Wow @Jonny, what an interview! There was so much emotion there. @Mate's description of the Grand Tour C1 crash was such a moment for the company; we never knew any of those details, and are grateful for @Mate's honesty. We only saw an electric vehicle innovator and entrepreneur, but @Mate is clearly an out-and-out petrolhead! I love how he describes the analysis when driving the C2 development car and then the emotion of an ICE car. We are glad that Amazon had good insurance as this demonstrated the crash resilience of the car better than any test rig could. Will I own a Rimac car? No. Will I see a Rimac car? I hope to at a car show at some point. Will I want to see Rimac flourish? Absolutely. If only for the passion, drive and pure emotion of @Mate and the team he has built around himself. This interview is deserving of a TV slot, well done to you @Jonny and the @The Late Brake Show team.
I think most people probably expected a more "straight" interview with Mate trying to "sell" the C2 to the viewers, like most salesmen and CEOs would. However, he's just so open, honest, and likable. This interview is less like an interview, and more like two friends (future best friends, it seems) just talking about cars. Much respect to both of you.
I've got so much more respect for Mate and Rimac as a company now. He's a proper petrolhead in the old sense of the world, but isn't a technology dinosaur, brilliant to see. Inspiring.
What a breath of fresh air! Instead of marketing bull, greenwash, hype, and hyperbole, we get one guy, literally putting everything into a company, and juust making it work. No flashy company cars, no complex deals for employment, just basic common sense, inteligence and passion.
Croatia needs to invest in this company. Prestigious, exciting companies like this are key to preventing brain drain and will hopefully birth even more domestic tech/car companies in the future.

That's what Mate does and I honestly don't get why he gets bothered by haters. But yeah, he and several other companies are starting to shape a nice change in Croatia from an ex communist country to a modern, capitalist one.

And to come up from a childhood without even running water, escape war and to set up a company like Rimac in Croatia and at such a young age. Just.. Mind blown. Johnny, great interview, I'm really impressed.

Went through both episodes in the blink of an eye. You need a follow up Part 3 in the future! This guy is so inspiring, so much grit, balls and humility, and the interviews really painted a clearer picture of how he is as an innovator and a person. Great job Jonny!
Mate is just someone extraordinary, it's difficult to describe him with words! All the things he is doing and is a part of, and how he is conducting them provides us with much to learn, take to heart, and appreciate! As an engineering student myself, the question about your dream place to work is something we are asked often with most mentioning the big names. I never felt I wanted to be a part of any of them as my dream place but I feel so strongly about Rimac, and it's Mate who instills that. If I'm ever enabled enough to work with Mate, I'd choose that over any other because that would be a journey worth pursuing! This were the best 2 videos i have seen in my life! 🤩 i now realise that im just like the boss of rimac! When i was 10 i made my first electric bike from scrap. When i was 15 i put a stereo and neo lights on my piaggo NRG moped. When i was 18 i turbo converted a black bmw e28. I now own an old bmw e36 with the m52 engine, not for performance but more for the sound and soul of it. Thats just some things! I can relate to EVERY thing he said, this gives me so much energy. I just loved this! THANKS FOR ALL THE THINGS YOU GUYS DO! 👍⚡😀
I think it's awesome that Mate can be the person that directs the company with all his drive and passion. It's not easy to have a company succeed and have the boss remain very much about the product and not just the business. Very open about the tougher times and it is very endearing and a great insight in the behind the scenes. It's funny how much you can tell about a person just perusing the cars he owns or even wants to own. Cheers Jonny, great second part. As I'm concerned well worth the awful experience at the airport though you may not agree ;)
Another superb interview. The car world is in safe hands for sure and what a decent, honest bloke in Mate Rimac. You were spot on earlier when you said there is a place for piston engines as well as EVs and Mate Rimac captures that. Exceptional work, thank you.
Massive thanks, Jonny! This was wonderful, insightful, emotional, touching, extensive and so incredibly inspiring! Big thanks to Mate too for sharing and being so open and honest. I was tearing up when Mate was talked about the time he almost had to run for his life and then the crash. Wanted to just come here and tell Mate that I'll always be rooting for him and his company and wish he's successful in accomplishing all his chapters, while having a lot of fun doing it! I love you man! Sad you have to face all that negativity in your home country. You'll win them over in time. For sure. Cheers, love and luck.
