience (it's mostly what I care about) I'd still get the Mazda for the reliability and the looks.

Thanks for comparing these two vehicles! I'm still trying to decide on one. I would certainly have more peace of mind with the Honda, but every time I see any of the new Mazdas on the road, especially in that ruby red, I wish I owned one. They look fantastic. Still, worried around the transmission and long-term reliability.
i advice that you test drive both of them , see which one has a better road noise isolation ! unfortunate Honda cars has road noise level which i gave it 5 out of 10 "may be if tire changed into quality brand like michelin, pirelli also compare the driving comfort between them at the end you can decide .
Mazda and Honda have different styles and goals. Mazda is all about the driving experience, road noise has improved with this generation but tbh I like how my 3rd generation Mazda3 has a little bit of road noise because for me it feels a little more engaging. This current generation Honda Civic is a little bland, I'm sure it's a great car but I'm failing to understand how they went from that iconic last generation styling to the current one, it makes the Civic what people always accused of being back in the day which is noticeably boring and bland.
I have the same dilemma. I have been driving Civic for ten years and with the new model this is the first time I am considering another car. And the new Mazda 3 I the other option. Still unsure about the screen.
I’m surprised that you didn’t talk about the 5 years/unlimited millage warranty of the Mazda vs. 5 years/100000 km of the Civic. It might be a game changer for someone who drive a lot.

Have a automatic Accord now. I'm not a big fan of CVT due to the problems several car companies are having problems with them. I haven't heard of any problems with Honda cars with CVT's but Toyota has had CVT problems with their Corolla. I'll stick with the tried and true automatic transmission which Mazda offers.
Got the Mazda 3 because I live in Utah and it snows. Big deal breaker the Civic doesn't have an AWD option. Honestly though, I'd get the Mazda 3 over anything else I was considering, after getting used to the interface (took about a week) it's so convenient and snappy vs touchscreens I've tried; and on the bonus I never have to worry about greasy fingerprints all over my screen. The AWD took a bit of getting used to on the snow, but now I have full confidence in a snowstorm, something I wasn't able to experience in FWD.
I have a 2016 Mazda3 with an MT, and, one you get used to it, the knob right under your hand is far superior to any touchscreen I've ever used. No reaching up for the screen, no incorrect inputs because of bumps, and no ugly fingerprints. On a manual, at least, the controls are exactly where they need to be.
Mazda for me I own the 2018 Mazda 6 sportnav+ and can honestly say these are the best vehicles Mazda has ever produced.
I actually prefer the console control over touchscreen. While driving and your arm is on the armrest the controller is right there at your fingertips.
I have a 2015 3 hatchback GT and i must say i look forward to driving that car daily.
If you plan on actually using the back seats, don't get the Mazda 3.
Yeah dont get either really
Mazdas in general are cramped. Even the "midsize" CX-9.
If you have small family and generally not a tall person, it would do
I'm a midget, so it's fine for me
I think you did a great job with your review. But I think you should have used the Mazda 3 Premium trim instead of the Premium Plus as that is Mazda's (performance) trim. The Premium Plus i feel is more targeted towards the Si instead of the touring.
You’re absolutely correct but since these are press cars I can’t pick and choose the trims of the vehicles.
Yeah, and then the story of M3 being the driver's car of the two wouldn't make much sense.
The turbo model is actually not even aimed at the civic or other mainstream brands, but actually it’s aimed at the Audi A3 and MB A class
I’m deciding between these 2 cars, I’m not familiar with Mazda. Are they reliable cars over time and low cost maintenance?
My biggest gripe about the previous model year's Civic was the uncomfortable passenger seat. Any progress on that front?
My wife didn’t complain but we only had the vehicle for a week.
In markets without the 3 with the 2.5 turbo, the civic is the better choice overall. I just got the 2020 facelift civic which will a cult favorite
No its not, the only advantage it has is that its bigger inside, thats it.
I drove the Civic Touring, I also drove the Mazda3 2.5NA (and own a Turbo HB), and I have to say, I expected the Turbo Civic to be faster (even if it isn't the point of it), but according to my 0 to 100kmh test, it is about half a second slower than the 2.5NA Mazda3.
But better mpg
I feel like Honda did a brilliant job with the Civic! I reviewed the Euro spec Honda Civic in my channel and it was EPIC! Mazda cars have always been one of the most interesting Japanese cars to drive, but I feel like they don't seem to have a massive public image, it seems like they never expanded or anything. The MX5 is the only Mazda that excited everyone, otherwise other Mazda models are unspoken of!
Greetings from Belgium!
I guess it depends on the conditions in a front wheel drive car on a snow covered road up hill you are dragging your rear up hill but with an awd car that is turbo charged you get more torque and awd ,it doesn't snow much in st.louis but when it does your going to need it
