Great interview and so was Paul’s. Two very different personalities that work and work well. They brought us entertainment based concerts and the hair band. Wannabe purists tend to talk down about KISS and their music abilities. KISS’ priority was a show, party and a good time. I found the podcast over the summer and gradually going back to earlier interviews. Thank you Howie for your mental health awareness. I’ve dealt with OCD for almost 30 years.
Paul once said if songs don't rhyme, they're not real songs. Neil Finn is one of my favorite songwriters of all time. He has quite a few that don't rhyme.
Mr. Gene Simmons is a person I could listen to all day. Even if he's talking nonsense he turns it around and makes the conversation interesting. He has a tremendous command of the English language.
The Richard Simmons reference had me rolling.. The reason being, my father who is not particularly aware of popular music of the last 50 years would attend the NAMM show each year with his company that imported pianos from Europe into the USA. One year a television producer approached him and said that they were filming a reality tv show and Gene Simmons wanted to be filmed playing one of their pianos at their booth. They asked him if he was familiar with Gene Simmons and he responded “Is that Richard’s brother?” He came in with his son and played one of their pianos as I saw a picture but seeing the show air Family Jewels it apparently hit the cutting room floor as they did air a segment of him and his son walking around NAMM that year.
I had the honor of serving him dinner before a concert. He ordered a giant bowl of 3 different kinds of cereal, but one had to be shredded wheat, with skim milk and ice and the biggest spoon I could find. I thought he was joking. When I put it in front of him he grabbed my arm, pulled me closer to his face and said "tell me a Michael Jackson joke". Growing up a Kiss fan, it was the best/craziest experience I never thought I'd have. All my other coworkers at the hotel were saying how rude he was. They just didn't know him. I got fist bumped multiple times and before he left he told me I'm a wonderful human and never change.
Gene speaks the truth. I'm not an egotistical person, but I learned guitar, and bass, drums, and other instruments, by watching and practicing. I'm a multi-instrumental musician. I can play any lead guitar or bass solos, correctly, by watching a couple times. And I do not read music. I do not feel comfortable playing to an audience, I do it for myself. I guess you can call me hidden talent. But my point is, I agree with Gene, there are many famous artists, like Gene, that have no formal training, they are the chosen ones.
They’re breaking the 180 degree rule. The guest camera needs to be on the opposite side, but then it would probably be in the way of the full studio shot camera, so then the full shot camera would need to be on the opposite side of the room, but then it wouldn’t be facing the set or the participants. The thing is that KISS has never been 'Gene and Paul writing songs together', in fact they didn't write more than 7 songs together from the first album up to Destroyer, and then not a single song until The Elder. Lots of hired hands, studio musicians and Paul/Gene/Ace sitting in separate studios writing and recording songs. On the other hand: Gene has been the main man latest years since Paul can't do high pitch anymore. Way more singing for Gene live.

I got a lil chocked up. Just a lil. Hahaha When Gene did! On you interview. Cause of after working, well over 250 major concerts. For bands like KISS AC/DC Aerosmith Alice Cooper Cher Motley Crue Poison Def Leppard & many many more bands. As 1 of 100. But! 3 concerts later. For the, 1996 KISS Alive World Wide Tour Concert. At Saskatchewan Place Canada. I was now. 1 of 150 Local Concert Working Crew. + I was also. 1 of only 8 Local Concert Show Call Stage Hand Working Crew. & after being asked. To work w the KISS Sign. I was also asked. To help set up. Peter Criss' pearl drum set. In a real funny way. & later/early evening. After I was all done. Working Show Call. By removing, the opening act's band gear. I was then asked. To work w Gene Simmons. & w Gene's roadie. During the KISS Concert. & when we had Gene back stage. On Gene's mini break. I did a big! Big! Big! Big! Big! No! No! & no no! That I could easily been fired for. But instead. Gene took it. As a god thing. So cause of that! Instead of being fired! I was instead rewarded by Gene Simmons. That I'm the only! Local Working Stage Hand ever! To ever get! The leftover contents. From Gene Simmons' mini cooler. & I was told again in 2013/14. That no one! No one before 1996. & no one after 1996. Has ever had. The honor! Of receiving! The left over contents. From Gene Simmons' mini cooler. & all because! I did a big! Big! Big! Big! Big! Big! No! No! & I reminded Gene, of that. On 2022-12-10. When I met up w Gene. In Saskatoon Canada. & the story. Of that whole day. Is one very different. But very cool story. When I made KISStory! & if you'd like, to hear. The whole KISStory. Message Ross Rowlett on facebook. & ask away, Jacqueline & Howie. & I will tell you. A way way too funny KISStory! + If I remember correctly. My sister used to bring up. That fact. That my sister & I. Went to high school. With Shannon & Tracey Tweed. & we'd meet up. Before 1st bell. Most every high school morning. As I kind of remember. We were watching Thrill Of A Lifetime. & they announced if I remember correctly. They said Shannon Tweed. Was from Toronto Ontario. I do remember that! When my sister told the tv. That Shannon's from Saskatoon! Haha + I've stayed in. Tracey Tweed's home. In Saskatoon Canada. As a girlfriend of mine. Actually owns it. Hahaha. Great Show! Jacqueline & Howie & Gene.😇😀😃😄😁😆😅🙃🙂😂🤣
My father left when I was very young, before 3 I would say. I didn’t know until I was 18 and my stepdad revealed he wasn’t my real dad. I don’t think I’ve ever recovered from that. I feel like I have no identity. Anyway, love this convo and gene/howie
9:28 As an East Coast Canadian myself, it's hard to imagine Gene in rural Newfoundland. And, trust me, he'd meet people there who wouldn't know him from Adam. He wouldn't be able to understand 50%, or more, of what some people were saying. Some of those cats are comparable to Brad Pitt's character in the movie Snatch. 😂

