I attend lots of trade shows for my "real" job. These designs for lanyards are great and can highlight my "Side gig" to customers. Thanks for the ideas Chuck. As usual, great job.

I do it at an elementary school. Even say the name of my “side gig.”

You're a truly fantastic speaker, Sir. I appreciate the consice verbage and consideration of the viewer's time. Quick question, I may have missed it in the fhe video. How should I go about softening a new leather strip for this project? Thank you for this tutorial.

If the leather is pretty firm, you can work it a bit with your hands but the best way is just to give the leather some use and wear and it will soften up. You can also buy leather that has a softer temper if that is what you prefer.

If you're worried about dye or oil transfer onto your shirt collar (I am), I like to glue and stitch a piece of undyed veg tan behind the main piece. Probably something thin. Then you could use a thinner weight for the main piece. I do this for wrist straps too.

I work in a shop that requires a safety release on a lanyard in case it gets caught in a machine. Any suggestions or hardware that would allow for that?

Great instructional video. I wish you had used a lighter shade of leather. It was a little hard to see some of the detail work with that black leather.

Chuck has done a great video of making a dog leash. He even walks through making the pattern as well. Search Weaver leather dog leash and it should come up on youtube :)

Chuck, does Weaver carry colors other than black for the poundo boards? It’s very difficult to see when you’re using black leather on a black poundo board. I’ve seen brown poundo boards on some UA-cam videos.

Sorry, no. At this time we only offer black. That is a great point though! We will be sure to pass this along to our new products team. If we get enough requests for something then we certainly look at adding it.

Could you show how to make a lanyard with a breakaway snap/clip at the top of the neck? It’s an important safety feature, especially in industrial settings in case your badge gets caught in something.

I know it's up to the perusing doing it but would you bevel and burnish the strap?
