Thanks, this was very informative. I've heard of using brass shims before, but it's one thing to hear about them and quite another to actually see it being done.
Glad it was helpful!
I love that you're doing some how-to videos Roy. This was really helpful-- thanks!
Super smart method. Extremely helpful. I have a tight Rotring pen that I've had issues with for a while that I will try this technique with to see if I can't improve the ink flow. Great video!
Best explanation of the process I've seen, and I've seen many videos on this topic. Thanks!
THANK YOU for this. I'm shimming the hell out of my Visconti and I'm seeing improvement, trying to be patient as you advise. Already feel super empowered. Much appreciated.
Dude, that was a righteous video. Makes so much sense. No more crushing the tines. I am gonna try that. Thanks
Thanks for this. I have an old flex nib that over lap the tines. I like this method for fixing it much better than just pressing down on them
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much that worked quite well!
Very helpful. Thank you.
Coolness. I like this method. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting right back at ya!
Just what I needed! I have a few pens I would like to adjust.
Nice method, thanks Roy 👍
Thanks Paul! and thanks for binging my podcast! I hope youre still enjoying it.
@@PenBoyRoy for sure think I'm on 20 something by now 👍 definitely just feels like hanging out with old friends
Great video man~!
I have never used brass shims like that and it is brilliant~!
I accidentally do smart things often, and often do dumb things on purpose. Its the recipe for creativity.
Hahahahahahha I love it @@PenBoyRoy
Thanks for this! Your clip gave me the courage to lightly adjust my Lamys (one Safari: dry writer, one gold nib: misaligned); now they both seem ok.
Question: could i ask what is the magnification of the loupe you're using, pls? I have one, supposedly 45x, but i'm not sure if it's bumping up my view of the tines/nib tip enough (or maybe i just need to note the details better).
thanks for this
You bet!
Thanks. What's the thickness of the shims? I don't want to order the wrong stuff - or wreck nibs!
In my attempts over the years, I've created a "grand canyon" effect in the tines. Do you have a remedy for this? Thanks
Like sands through the hourglass, so are “The Tips of Our Tines” 😉
Awesome informative video. I have some pens with bent tines will definitely try this on them. Btw what is your favorite pen? Parker?
Lol! Good one!
Nice
I’ll floss some micron paper through the tines and that typically takes off just enough material to make it flow better.
Great!
Thanks!
Thanks !👍🏽✒️🤓🖋
My pleasure!!
@penboyroy That's an interesting magnifying glass that you are using
I like it. It was like... $10 or something.
This video needs a PG rating, especially when only listening to it 😉 Thanks for the tip 👍
Wow. I thought I would have qualified for at least PG-13
Please share shim thickness.
Sacrificial lamb, lab subject, Conklin nib... ;D
haha!
What’s the thickness of the brass shim? I’ve seen 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mm online, and I don’t really know which one to buy.
.002
@@PenBoyRoy Many thanks
Hi Jorge, I have seen another youtube channel use spark plugs metal filler guage to open the tine.
Creative and you know how thick the metal is.
0.2 lol 🤭
I think I opened up my TWSBI ECO Medium Nib a little too much. It’s really wet
You gotta be careful and work in super small increments.
@@PenBoyRoy I can get a replacement Nib right? Like the same TWSBI one
@@magnoliamike
Hi Mike , Mr Brown from Goulet pens just made a video where he bought a twsbi mini nib unit and place it into twsbi eco..
then I read in the comments that the twsbi (eco , go and mini ) nibs are interchangable..
Anyone help me here? My Lamy 2000 rolled of my desk and landed nib down on my hard classroom floor! I tried the first method shown on the video but to no avail! It now looks like a golden beak and it does not work properly! I was loving this pen - UA-camrs please help!
get a pair of pliers, cover the metal with sellotape (3-4 layers) and pull them together. there is a video about it and it worked for me.
@@busysleepin thank you.
Your vids rule.
Where do you get your nib tuning items?
Your comments rule.
I get my tuning stuff from hardware stores and amazon
You can also get the brass shims from GOULET PEN, PEN CHALET. Magnifying glass from Goulet pen too. A lot of online fountain pen websites have them. Amazon too but their customer service people are not fountain pen knowledgeable if you have questions compared to online fountain pen stores
says that there's 1 comment but I see zero comments... after I leave mine it should say two
nope all good = )
@@truereal8158 I get alot of spam it seems. its usually some weird website or something. Glad I can see this
@@PenBoyRoy Dude me too~!
It's usually random accounts with like three lines that look like:
LameUserName
time stamp
von . in . net
it's so annoying
I totally asked for a 30 MINUTE of puting shine ✨ brassssssss!😡🙄
Cool, thanks for the video.... I know it's old, but man, get your self checked out nails. I can tell a lot about your health, and brown nails are one indicator used in the medical field for cancer identifying. And other underlying health conditions !!!
