- "Edgerrin James: A Football Life" - an NFL Films-produced profile of the Pro Football Hall of Fame former Colts running back - premiered on NFL Network Friday, Nov. 18 at 9 p.m. ET.
Over the hour-long program, you'll hear from James and a star-studded cast of former teammates and some of the biggest names in football, including:
Jim Irsay: "He's the only player that's ever received a Super Bowl ring that wasn't on the roster, and that's because he meant so much to us."
Peyton Manning: "He wanted to be more than just a running back. He took pride in his pass protections, and who to block. I say this over and over again: he was the best teammate that I ever had, and at the end of the day I don't know if you can pay someone a bigger compliment."
Reggie Wayne: "He is Miami. I think his legacy here is everything. If there was a Mount Rushmore of this place, his head would be one of the heads that is on there."
Tony Dungy: "In '04 and '05 he did everything. That's what was special to me about him. Yes 1,500 yards, yes all these catches and all these touchdowns. But that attitude of whatever it takes for us to win, I'm going to do it."
Trick Daddy: "Go back and watch some of the film and see why EJ is one of the best running backs ever to play in high school, college and the NFL."
James: "The best thing is that you get to re-live your life through them and the mistakes or the obstacles or the situations that occur, you have an answer for. You are their Superman. I've always embraced that challenge."
Others interviewed for the program include James' mother, Julie, Bill Polian, Marvin Harrison, Kurt Warner, and Larry Fitzgerald, among others. You'll hear James' story from a rough upbringing to his standout career at the University of Miami, to his remarkable time with the Colts, to leading the Arizona Cardinals to a Super Bowl appearance, and how he handled the public perception of his personality and appearance throughout his Hall of Fame career.

I had never heard Edgerrin say two words. When Marvin Harrison is helping narrate your story, you know you're quiet. LOL...From what I can tell Edgerrin was a man of action...what a groovy brother...what a wonderful type of teammate to have.
He was a one hell of a back. He consistently put up 1200 rushing yards and 12+ touchdowns in a mostly passing offense. It was a great time to be a colts fan
✊🏾 #5 #32 🏈
Took the cards to the bowl he was huge that playoff run just watch key run an key block after block just so clutch 3rd down was his time
@@nickshearer3091those Peyton Manning led offenses of the 2000s were among the greatest of all time!
Growing up the way they used to portray him in magazines and TV was as if he was thugged out like Pac Man Jones. This dude was wholesome as hell.
No they didn’t… he was always known to be quite..
I'm a 2000 baby. Being a literal kid yes that's how they made it seem. They made him seem like some quiet thug @@guccimane3731
22 years ago, dude actually rehabbed a torn acl all by himself. That's honestly one of the craziest things I've beard.
Honestly should be a documentary in itself when I heard that I was shocked. Now a days a player will put up half a million atleast to be able to come back and just be a fraction of the player they were, he came back and got to reach the Super Bowl, crazy.
Forgotten legend
Watching this before it’s taken down
I've seen nearly all episodes of A Football Life. So many good ones. This one is among the top episodes and stores.
I’m 37 years old I grew up in Indianapolis, I’m really glad that everyone got to see with this football life what I got to see when he played for the Colts
Those 2000s Colts offenses were among the greatest of all time!
" It's too hard being someone else " There's a man of integrity!!
Edge is one of my favorite football players, he dont talk much, but he was raised right!!! The Colt showed so much class to get a ring for Edge even when he left the team, that says alot about an organization.
Now we need a Marvin Harrison: A Football Life lol
Marvin Harrison was a hardcore G!!!
I remember seeing Edgerrin James signing the most autographs out of all the players, outside the locker room at the old Veteran Stadium in Philadelphia in 1999. He even signed one more while on the steps of the bus. But...he was in a good mood that afternoon, because he scored 3TDs and had 199 total yards in a 44-17 blowout win against the Eagles.
LEGENDgerrin James… what a beautiful Football Life, this one was humble and down to earth. What a great back but even a better person what was the exact opposite of what his cover presented.
The greatest workhorse running back of all time.Durable, dependable and gave 100% all the time I'm glad he's living the good life he earned it 10 times over.
