I'm form Liberia, been in Colorado for about 6yrs. I get along with some AA. And I don't get along with others. I get along with some Liberian, and I don't get along with others, that's it.... I think it's comes down to individuals, and or character type. Some folks called it vibe!!!

I totally get it. As a African American woman when comparing the mannerism partially the walk of black men here in the US they walk differently than most . idris Elba has the bounce (rhythmic walking pattern) I always wondered is that part of him acting or does he really walk that way. John Boyega can fake a american accent well, but his walk is a dead giveaway that he is foreign.

In addition, i've met a couple of african-americans in china who would ignore you when they see you on the street(like act like you're invisible to them). when i meet africans on the street, we greet eachother regardless of whether we know eachother or not, it's called MANNERS dudes, we are one.

      Emmanuel Deborah,
If they ignored you, it's not a personal thing. We are used to being separated and not having communication amongst each other. As an African you see things differently. We just have to communicate better. I get that here in America. I speak to just about anyone as long as they give me eye contact. But I have met all kinds of rude people. Just don't take it to heart, it's not everyone that acts like that.

WODE MAYA Thanks for doing this. Next time ask a panel of African-American intellectuals with African intellectuals and mainly about pre-colonial African history from Kemet/Egypt- Nubia the Sudan and further in South Sudan, West Africa-Timbktu, Ashanti, Songhai Empire, the Benin city which was one of the most advanced city like the Swahili coast in East-Africa to the Great Zimbabwe ruins in Southern Africa. Ask them about this history and see how much they know their great great parents ingenuity prior to European invasion into Africa. i think by knowing and discussing this together will bring the two bodies together as brothers. African-American should even realise that their musical talents, sportive abilities, endurance, intelligence is an African DNA that dates back centuries ago from the moors in North Africa to the Malian in Timbuktu in West Africa then East Africa-Ethiopia ancient Abbysinia to the Kongo Kingdom a well organised system by then and well admired by first European explorers/invaders..to queen Nziga Akuvu of Angola who fought the Portuguese for dacades and Shaka Zulu in the South. It will be amazing to see their views. Please make this happen.

Lumping all Africans together is a mistake. The people in Eritrea or Ethiopia are very different than the people in Mali, who are in turn very different from people in the Cameroon who are very different from people in Namibia, who are very different from Zulus in South Africa. I am not even counting island nations like Madagascar or Cape Verde. African nations and peoples are at least as diverse as are Europeans.

True but you would need to travel or read books to know these things. Unfortunately, reading is something that is not celebrated enough in the black race in America, especially for black men. I see many of my AAs friends traveling to Italy, france, India, China, Dubai, etc..., and of course these sisters see the world from a different sense.

From watching both videos on this subject, I feel like Africans and
African Americans do not fully understand each other. You cannot judge
an entire culture based on bad experiences met with each group. I think
that in order for both groups to grow, we should be willing to fully
study the history behind African American culture and African culture.
Studies should not be based on what is seen on the news, what our
parents taught us, or what we read in "University Books." No, we have to
go deeper by actually learning the history, seeing discrimination from
both sides, and basically educating ourselves about each other. When I
hear people say "We have light-skin blacks and Dark-skin blacks," that
irritates me because whether dark or light-skin, we'll still be judged
and discriminate against just because of who we are. Both Africans and
African Americans are beautiful people no matter the shade of their
skin. The only way we can connect is by educating ourselves as if we
were going to a new country and really wanted to understand the history
and culture of a people. I am African American and this is just my point
    of view.

I agree I don't speak for all Africans, but I do speak for many of them I know,so many of them think Blacks everywhere are cool, so many look up to you guys and so many are dying to visit America cause they feel that's the one place where they have people like them who will accept them, cause they see all blacks as one.I feel sad that you seem to believe we all hate blacks that aren't African, all I can do is tell you there are good and bad people in every race and the good ones love everyone just cause they are human, and love people of their colour/race more cause they see them as their brothers and sisters.

