Aaron, THANK YOU!! No plastic fell out when I removed the shift-head, but the angled plastic tip that plunges down when you depress the shift head button probably was misaligned which caused the problem. I squirted some WD-40 on the plastic tip and spring-rod, twisted and push-pulled it before reattaching the shift head and it worked! Much appreciate you taking time to post. God bless you, Steve-o in Boise.
I want to thank you. I’m a 68 year old woman that knows nothing about mechanics , yet with the help of your video I fixed my Kia Sedona by following your simple instructions. The shifter was fixed and the key was released from ignition in 5 minutes. You saved me time and money.
OMG thank you so much. I have been unhooking my battery for 6 months to get my key out. The dealership wanted $1000 to fix it. I went to the junk yard and got a new to me gear shifter for $2. You Sir made my day.
Thank you so much for your help. As soon as I pulled the handle up, 4pcs of plastic fell out. We've had the same problem for almost a month now and I can't believe it's that easy.
Thanks for posting this. I had a similar problem, the broken piece did fall out when I removed the knob. It worked for a while, but would still stick in park sometimes. I got a new, oem knob on amazon for 35$. Free shipping. Work prefectly now. Thanks again!
Hey I really want to thank you for taking the time to make this video and explain everything. I had the same problem and I did this and it is working now! I could get the key out! I had to unplug my battery because the key was stuck in the accessory position but thanks to you I got it out and it's working fine now. The repair shop wanted to charge me $350 to replace my whole ignition cylinder... so I'm very very grateful! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for this video and for sharing your experience with people everywhere. I unscrewed the shift knob, pulled it up and shook it into my hand and the small black plastic piece dropped into my hand. Put it back together and works like new now. I'm going to order a new shift knob, because I believe the little latch on the end of the broken piece has some kind of function, but for now, it works great! Thank you again!
Thank you for this video. My problem was a little different, but you got me to thinking about the solution in the right way and once I made the paradigm shift it was a simple and free fix.
Thank you so much! I had the same problem. Had to disconnect the negative cable. Then tried your fix by removing the shift knob and boom. Little piece of plastic came out and now it's fixed! Your a lifesaver. You need more videos like this.
Thanks. This was the perfect solution for my stuck key and malfunctioning drive selector on my 2007 Kia Sedona. I too found the loose little plastic piece when I removed the handle.
Thank you! I took the knob off my 2006 Sedona, the piece of plastic fell out, the silver knob popped into place, and I was able to remove the key. It took 5 minutes.
I took the knob assembly off and was able to get the key out. Tried to put it back together and didn't get anywhere. Had to really shake the knob and jiggle the button, but finally after about 5 minutes the little plastic tab came out, and voila! Everything went back together and works fine now! Thanks for the demonstration, really helped me be sure of where the problem lay. ua-cam.com/video/bMS3Aedumzo/v-deo.html also helped.
My mom has an 07 and I wonder if the module is bad. Until I disconnect the battery I still cannot return the key to the lock position. Something is still energized

Now....what do you know about the mysterious airbag light that the dealership can't make stay off?
Sorry. I don’t know anything about that one. I didn’t encounter that myself.

Mine was the same. What happened when you followed the instructions?
My mom has an 07 and I wonder if the module is bad. Until I disconnect the battery I still cannot return the key to the lock position. Something is still energized
Mine was doing the same thing. Had to disconnect the battery or leave the key in. Very nerve wracking.