@GeneSimmons - So many people, as you know, saw KISS and decided to pick up a guitar. You guys were my influence and kept me on the straight and narrow for nearly 50 years. I heard KISS before I saw what KISS looked liked. What I heard changed my life. What I saw...made my mouth drop. I was 5.
Howie kept interrupting Gene's stories. Then, he tries to retell it and royally screws it up. Very DISRESPECTFUL to Gene. Then he and his daughter proceed to go into bathroom humor that they think is funny. My first comment was very graphic. Had to tone it down per guidelines.
❤️ Howie's genuine stoke when I found out and heard his voice on the War Machine! I'll never listen to that song the same way either Howie! Put both hands up! 🤘🤘
What's weird is Gene says The Beatles started his interest in music and KISS actually went through a very similar story as The Beatles. Gene and Paul were Lennon and MaCartney, the main writers and singers that resented the lead guitarist and drummer for being more silly and having too much fun. Peter and Ace were the goofy, playful George and Ringo. And Gene played bass and sang just like McCartney.
I just listened to the podcast with Paul Stanley, and Howie & his daughter didn't interrupt & cut off him as much as they did Gene.
As a KISS fan, seeing Gene making his impersonation of Paul singing Sunday Driver (later Let Me Know, on their first Album), is SOMETHING ELSE!

I mean this respectfully, Howies daughter is so beautiful! And she has a wonderful sense of humor, and she is articulate and intelligent. And her smile is beautiful as well. She decorates our world.
I loved Gene and kiss he knows how to answer the questions with grace he's smart
I wish Howie would ask a question and stfu for 45 seconds. Just hit a chess timer. damn.
Howie wants to ask about all the encounters with women, his daughter keeps coming back to ask about pooping the bed.
Gene should do a Jazz album your voice is very jazzy. Get your kids to do it with you.
"Don't Sneet when you can Shart" - Gene Simmons, 2022.
meanwhile, after 50 years still filling stadiums and arenas around the world...
To all the whiners and haters in the comments:
Gene accomplishes more in an hour than you'll do in a lifetime.
I have so much enjoyed this show. What a humor you guys have.
Too much interruptions bro
Loved that interview. Wish it was longer
Gene can be your real dad

As an East Coast Canadian myself, it's hard to imagine Gene in rural Newfoundland.
And, trust me, he'd meet people there who wouldn't know him from Adam.
He wouldn't be able to understand 50%, or more, of what some people were saying.
Some of those cats are comparable to Brad Pitt's character in the movie Snatch. 😂
This is by far the best interview I’ve seen in a long time! I grew up with both of you and follow your careers! How often do you get to watch 2 iconic performers just sit and chat about their lives! I love you both! Thank you Howie for bringing this epic interview to the world! ❤😎👍. Laugh 😆 and Rock 🎸on 🤘
Too many interruptions.
i could see cheating on diana ross with cher not other way around
These 2 interviews with Gene and Paul are the best I've heard.
Gene is so funny and clever. A special type of humor.
Gene also doesn't know how vaccines work
@GeneSimmons - So many people, as you know, saw KISS and decided to pick up a guitar. You guys were my influence and kept me on the straight and narrow for nearly 50 years. I heard KISS before I saw what KISS looked liked. What I heard changed my life. What I saw...made my mouth drop. I was 5.
"Gene Simmons of KISS Cheated on Cher With Who?" anything of woman born ?
Howy is annoying as an interviewer. He doesn't let him finish talking. Disappointing. Let the guest finish their story
There are very few people in this world that I DETEST…………….
.
Getting chocolate cake from Diana Ross is the ultimate 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣💪😎💪
WHOOSH!!!!!
You missed that joke, buddy.
I laughed so much durn this , What a great showman at 30:34 I am balling 😂😂😂
Just crawled out from under my rock to discover this podcast and it's phenomenal. Gene's voice is like ASMR to me! Loving it!
Me too! I fell asleep to him on Howard Stern before. The daughter's screech at one point woke me up here, but I also fell asleep during this podcast.
❤️ Howie's genuine stoke when I found out and heard his voice on the War Machine! I'll never listen to that song the same way either Howie! Put both hands up! 🤘🤘
This was a really great ep! Gene needs to be on more podcasts! also the surprise of Whitney was great lol

This is an awesome interview. Thank you
What's weird is Gene says The Beatles started his interest in music and KISS actually went through a very similar story as The Beatles. Gene and Paul were Lennon and MaCartney, the main writers and singers that resented the lead guitarist and drummer for being more silly and having too much fun. Peter and Ace were the goofy, playful George and Ringo. And Gene played bass and sang just like McCartney.
Sorry Gene, "vestibule" is like a small lobby or passageway that leads into a much bigger area. Dazzle me more with your unwavering intellect.