    • @joyonuekwe733
      @joyonuekwe733 5 років тому

@ I'm still repeating we're not all like that, a smart person would acknowledge the fact that there is no way a whole continent would only feel hate for another. I don't know what else to say, perhaps you like being a martyr or felt bad for. I'm trying to show love here and you're knocking me down.It does not change the fact I've been trying to get across since though,I'M AFRICAN and I LOVE ALL BLACKS.MANY AFRICANS LOVE ALL BLACKS. If some people would only like to stay focused on others who carry hate and overlook the sincere love of those whom only want to show sincere affection, then so be it. It's sad though, but I can't force affections or anything else on people who don't want it.

I love this video. I am African American and I can say from own experience, there is definitely a misconception about Africans in America. Africans have always been portrayed as poor, they don't like Americans and of course slavery. So I grew thinking these things and it wasn't until I had black history teacher who taught just black history, and she flip the whole mindset about Africans and African American history and I started reading about Africans, listening to African music hanging around Africans, and boy I can wait to take a trip to Africa one day. A lot of African Americans are so divided here and we can't stick together for nothing. Its a lot brain washing and miseducation in America when it comes to Africans and African Americans. If we the people want to know the truth we have to teacher ourselves period.

First I view myself as an African in America. I've always had a spiritual and cultural connection to Africa. Even so 7 years ago I did the African Ancestry DNA test to find my patrilineal roots came from the Ewe people of Ghana and the matrilineal roots to be a combination of Mandinke of Senegal, Temne of Sierra Leone, and Kru of Liberia. I have not touched down on the Mother Land yet but will very soon. As far as African Americans views on Africans and even Africans views on African Americans especially as it pertains to the ones being interviewed they don't speak for the many who are Pan African. Seeing this brothers say we don't look alike well I'm thinking where are you and what are you looking at. To quote the great Malcolm X Omowale who said you look as much Congolese as Congolese does. There's many who have to search their truth and their history. Even in America within the buildings of houses and architecture and see African symbols. I'm not African because I was born there we are African because African was born in us. There is a disconnect with many who view each other as different. But there are many who view us as the same. Africans at Home and Abroad like Marcus Garvey said.

So glad I came across this channel! I love what your doing for Africans across the Diaspora. However, as being an African American (and New Yorker) My experience with my African brothers and sisters are sort of interesting.
I have been around Nigerians and some Senegalese, Liberians. I will say that Aficans have great qualities like; high standards, believe in education to the highest levels. As an African you're expected to achieve and achieve greatly. They are also giving people. These are great wonderful qualities to have. But, they seem to believe that African Americans are lazy, uneducated, shiftless, and disrespectful.
I also, have found Africans to behave in an elist fashion. They don't want their children to marry African Americans. But it's ok if they marry outside their race🤔 Although they want to stay within their own ie; Nigerians with Nigerians. It is painful that Some of our African brethren separate themselves from us. Can you imagine the trauma of an African American being taken from your homeland, into a strange place, with strange people then disconnected from your language, your everything, and then when you meet someone from your homeland you are then rejected again. Its hurtful.
I think that we would all benefit as a people if we really understand the history of what African Americans went through in this country and how are enslavement affected us and Africans. Black Americans are not lazy, we are educated, and have those same qualities and standards. The reason other members from the Diaspora can come to America and enjoy those freedoms is because African Americans have put their blood, sweat, and tears to make it possible for all minorities and our family members throughout the Diaspora to make it so. So before you start to disparage "Blacks" in America remember why you can go into that college, buy that house in that neighborhood, and all the other things that Black people in America fought and died to have these rights that exist today that benefit all.

It's a little bit of language envy. Lots of us would prefer to speak another language. Spanish, French and German are prevalent. Learning a African language is a something you have to seek. If you independently learn its hard to find someone to vibe with you. Truthfully, I traced my DNA and found out the places of my origin and "snuck " into African forums on social media to learn more about African foods, cultures , history , and "pop culture". However, "we African American that have "snuck" to learn more aren't always welcome. I've even heard that I am not supposed to see my self as "African-american'" and told we are just "Black American"..... I think we should be more welcoming to each other.