This was truly an incredible interview Jonny, it seems like you just met your automotive soulmate! 🙂 It would be awesome if all the brands with Rimac components would donate an example to the Campus, for all visitors to appreciate the incredible technology and passion within. I also think that Mate and his team deserve to drive some of the incredible automobiles that they helped to develop.
I was blown away by the honesty and humanity of the interview - very refreshing in these days where everything is calculated and hyped. May Mate and Rimac grow from strenght to strength. Well done Johnny
Jonny your interview style is so relaxing and the way you let Mate actually say what he wants to say rather than butting in and throwing his train of thought, I knew the Grand Tour was a big hit in the moment but I didn't know it came close to ending them. I am glad the interviews and the show turned in to a positive, I hope the fact that Nico Rosberg has purchased a C2 takes them to another level. I was also shocked thet Mate didn't have his own C1 or C2
Wow 😯, I’ve not seen anything else about Rimac from the motoring press ever before. Those two episodes capture an amazing character whose company deserves to be even more significant than Tesla. Well done Jonny for an amazing set of professional programmes that illustrate so well this man's company. I wish him well! But I hope he can also break through to provide an affordable EV that we would all want to own some day.
This was incredibly good, arguably way too short too! Best interview of Mate. You got to love this man (and team!), a true exemple of talent and dedication. Well done sirs.
Brilliant, humble, honest, frugal, personable, the positive character of Mate just shines. No wonder he is such a success at such an early age. Well deserved. Fantastic, natural and smooth interview Jonny - you are quite a pro! =)
Oh I love that Z4. We were in Lanzarotte in 2001 up a mountain in a corsa rental and they pulled up behind me in this Z4 as part of a secret video shoot pre reveal. I managed to speak to the test driver and crew and was shown around the car (no photos allowed) with my 1 yr old son who was hugging the car. Still love it today.
What a genuinely nice guy! Humble and interesting. Another fantastic interview Jonny! Listening to him over part one and two, tell his story and his roots was great, I have huge respect for Mate, I watched the interview with Hammond and Mate, after watching part one, it struck me then that their were no hard feelings between them. Lets me honest, if you walk away from a crash like that (albeit with a broken leg) it’s testament to the cars design. I look forward to seeing what else is in the pipe line for Rimac now. Thanks for the great content, keep it going :)
Thankyou Mate for spending so much time on this conversation - very revealing and inspiring - its funny, as an architect ( and son of one too) I know that (most of us) we work on all sorts of high end stuff for clients but live in small unfinished homes....
Well part two was just as good as the first, if not slightly be better with regards the cars. That M5 is a very interesting spec for a daily driver. Mate Rimac should be very proud of himself for what he's achieved by his early 30s. How anyone can hate on him or the company is beyond me. Brilliant from TLBS once again. Keep going Jonny and don't let lost passports try to stop you. 😁👍🏻
What a grounded guy, amazing to watch this now at the early stages of his career - imagine being able to have such an in-depth interview with those who have influenced the automative industry. You won't find this content on Williams Lyons, Enzo Ferrari, Henry Ford, W O Bently, Ferruccio Lamborghini etc. and we get to enjoy such a snapshot of his drive and vision
Mate, Gordon Murray and Chris Harris interviews are just wonderful content. Car nuts interviewed by a warm and genuine car perv that truly understands what makes them tick. Understanding their drivers but not necessarily agreeing and placating them but channeling an in-depth understanding. Honestly this is just a pleasure to watch. Thank you LBS team, can't wait for the next one. That Mate fella mind, he's the sort of passionate loon I'd want to work for. What's Croatia like to live in?
Great 2 parter...wish there was pt3. I love fact he’s about the cars/technology and not slapping on some enviro stuff and correctly saying many other easier ways to improve the environment. Also the obvious links and bonds between you both came across with similar loved and passions. Great stuff. TVs loss...good job Jonny
It makes me so happy that he is such a car guy. A lot of other people on the EV scene are not car guys, they are tech guys. But Mate is such an out and out car guy and wears his emotions about cars on his sleeve.
I think you are excellent interviewer and the fact Mate shared well above his standard "roots" story, tells you found the right format for your channel. Well done!