The man is a very special person. Great athlete. But even a better man, Father, son, and friend. I wish him and his family and friends. Good Health, prosperity, and Happiness. God Bless you Mr James 🙏 Keep being who you are.
One of the most Underrated Legend, Humble Man, never let money change him the way he look and play his game his way unselfish. I'm glad I watch Football in 2000's special for Running Back's back then. Thank you Edgerrin James. Just wish he won one or two as A Colt and Cardinal.
AWESOME
Edge was an absolute demon during his time with Indy. But can we talk about the insane amount of talent that the university of Miami had at the rb position from 96-04? Like you had edge, Portis, mcgahee, and gore. For those 8-9 years, you basically had a legit NFL running back who would gain at least 8000 yds in the NFL. Two of whom are or will be HoFers (edge and gore) and two who if they had a bit more longevity probably could’ve made a HoF case.
As a lifelong Indianapolis resident, and Colts fan with blue blood in my veins, I approve this message. 👍👍
I still got his espn magazine real n raw with the dreds n golds🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Thanks for posting!!
Thank you!!!
This series are so good. Never knew any of this about EJ. I am a fan for life now
Edge Hall of Fame speech is one of the best speeches I ever heard..
This man was the truth !!!!!!!!!!May her soul be bless ,This is one of my favorite U player over .
What a great running back.and a nice person to go though what he did help kids out.
I was 9 when we drafted Edge. Other than Peyton he will always be my favorite player.
The older people here didn't really know what to make of him at first. But the longer he was here and the more we got to know him, the more we loved him. He's an amazing person and a legend here.
Colts also won a Super Bowl in 1971 while they were in Baltimore
I like to separate Baltimore Colts from Indianapolis Colts personally… now as a Colts fan I’d definitely love to claim we’ve won 2 SBs but it just feels phony to claim that Baltimore SB win for my Indianapolis Colts, does that make any sense? Lol
@@Austin.Kilgorewhat??? WHY??? makes no sense at all, Its the Colts franchise! they had the same helmets, same uniforms!! 😢
Wow,you have to view EJ differently after this.Such an inspiring dude and a legend
Yes. It’s possible. Thank you Edgerrin James. Amen.
Damn loved every second of it
Ive watched him play one of the great running backs but after watching this he was a hall of fame father son friend brother amazing
Edgerrin James was my boy he carry that ball hard 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
I grew up in Naples FL went to Lely High School the older football players always talk about how GREAT he played. Immokalee vs Lely is ALWAYS a Big Game
One word. Consistency. I think he had 8 seasons with at least 1200 yards rushing and 12+ touchdowns. In a passing offense with a hall of fame qb and two hall of fame wide outs lol man I didn't know how good we had it as colts fans back then.
Those 2000s Colts offenses were among the greatest of all time!
Edgerrin is an amazing man
I watched him on tv against ucla run for 300 yards it was one of the most dominant games ive ever seen
That was my introduction to edge❤❤
Rare discipline he stayed down fr
Great story
I have never heard a player say what Edge said after he left the Colts. Most players would be bitter but he figured out that the Colts could not keep everyone and he was the odd man out. However, his humility is amazing. What he said about helping Addai I can't ever recall a player that left a team say that. They were the best team in the NFL during 2005. I would have been upset if that was me and that is the sad history of the NFL salary cap. It breaks teams up and kills relationships between players and organizations. However, not with Edge and the Colts.
The only thing I hate was Edge wasn’t on that Colts SuperBowl team
Yeah that definitely sucks… but good on Irsay for still giving him a ring regardless
Same. Loved him as a back. Just an amazing back.
Edgerrin James played ball like a champion
Manning’s turnovers against the patriots in the playoffs were the only thing that stood in the way of the colts and their championship chances in 03 & 04
Manning was a choker in the early 2000s
can't help but say...WHAT A GREAT GUY! AND PLAYER!
The instrumental is crazzzzzyyyy. Perfect fit for this segment!
Anything that has to do with Miami trick daddy always there!! Great episode!!
Mannnnn.. tears of pride
They got the yacht wrong....Rohan Marley is the actor, and Montana is the former LB
He good dude
What a great man God bless Edge
As a Dolphins fan used to dread playing this dude. Was happy when they left the afc east.