We are from two different worlds but from the same root. I really wish that African Americans would be a little bit more awake then what we are, because although our original cultural has been stripped from us, doesn't mean we can't learn and appreciate it more. And on the other hand I wish Africans wouldn't look at us as if we think we are better and look down on us. Because we had to overcome our own struggles to be where we are as a people today. We can better, but we not all thugs . Personally all the Africans I've ever met were really cool and I feel like we learn from each other

We African dnt really copy the American or African-American culture...
Chanting on a drum(rap or hiphop) is something that was and is still in practise in some African communities..
FYI most of our product come from China and Asian countries..
To my African-American fam... We dnt really hate you guys.... Its more of how you speak about us African Natives..
After a lifetime.. Only a few have managed to visit africa...
My views from most of my African American friends is the perception that Africa is poor... People walk with lion in the wilderness...
The respect will only come when you are able to use your smartphone google some information about africa... Check images about Africa... And even ask yourself who is the richest black person(hint: Dangote) in the world..
We may respect the white people because they have been here and are the highest investors... Including Tourism...
BE PART OF THE CULTURE AND COMMUNITY YOU COME FROM..

Sleeky Xplicit, Did you not know the maker of this video just ups likes on African Americans With Name calls of there kids as Ghetto, So let's not that goes Both wAys and yes, Hip hop is African Americans Culture off top, Jazz what you mean? Drums okay, Beats and so on, African Americans, Hair, styles, Slogans Or broken English, Because it's not or original, Yes is highly Co-opted sorry it's true. When did Africans start calling themselvez, black, most went by there tribal Sects,
Us black Americans just started hearing about this 5yrs ago, We believe it started in the Middle East with migrant workers, okay
reggae comes from is brothers here in America, they also have there own distinct slang, & language or broken English, its an admixture of french, latin, And semi Hebrew, really.
which is so big it now defines the whole English dictionary my brotha,
And not to mention our Afro latins, very diverse and even there slang words are spoken heavily into the New wave of English Grammar,
Still some.do not understand unless it's used around them enough,
we speak what's called broken English with a mix of Other languages, Freedom fighters started in the Americas,
Black Panthers started in the Americas , Funk music and many others is just another way we call era's, Our generation's our times, places and things, our movements.
      Swagg styles, started in Americas
Ganges started here in America but was more political.
with our Latin Brothas and so on.
Blues and reds, Colors of our flag Colors of our opposing sides demo- Republicans.
But many will blame that on Blk Americans, I can go on, However none of this originated in Africa, But now if Africans are part of our Generational movements worldwide, That's on yall.

Hip Hop is AFRICAN AMERICAN. Don't try to steal our shit. I'm all for unity and everything, but what we're not going to do is appropriate culture or take credit for somebody else's creation. With that being said, if you listen to Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz, Rock n Roll, or Country, you are practicing and/or copying AFRICAN AMERICAN culture 💯

I'm African-Canadian. What I see is Africans who were born elsewhere, seem to be more whitewashed. They lose their pride of being "African". Even going so far as to bleach their skin, which is self-hatred in my opinion. I love Africans who were born and raised there. I love all shades of my people. Most that I know are not lazy, very educated, family oriented. I would love to visit Africa one day. I can't imagine the feeling I would get.

There's a lot of variables it comes to whether or not Africans and Africans Americans look alike. I have West African friends in America who I originally didn't know were African unless their name was a dead giveaway, they told me and/or I met their parents who still have an accent. However we def look different than most North and East Africans due to different ethnicities and mixes of different races. For example a Kenyan and a black American definitely don't look alike.
    In general, culture is different.
Black Americans have a lot of euro/Western influence (e.g. how we dress, more individualistic values). Some things that are common in certain African countries actually remind me of the Caribbean (Jamaica specifically), where my family is from like certain foods, more collective values, and hospitality.
    Nice video.