Hi there Mate you keep astonishing me with your way of doing things. And I am seeing a humble man who has achieved so much only because you are not blowing your money on silly stuff and it is easy to see that this is your passion. And I was never in doubt about that. As we meet in Bergen many years ago with your Project one. And already back then I remember you talking about what you see as the future when it comes to cars and how we will travel in the future. Back then I thought shhh neeehhh never going to happen. But if we look at the world today not that far in the future from where we meet that one time. The world is starting to evolve into your vision. And I believe it will do more and more so in the near future. And for The Late Brake Show thank you very much for this interview. Keep up the good work.

" Chapter 1" has not been too bad, looking forward to his chapter 2 . Fantastic interview . Cheers Jonny
Ponosni na tebe! Ignoriraj hatere, nisu vrijedni paznje! Samo hrabro!
The best Idol Chat so far. You’re going to struggle to top these two
This was truly an incredible interview Jonny, it seems like you just met your automotive soulmate!
Jonny your interview style is so relaxing and the way you let Mate actually say what he wants to say rather than butting in and throwing his train of thought,
I knew the Grand Tour was a big hit in the moment but I didn't know it came close to ending them. I am glad the interviews and the show turned in to a positive, I hope the fact that Nico Rosberg has purchased a C2 takes them to another level. I was also shocked thet Mate didn't have his own C1 or C2
Seems like a genuine guy. Was a good watch.
A fantastic interview, and what a lovely down to earth guy. He deserves all the success that’s undoubtedly coming his way.
What a legend! I think this interview will end up in the history books👍
What a lovely genuine guy. Two mates chatting... loved it! 👍👍
Great interview series - That was excellent!
24 min full of passion. The world needs more people like them. Well done guys you are stars.
What a guy. Fascinating chat, seems like you could’ve talked a lot more. Amazing story he has to tell...
If Mate was British, he should be knighted. Such a down to earth, honest man
Thank you very much for this excellent interview👍🏻
Thank you for this. What a nice bloke. His BMW collection is fantastic. A true car guy. Wish him nothing but success.
This is the best interview from this channel yet Johnny, and first long form interview I’ve ever watch with Mate. Amazing work!
What an insanely executed interview. You can see that great interviews happen when two passionate people meet.
Thankyou Mate for spending so much time on this conversation - very revealing and inspiring - its funny, as an architect ( and son of one too) I know that (most of us) we work on all sorts of high end stuff for clients but live in small unfinished homes....
Just finished the first part and second one magically appears
Well part two was just as good as the first, if not slightly be better with regards the cars. That M5 is a very interesting spec for a daily driver. Mate Rimac should be very proud of himself for what he's achieved by his early 30s. How anyone can hate on him or the company is beyond me. Brilliant from TLBS once again. Keep going Jonny and don't let lost passports try to stop you. 😁👍🏻
What a nice change banging interview with Mate,Thankyou Jonny.
So freaking good. You are such an incredible host Jonny! It's cool seeing you be able to connect with so many people on a personal level!
What really nice down to earth guy he is. I have nothing but total respect for mate and his team. A great interview Johnny thanks.
What a great interview and, hats off to Mate Rimac, what a brilliant man. I can only wish him and his team every success.
It makes me so happy that he is such a car guy. A lot of other people on the EV scene are not car guys, they are tech guys. But Mate is such an out and out car guy and wears his emotions about cars on his sleeve.
Agree.
I've been poised, POISED, waiting for this.
me too!!
Great job!
Mate seems to be very passionate, yet controlled.
My eyes was in tears. And I am a big boy. Fascinating.
Great video Johnny. Congratulations to Mate for his tenacity and drive, also his down to earth attitude to his company. What an inspirational man 👏👏👏
Thanks Jonny, you have a great knack of making it both entertaining and informative.
Such a brilliant, down to earth hard working man who's going to change to world
I think you are excellent interviewer and the fact Mate shared well above his standard "roots" story, tells you found the right format for your channel.
Jonny, you are amazing, your interveiw skills, your question style is one of the best I have ever seen, Thank you for bringing Mate Rimac to us.
"What about Richard Hammond's crash" lol that look into the camera was class.
I thought the same 👍🤣
What a fascinating man. Johnny does seem to get the honest, non PR opinions out of people. Really really excellent videos. Rimac are fun 😎👌👌👌
Great stuff Jonny. Loved listening to Mate, he's the sort of guy the car industry needs. He's a petrolhead, but understands that some things need to change and move forward. Interesting guy, I'll certainly be paying more attention to Rimac now.
When I will have the money I will buy one of his car, and would definitely want to meet him! He will kill it! More than Tesla for sure, what a guy 🙏🏼
