Hong Kong has long had a reputation as a “food paradise”, but Muslim residents and visitors who adhere to a strict halal diet only have access to a fraction of what the city has to offer. Of the city’s 13,000 licensed restaurants, only 106 were halal-certified as of April 2024, according to a list compiled by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The city has been trying to draw tourists back after several years of pandemic downturn. However, visitor numbers from predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East and Asia are lower than arrivals from other areas. Tourism officials and industry analysts say a lack of halal-certified establishments is part of why Hong Kong remains off the itinerary for many Muslim travellers.

Muslims are around 2 billion, 1/4 of the world. It makes alot of sense to get it certified to tap into that huge market.
its better to tap the 3/4 of the world than to focus on the 1/4 population. I would be really mad if they get rid of pork from dimsum.

Bruh even Mainland China has a Halal certification system...
Bruh Hong Kong have never been muslim infested the country until recently
Mainland China has a big local Muslim population: 50-100mil+ Muslims from the Muslim Belt : Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai & Xinjang. Yunnan, Xi’an, Tianjin & Beijing has Muslims for over 1,000 years. Muslims from these areas continuously replenish the important cities with Muslims & Halal eateries

Islamic law mandates the humane treatment of animals, ensuring they are well cared for, fed a natural diet, and free from hormones and antibiotics.

Pork is considered impure. If pork is fried in some oil and halal food is fried in the same utensil later on without washing it thoroughly, the food will not be considered halal since the pork has contaminated the utensil. Same for Alcohol. Plus the meat of permissible animal, not slaughtered properly in Islamic way is also not Halal. It is a complex process and needs not to be accomodative. The guidelines are rigid and they must be followed as they are meant to be

Without cooking wine in the dishes, it is not authentic and not original. Even some stir-fried vegetables (especially Chinese broccoli with prawns) is not the same without a dash of Hsiao Hsing cooking wine. Sorry but I’m against eateries selling out and becoming halal if their menu comprises of haram ingredients. They usually compromise on the taste and quality and it effectively changes the dish, some brands in my country have done that and sadly it has drastically compromised the entire menu that I just stop eating there because the it’s just not the same anymore (taste and quality wise). I’m not against halal or Muslim, but I’m against restaurants making $ off of this. Make 2 arms of the brand; halal and non-halal but they wouldn’t do it because it’s not profitable.
Im for inclusivity but at this point I feel that we have to bend over so much and it is not fair when we did not choose to live with such practice integrated into our lives. At this point I might as well just convert and the entire world should just be 1 religion 😊
Cope. We are the future and there's nothing you can do.
You don't get the whole idea. Omitting alcohol won't compromise the taste as you can drink alcohol separately

Malaysian, Singaporean and some Indonesian Muslims are very particular about halal certification, due to the cross contamination concerns. I wonder how it would be viable to have michelin style cantonese restaurants serving serving a "halal" menu in the same premise. It would be very difficult to certify as such. They could try a halal only restaurant. Think of DIN by din tai fung, or locally in Singapore, Andes by Astons.
The only issue is that you will lose many local non muslim patrons. Here in Singapore, I don't prioritise halal certified restaurants serving more expensive, mediocre tasting chinese cuisine, unless my malay colleague has to. Unfortunately, pork and lard really enhance the flavour of southern chinese cuisine.
Could beef fat and aged beef able to mimic a bit the taste tho?
Because people like to try Chinese cuisine but cannot because contain ingredients that they unable to eat for whatever reason,