Why can't African natives and African Americans still find commonality while acknowledging their own historical and cultural differences? It's wrong to say there is no difference between Africans and African Americans, unless you mean on a human level. There is different history and cultural development there and we should all celebrate the diversity which exists between each other. It is rather racist for us all to reduce ourselves to just "black" people. Kind of Euro-centric. The truth is also that African Americans are, today, culturally removed from Africa, our ancestors and communities have developed in their own way. We are our own people. This doesn't mean we are trying to distance ourselves from Africa; Africa and its people are a part of our story. We can still stand together for things we have common while learning and celebrating our differences.

I couldn't finish the video. Cringed at our ignorance. I'm AA and I know AA are less informed and culturally aware, not just about Africa, but we are culture starved. Every African I have met has superior intelligence, speaking at least 3 or 4 languages. One woman spoke 20 languages, she was South African. I had to learn about African countries as an adult because I was so ignorant. We are not taught it in school and definitely not in our families. I have the pleasure of meeting many different Africans now because of my work and I have been encouraged by them to learn more. They don't hate AA, they are have been very encouraging. I have even started showing my kids music in Zulu and have presents from African countries given to me. Never too late to learn. We just can't be arrogant AA about our own culture.

      - Black Americans have a higher IQ than Africans
      - Black Americans have higher life expectancy than Africans
      - Black Americans are taller on average compared to Africans
      - Black Americans have more prominent historical figures than Africans, MLK alone is better than any African person in history
      - Black Americans have created the greatest music genres in history (Jazz, Rock And Roll, Rap) while Africans still play with drums
      - Black Americans have better inventors

People have gone far..we should talk about Africans within Africa..we actually don't like each other that much. Like North part of Africa, I don't think they consider themselves Africans..People from the West Africa, most of them are super aggressive and this make people from East Africa and South Africa a bit afraid to interact with them, you just never know what they are upto. And people from South Africa..hahahaa. just a lot is happening within the continent of Africa that we don't have to cross the ocean to discuss other issues, let's deal with our within issues first. I wish Africa was one big happy family( remember families do argue and fight alot but the love is what bond them). PEACE, LOVE & UNITY ✊💞

I am African (from Rwanda), and I've met a few African-Americans here in Africa, and I've a lot of them on TV. My opinion is that we (Africans) do not dislike you (the African-Americans); but perhaps there are some of us who expect you guys to be exactly like us in every way(culture, language, behaviour, dress code, food preferences etc...), which is quite impossible because you have been influenced by a different world with totally different challenges over a long period of time and therefore you have had to adapt by creating a culture that favors you in the new environment. Then when we meet and interract we get very disappointed because the above expectations are not met! Nonetheless, I see a lot of common core values among us like how families keep together (you guys have family reunions like us 😊); most I have met believe in God, you love music and express yourselves through music, you are passionate about what you believe just like us etc... So I think that we are you and you are us in a way, especially considering the fact that we look the same. Cultural differences are not a big deal to me, I believe that there is something to learn from either side. I personally admire you guys!

This has been my experience living in America as an Africa woman. I live in MA so my experience is from MA. African Americans are not that many where I live so I have only worked with them. The men have been awesome people to work with. They are protective in a way and they always have your back. Just absolutely pleasant people. The African American women I have worked with have been a different case. They are plain out mean and treat you like you are beneath them. From my past experience I would rather deal with white people at work than an African American lady. That has been my experience. I have nothing against them at all just being my honest about my experience .

...... many African Americans have Native American blood and it is more common than people in the United States realize. Very few African Americans are 100% African in heritage, many are mixed with Native American and European.
Also, on average African Americans are bigger in stature than Africans because of slavery. African Americans are truly a hybrid race of people indigenous to North America and while many of the traits of African Americans originate from Africa, many more are truly unique to North America. There is a difference, and I'm not saying better just different.