It's one of one, like me - Edgerin James
N my eyes and my opinion the best RB ever..I'm jus say'n
Close to it and that a fact.
Edge was nice no weakness in his game could run catch block
edge is the man
E James was a damn work horse baby!!!! Bro could easily line up like a damn receiver and burn yo ass! I'm proud I got to watch EJ on Sundays!
Easily one of the most underrated RBs ever! I was pissed when my colts drafted him over Ricky
But he was a better fit. A key player on those prolific 2000s Colts offenses!
Y'all Dodge A bullet look how Ricky NFL career was
My 2nd favorite rb ever. Great man more importantly 💯💯💪🏿💪🏿
Who’s your first? Jw
I finally got to hear Marvin Harrison speak! Off my bucket list.
Nah but really Edge never fell back. Even when hit in the backfield, he'd find a way to fall forward for at least 3-4 yards. He left money on the table by not conforming. Looking back on it, I appreciate his authenticity.
Naples here...shout out Immokalee!!!
The only thing that sucks is that he retired without ever winning a Super Bowl.
Legend
Respect
Salute to the Edge ✌🏾
I always think of those colts teams, I think of manning James and or Harrison
My 4 favorite offensive players were Michael Vick, Edge James, Ocho Cinco, and Terrell Owens. Defense was Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Pat Tillman, Bryan Dawkins, and Rodney Harrison
Still crazy to think how the Rams traded the first round pick for Marshall Faulk in which the Colts used to draft James which means the Colts drafted 2 Hall of Fame running backs back to back remarkable
SOLID✊🏿
Who’s the better UM Running back who was in the NFL. 🏈 E. James, Portis, Gore, McGahee???
Feel good story!
Good dude
🎉
Very underrated due to playing with Peyton in that pass first offense. He was a dog at The U in that three headed monster of a backfield. Never will be anorher backfield that deep again. Arkansas probably the second best backfield with DMC, Peyton Hillis, and Felix Jones. Then you always got the Alabama backfield almost every year full of 5-star ranked recruited backs. So let me take back that statement there could be another backfield as deep as the U was but theyre one in a million
HE meant " SO MUCH " to the organization...however ~
he was a beast with payton maning starvin marvin harriason reggie wayne they was a team back in the day when football was good quick player the pats owned use
Those 2000s Colts offenses were among the greatest!
One more year as a Colt and he would’ve had a championship ring on his resume.
HOW DID HE GET INTO THE HOF BEFORE EDDIE GEORGE NO CAP
Eddie George had no where close to 12k yards rushing EG barely avg 4.0 per attempt
Eazy Jeezy 🔥
#Legend
Real deal FLAWDA BOI !!!!
That boy bad...meaning good.
Wheres Brendon rice , he deserves to play , we need him
Drop more football life videos please
Enjoy it while it's free you bum
Colts were too real for giving him a ring anyway
Thats why Bill Polian is a Hall of Fame GM
Do Brian Urlacher
Edge wats going on with you we don't know each other personally
Where’s the instrumental from at 1:20
Just think if colts would've drafted Williams instead,or leaf instead of manning polian is a genius GoColts Forever
Can you do the Edelman one ? Thank you.
Murderin' Marvin Harrison talking about people havin' the wrong impression is funny! Why do you have him on this>. What about Dwight Dixon and his family?
You never did nada for the Mexicans in the I we always love you
HE meant " SO MUCH " to the organization...however ~ HE didn't mean enough
the egde was the guyyyy
He the shit
👍
I mean, if Trick Daddy says so...... It's pretty much dictionary
Post julian edelman
🧭

Dats fucked up dey fucked ova 2 black men at 1s Steelers got rid of santonio Holmes after da game winning catch n bro did all this n lost in dat same game is crazy
I made it about 12 minutes and couldn't watch anymore... this guy's a tweener Hall-of-Famer and everyone talking like he's freaking Jim Brown...... 😢
One of 7 RBs with 3+ seasons of 2k yards from scrimmage.
Facts@@lnss8775
He put up numbers and blocked and caught passes he was the truth real work horse 🐎
