If you're are young man and can't afford a golf gti or the insurance these are a must i love mine i am 46 and have had it 8yrs now and still love it ,its a manual 3 door red the best colour sts coilovers 18s cailbre with a red pine stripe f1 eagle tyres ebc disc and pads stage 1 tune , its a cheap car to mod , I want to do more
Another issue to just be aware of on the EA888 engine is a slow coolant leak from the thermostat housing. This is an issue on both this 1.8 form and the 2.0 from the golf R, S3, etc... Just keep your eye on the coolant reservoir, for me it was dropping about 2mm every 200ish miles, so can easily go unnoticed and its quite costly if you have to have it done out of warranty.
Jack Dean Yes, this is one a I’ve heard a lot. I did ask VW to review mine when it last went in under warranty and they said it was okay. Fingers crossed it’s all well, warranty ran out. Thanks for the heads up & info tho!
I have also heard from a vw tech that the coolant vw uses is way to strong and eats through the seals...best to dilute it with some water. Apart from that these engines are rock solid and can handle big power with ease
Yes, on all EA888.3 engines, this is a common fault that can happen at any age of the engines. It's one of the few faults, otherwise they're very reliable, strong engines.

I've got two friends that have MK7 Golf GTI's, both from 2016 and one had it all replaced at 20,000 miles, the other at over 100,000 miles. It's all a pot luck game. It can really happen at anytime. If your purchasing from a main-dealer, you maybe covered under their warranty and you can also ask them, or take it a specialist, to see if it's been replaced or not already. My car is currently on just over 74,000 and it appears to have been done by the previous owner. It's not something that was super common on Polo's, it was never hugely talked about when I had mine so but it's definitely something that will affect them, being as they're the same engine pretty much.

Hey mate, Have you got a link to top mounts you also installed on your car? I've seen a few different variations of top mounts available... Not sure if it's the top mounts, but I've never seen eibach springs sit so well for a Polo... From what ive read if you want to retain a level of comfort in aftermarket springs, eibachs are the best option... Cheers.

Can safely say, even owning a Clubsport, I miss this car everyday. Sadly, the UK community has become a bit ripe of chavs and these ar the new Fiesta ST, but they're amazing cars. Great platform to mod, will handle lots of power and there's some awesome builds out there on them. Definitely has my recommendation!
@@nizamahmed5073 If I was to buy another, I'd get a manual. This DSG box is not great... very weak and problematic. I'd just say get a manual. They're much torqier as well! Even vs a mapped DSG car.
@@nizamahmed5073 Unfortunately, that DSG isn’t phased by how gentle you treat it. Some die very early on from normal driving, others can stand hard abuse before dying. I was quoted a few thousand to fix it, and part of me wishes I did. It’s hard to recommend as the chance of failure is quite high on it. But, it’s not to say it won’t last for a few years before then. Sadly, you can’t officially service that box, but RTMG, and maybe more these days, do offer a service.
@@dylanmiller5860 With DSG, the gearbox, if it's not been ragged by previous owners, can be faulty. They're not always good with power, stock or tuned. Manual has it's issues, the stock clutch is chocolate. The thermostat housing on manual and auto can be faulty and cause overheating and leak so have that checked every service or time it goes into a garage.

Only just seen the comment! Personally, avoid the 6r and look at the facelift 1.8T versions. Engine is much more reliable and the facelift is just a lot more MK7 and feels a lot more premium compared.

Not as of yet. I have the VW Serivce plan and my car goes in often enough with more mods than the last time usually and never have an issue. The car has changed a lot since recording this tbh, do need to make an update.
From memory, I think when I did run spacers on the front, they where 12mm and the rears where 15mm. I eventually took the fronts off because they scraped quite a lot.
@@harryocallaghan5550 Honestly mate, highly recommend the PS4's for it. It completely changes the car and it just sticks no matter the speed or conditions
It's always dependant on how it's driven. I think around town, small drives etc, it was around 27mpg. On longer drives, that were more cruising, it would do upwards of 40mpg. My first long drive with it, I did a 300 mile round trip and it did 50.2mpg, fully stock though. So, it varied. Overall, it wasn't bad on fuel!
@@j99bgr 27mpg is 8.7l right? For town it's normal consumption!! So daily is around 10 with little more gas.. around 4k rpm change! Not fast not slow.. also 100 octane or 95?

Agreed. It's such a great platform, and this was just a peak for the Polo. It's such a fun, characterful car with a vast amount of mods.

Ye I’ve had a friend who had to replace his at 45k on a manual Gti and it wasn’t cheap as it’s a long labor time 😅

At the time of recording, not too sure what brand they were. I did switch to H&R 18mm rears and 12mm fronts and they were bangning.

So for me at the time of filming this, it was about 1800 on Admiral with 1 year NCD. Currently, with Brentacre, it's 1300 a year.
