Thank you for making this video! I have a 2014 Kia Sedona, no power door, and this is exactly what I needed to replace the actuator. Thank you!

I just finished replacing the door lock actuator motor in my '08 KIA Sedona. Thanks to this video I saved myself well over a hundred dollars. The dealership wanted to sell me the entire sealed unit with the gears and all for $115.00. I was able to purchase the MOTOR ONLY on Amazon for $14.00!! The installation was simple thanks to the video.

Glad it helped. There is a very good chance your other rear door lock will also fail in the future. These Sedona's are notorious for "power sliding door" and "door lock actuator" failures specifically due to these little motors. btw if you have a power sliding door that isn't working, it's a very similar fix. you just have to pull the power sliding door motor instead of the door lock actuator.

I got the part and it was spec'd for kia sedona door locks, but not for the hatch. It had a much larger worm gear than the one in the rear hatch. I removed the worm gear from the new one, put the old worm gear on this motor and assembled. When I tried it, the hatch would do the opposite of what the doors did (unlock when the rest locked and vice versa). So I couldn't get the connector apart and just cut the two wires and swapped them. It all works now. It was a real pain, but I'm frugal and feel great joy saving $100.00 since the reality is everyone is on a fixed income, we can only buy so much stuff in any given year. This video inspired me. Its a shame product manufacturers would rather have you buy a part for $120.00 that you don't really need, as opposed to getting a $10.00 part that will repair the issue. 20 years ago if my vacuum cleaner didn't work I'd trash it and buy a new one. Now I'd install a new switch and be good as new. It feels great fixing everything.

Thanks for the video. You don't need to pull the arm off. I just did one of mine and left the arm on. I heated my utility knife and made the initial opening. The rest came very easily. I just need the new motor now. Again thanks for the vid. Good job!
By the way, before you screw the unit back on the lock mechanism, you may want to attach the actuator to the electrical connector and try the power locks to see if it works. I will try that with mine before I put it all back together.

Is there a fuse that controls the door lock accuator or one fuse for the door lock/unlock assembly?

Marc Cummings I actually stumbled upon the fuse for the rear door lock in my 2012 Kia Sedona ..it’s located behind the car jack panel in the rear on right side..there are also fuses and relays for things like defogger and power windows , tail gate, lift gate , etc

One of my rear sliding door locks are fixed thanks in part to you, will go do the other one now. Just wanted to say thanks for the video first, I appreciate it. Have a good one. When i first put the locking mechanism back in, i tried my key with baited breath and no way it worked. Unbelievable. I purchased last month from a dealer and did not realize the back doors were not locking for a whole month ! The dealer sold me it not even knowing they were not working. Lol.
Your video helped out me out a lot. I did not have a razor knife, so i used a sharp carving knife. I did not need to use a hammer, but used slight cutting motions which quickly entered the seem so easy in fact. I messed up by not realizing I was at the housing around the screw hole when i started expanding the seam and promptly snapped off the corner around the screw hole. No matter it kind of held the seam together enough when i put it all back together. So much so I did not bother gluing.

Glad to hear you were able to fix it. It turns out these little motors go bad OFTEN. I still haven't found a part number for the motor w/plastic spindle. The gold spindle is actually the replacement motor for the power sliding door(which also goes bad often). They seem to work just fine for the door lock actuator and for $12 I can't complain. Btw for anyone who has power sliding doors that aren't functioning, this motor is most likely your culprit. You should be able to unscrew it from the door lock assembly and replace the motor in a similar fashion. Here's a video for power sliding door repair ua-cam.com/video/hVG4p9QJHk0/v-deo.html . He also shows you how to remove the door lock assembly from the car.

    • @carlfxy

I managed to fix the second door a lot faster and easier. However, this morning the first door seemed to be jamming a bit. Turns out that the casing was flexing open a bit, so I put a third nut / bolt in to seal the housing properly. Didn't like the idea of gluing it down. Now its working great. Certainly feels good to fix it yourself.
As for the difference in length of the plastic to brass spindle, if its an issue I will just 3d print a longer holder for it so its more securely held in place. Don't think its an issue though.

Looks like you can do the same with the trunk (liftgate, tailgate). The motor size is different though. It should be the 2007-2010 Entourage motor available for $10. Otherwise the whole bell crank runs about $120 from the dealership. The liftgate is even easier to do than the sliding doors.

LOL I wish I read your post sooner. I got this motor, only to find it had a over sized worm gear and reversed polarity. I did put the old worm gear on this motor and cut the wires to reverse polarity and it works but your solution using the correct part is better.

Mine is the tailgate lock that's not locking. At first it wouldn't unlock. Is this the motor for the tailgate too? Currently I can hear all the door locks click and click two or three times when starting the car and all but the tailgate will lock with the remote. As a result the horn won't 'honk' indicating I've got all the doors locked. One dealer wanted $120 just to check it out, I was thinking I could replace a LOT of lock motors for that much!

I had to replace the handle on the tailgate and took it apart. here's a video link (not mine) ua-cam.com/video/-1GsmTzRx58/v-deo.html these are not the same motors for the tailgate. I would take it apart and fiddle with it before I ordered anything. The handle has been known to go bad but not the tailgate lock.

Has anyone been able to find the exact replacement motor? The motor used (with the shorter brass gear) is actually for the sliding door actuator, not the door lock actuator. I'm wondering of anyone has found the motor with the longer plastic gear. Although I don't doubt the motor used will work, without the bushing to hold it in place at the end it's less stable than it should be.
