    STORY
Step into the sun-soaked countryside of southern France and behold a house that conceals a mesmerizing tale. Once belonging to David and Marie Louise, a passionate French couple, this captivating abode carries a story interwoven with enchantment and antiquities.
Marie Louise, inheriting the house from her grape-growing ancestors, encountered a turning point when she met David. Their shared obsession with collecting and trading antiques breathed life into the walls of their home, each item holding a tale from times long past.
Yet, in 1997, David's chapter came to a close, leaving behind a legacy of precious belongings that ignited Marie Louise's fervor. The house transformed into a labyrinth of captivating artifacts, each piece bearing the weight of memories and emotions.
As the years passed, family visits became more complex as disputes over the division of belongings arose, causing fractures in the once-harmonious bond. In 2006, Marie Louise's spirit departed, leaving behind a legend of the most endearing grandmother.
Venture with us on a journey of exploration as we unravel the extraordinary tales of David and Marie Louise. Delve into the heart of southern France and discover the allure of antiquities that once filled this house. Witness the passion that transcended time and feel the magic that still lingers within these storied walls.
Are you ready to experience the captivating world of David and Marie Louise's mythical abode?

I like that you take an interest in the people who inhabited these abandoned places. It distinguishes you from other explorers of abandoned houses because the respect you show for them, their lives and their memories is always present.

Hi Lesley, I have a friend living in France, I was talking to her about abandoned homes in France, she said Inheritance Tax is so exorbitant, that remaining family members choose to leave homes abandoned rather than paying the tax.

The round pans with long handles that you often see are not ash collectors, they are actually bed warmers, they were filled with embers and placed between blankets to warm the beds of the upper class that inhabit the homes!! Love to watch your respectful investigations!

My dad bought a house before him and mama married in 1967. He was the only owner, and now my sister (54) lives there. Sadly he passed from Alzheimer’s 10 years ago. Lots and lots of memories. Shag carpeting as far as the eye could see ( my sister has since put in hardwood) I never thought of it as “back in time” I mean no disrespect, it just sounds odd for me with some describing words. It really isn’t that long ago, but I suppose the reason is Abandonment ( an abandoned home )💜I love your channel , so I’m not trying to be rude 💜

honestly, i'm only 37, but i reflect on these videos every time i consider a purchase. "does this object mean anything to anyone other than me?" "am i growing a mess for someone else to clean up later?" ....it doesn't stop me from collecting my favorite things, but it stops me from making more frivolous purchases.

It's true, that there is so much you cannot possibly see it all. It's hard to see how she moved in the house without bumping into her things. Although there are some lovely things. But I think when she shut the store it cost too much for storage for that much. Storage fees go into the thousands in about 10 years. Another great video. And thank you for being such a kind host. You are so respectful and this world needs more like you. You are a joy in personality and integrity. 🌷

I can’t understand family members fighting over a place for so long that in the end there will ultimately be nothing left of it anymore. I hope collecting gave her the comfort she was looking for🙏, if so that is all that matters. No one understands and there should be no judgement of her.

It’s so sad to see how the relatives alive doesn’t value the effort of their ancestors to achieve not just material things, a house that once was a roof over their heads and be safe, make a home etc. Cleaning a bit is not harmful, mental health in the elderly is super important.
Watching a lot of videos of them, leave me thinkig if it’s worthy to keep a lot of things if you are alone, they will end like that or just in the garbage 😢

    • @fallonbea

I agree, although we don’t know the circumstances of many the family’s but in this case it appears to be greed. I like beautiful thing’s to enjoy while I’m on this earth. So different than a hoarding situation which is hard for me to understand but it is a sickness in my opinion. I just don’t think living along should stop anyone from having what they find beautiful around them. I don’t intend to take it with me and where it goes after me won’t be of concern.

I am one of 7 girls and one boy and sadly must admit that there were 2 of my sisters who pitched a fit over things. My sister and I refused to engage in any of it because we knew how my sweet, kind little mom would have been so sad and disappointed. My mom insisted I take things she wanted me to have before she passed. I thought it was silly at the time, but now I think she just knew her time was short. She was always so busy and so vibrant, I didn’t see it coming at all.

    • @swgl2245

That's sad you had to go through that with your sisters. I can't imagine fighting over belongings. When my parents go I don't want anything, it'll only add clutter and wouldn't even want their house, my little brother can have it, he was always the favored one my mom mentioned he would keep the house. I'm 52 now and don't need an extra responsibility to maintain a house.

  • @kieribama
    @kieribama 11 місяців тому +8

Thankfully when my mother passed, it was just myself and my sister. We divided everything fairly. If we both wanted something, we wrote it down and put it on a piece of paper, folded the paper and put it on a bowl. Then we took turns drawing the folded papers from the bowl. We sold the house and then split that evenly. My sister kept our mothers car due to the fact she did most of the work to sell the house since I lived 1000 miles away. This was back in 2001 and she still has my mother's car since it was new when my mother bought it and my mother rarely drove far, so it had very low mileage. People shouldn't fight over these silly things, now that they had to have the courts involved, that house is unfortunately going to have to be demolished eventually and everything inside will most likely just be left inside when and if it's demolished since everything is already beyond saving. Such a shame.

Odd, but I appreciated the walkout basement the most. I like seeing the "roots" of the construction and the utility of the long term storage shelves so easily accessed without dark scary descending steps. I like seeing the beams and the bottom of floor boards, the skeleton of the home. The skill of the stone masons and the careful placement of the brick quoins that make the house look like a crayon drawing with thick, deep red outlining is always impressive.

I feel like i will be exactly like this when i get old bc i just love collecting antiques so much, most specially plates and teacups and she had so many of those. Why were things back then so beautifully designed? like they really care about the details and colors and all. Now everything's centered on ''minimalism'' but i really think it's just an excuse for either laziness or lack of creativity. Gosh her house must be so pretty back then when it was well taken care of. It's sad none of her children or grandkids bothered to preserve or appreciate her collections. I would have picked the best ones (if not all) and made sure it continues to live and be admired in my home, just how she want it.

Greetings brother Lesley! Another well documented video on these sad abandoned family homes especially when it comes to death of parents. I have been there and how correct you are about elderly hoarding once loved one pass. We must remember that things in this life remains here but our faith is eternal if we truly believe in Christ alone. God bless my friend.

Hi, I really enjoy this video, the house is so charming, just really sad how everything is decayed .Probably those antiques have a lot of values. I'm surprised that the house still keep all the cluttler throuhgout all this years.Thank you for a wonderful episode.

      Are you for freaking real?
So you find it "respectful" to trespass on private property and film and publish the video to make money?

Bendiciones!!!!

Your in one of my favorite places to visit, I come there several times a year and can't get enough.
I've watched your videos for quite a long time, as time goes by you just get better and better.
God bless and take care of you and your brother as you travel!
    Cheers from sunny South Florida!
    💖
Edit; The only thing that upsets me is some of these beautiful pieces should be taken out so that other people may enjoy them before the earth reclaims them. I know if I passed and my children left what they didn't want..I'd love for someone to take these things that I bought and loved..take them home and bring them back to life. I realise some things are held up in court systems. But nevertheless it makes me so sad these precious items will never be used again. 😢

    - How much history in each object, it's fascinating. But one thing is for sure, we don't own anything, one hour we leave everything behind and leave...
