I'm glad to hear stunt actors recommending researching actual martial arts. I wonder though, why do stunts involving swords like in Game Of Thrones never research anything unlike people are doing for knife fights?
Pc Genie I don't know exactly what is going on in the game of thrones production, since they're fully European (and I'm in the LA industry) but I think it's because they probably don't think it would be practical to teach every incoming stunt person how to fight differently, for battle scenes. It would benefit them to actually design historically accurate styles at least for the main characters.... (The fight between Arya and Bryanne was atrocious and cheesy, in my opinion).. having said that I honestly would love to work on that show! Lol
2:15 I think you might appreciate, I am currently doing research for a cold open for my school's student run news show. Every year we put on a game called "spoon assassins" where each person is given a name and a spoon, and they are tasked with secretly tagging the person with that spoon to "win'. Each year the news show puts on a cold open centering around this game, and I am hoping to pitch (alongside some of my friends from our local dojo) a spoon assassins knife fight scene
Don't know if you guys know it but there is already a short film based on that titled "Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon." Its available on youtube.
+Gina Kessler thank you Gina! Metal file is good.. and I've also recently started shopping at a prop store. Realistic rubber knives aren't too expensive!
i discoverred your chanel now 08:15 am from Spain! hahaha is very good your tutorials! if you know where we can to find good fight sounds! please post! thanks and have a nice day!
Awesome, I can't wait to see it! Please send it my way :D btw in case you didn't know, I just started another daily upload challenge! So feel free to send me any questions! Especially if I can answer them in this format, lol... hope you're doing well!
Thanks bro! We saw, we have a ton of stuff goin on rn were moving i to an apartment so were super busy and busy coordinating two other films as well, so we might if we find the time! Super cool tho man!
Is it any different if you're using swords? My friend and I have a drama eisteddford coming up and we're doing fight choreography with swords in one of our scenes
+Equine Ally yes it is! Get 2 PVC pipes and work out your Choreography that way. I would look at movie sword fights you want to emulate and just build on to of those. Even take the Choreography and just copy the moves, with your own style
Hey Rustic! I made my first fight scene in a comedy video I did, I was wondering if you could check out the fight scenes in it (fight starts around 1:50 I think) I want to make more serious and realistic ones in the future, and I have been watching your fight scene tutorials religiously, but something just isn't sticking. Please let me know what you think and thanks for the great content !
If I wanted to include blood. What would be the best way to go about that? Do I need to use CG or are there ways to do the stunts on camera including blood gashes or stabs and make them look legit?like in the SPL fight scene.
RusticB I would like to have one shot with 3 guys getting stabbed whithout a cutaway. Really just the initial insert and release part, where blood can be seen when the knife goes in and out fast. Are there specific blood squids available out there for things of that nature?
eddie trevizo I think you're best trying to do it with VFX.. action essentials should have something like that... Also, you could have the wounds already made but hidden from camera, then they get turned towards camera as part of the Choreography
not if you go perpendicular.. dull the blade... but honestly, today I wouldn't recommend anyone to do this lol. Everyone should get a prop knife if possible! They're cheap
I have really enjoyed your videos and have an action adventure webseries of my own that I would love if you'd be interested in checking out! Definitely lots of growth to go, but I'd love to hear some critiques.

eddie trevizo it all depends on how you want to trick the audience! Usually people cut to another angle, in which they have already agreed blood
RusticB I would like to have one shot with 3 guys getting stabbed whithout a cutaway. Really just the initial insert and release part, where blood can be seen when the knife goes in and out fast. Are there specific blood squids available out there for things of that nature?
