Hi Jim I'm all for stupid Banjo tricks more please
Could be a series.... lol
He's muting the 5th string like guitar players do. But it's good though.
@@musicmadgic6931 but, no, as a guitarist I can assure you it’s not the same.
Awesome. Just said I hope he gives us the tab and there u go! Thank you!,
😁
One of the best banjo players to learn from.. Wish you all the love and blessings
Thanks a ton
I began playing the banjo at the age of 11. Thirteen years have since passed, and I still deem this instrument the best thing in the world. My love for it surpasses all else.
Thank you for all your wonderful videos!
Greetings from France, where the banjo is a rare thing.
Thank you for the kind words. 😀
Howdy Mr. Jim. I've been watching your videos for 2 months now (that was when I bought my first banjo). Love the content, finally subscribed. Thank you. This one is a bit advanced for me (2 months) but I'll definately come back to it.
Do the single string bit, easy to memorize and then you can add almost anything you want, using 2 finger picking, or frailing/clawhammer, or even super advanced highfalutin 3 finger picking 😎
@@musicmadgic6931 will do
THere's no rush at all to get here. Hang with the simpler stuff. This will be here when you're ready.
Suggesting that 3 finger is super advanced as opposed to other styles isn't correct. Clawhammer, 2 Finger, and other styles can be as complex as anything else.
Thank you for doing what you do!!! You are why I have gotten as far as I have with banjo!!
Thank you for letting me be a part of your banjo journey
I love the way Jim explains the fretboard in simple terms. As he often says, it’s fun. Let’s jam!
Thanks ☺️
Great Teacher Using your Ideas always.
Thank you! 😃
I just found your channel tonight. I put the banjo down over a decade ago when I cut the tip of my left middle finger off preventing me from making full chords. I put new strings today as well as new battery in my tuner and new picks. I'm literally starting from the bottom all over again. Any lick tricks care to help me with that doesn't involve my left social finger would be much appreciated!
Have you found my beginner series?
My mom slipped in the kitchen last night and on the way down said you were going to do an el cumbanchero tutorial. Premonition probably
Now… and seriously not trying to be snarky here, but if you’re ready for El Cumbanchero then maybe you don’t really need a tutorial.
Love it Jim I'm 73and u teach me a little every day ime not religious but sometimes that pickin takes me to heaven. Love it what a way to share .an experience .hope ure well loving.
Thanks for letting me be a part of your banjo journey ☺️
Love all your tips they sure are helping me❤
Glad I can help!
Very cool Jim
Thanks
Thanks for watching 😀
Fun little ditty Jim! I improvised in my convoluted two finger mayhem style and did the whole riff around the 8th fret G shape and finished it on the 4th string ending on the 5th fret. Just another lick for my bag of tricks!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Man I’m struggling with banjo. Love the sound of it. I feel the notes and finger sequencing but getting it to come naturally well..just isn’t there yet. I need to start back over at your beginner lessons I think.
Take your time. Be mindful as you play. Never forget to listen. :)
Don't give up it is coming
I broke my wrist, neck and collar bone 3 months ago. Still healing, but i have had to start over from the beginning as well. I love Jims lessons!!! ❤
Good one Jim 👍I'm still working away on your lessons set 👏

Hi Colleen...If you don't mind my asking , what kind of banjo do you have ?? How is ur arm , coming along ?? Because if there's anyone anywhere on the net , that can teach you how to play the banjo , it's definitely Jim..so you've absolutely come to the right place !!! He's very knowledgeable , and just as patient..!!! So good luck , and happy picking Colleen !!! 😊😊
All I gotta do is get a stupid banjo and I could do this trick. Sorry I couldn't pass it up lol

Super fun Jim!! Love it! Thank you!! 🪕 🎶
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice ideas! Thanks, Jim!
Glad you like them!
Jim great pickin as always. Wonder if you ever took the notion to make a lesson for Bully of the town?
Here's some lesson notes on that that I made for a student: ua-cam.com/video/7xntVzXnNX8/v-deo.html
@JimPankey thanks brother jim.
Hi Jim, that banjo trick is pretty clever! Thanks for sharing.
A question for you... Where did you purchase those mylar banjo case covers? I've got a 20-year old mylar case cover that got damaged by our cat, and my source for it unfortunately passed away several years ago. 😞 I've searched online with no luck. Can you please let me know where you purchased your case covers? Thanks.
Search for Climate Case. Hopefully someone is still making them.
Hello Jim always fine to follow-
your great lessons!thanks very much.
Glad you like them!
Yes been wanting tonlearn shortnin bread
Awesome!
Love it, Jim. 😅 Thanks!
Thanks for watching 😀
Hi Jim…I’d like to ask/suggest a question or two about my “learning” but I don’t want to take up a lot of space in the comments…how can I reach you? Many thanks.
I enjoy your videos thanks
Thanks for watching!
Kool
Love your content.
Glad to hear it!
Is the "stupid" part supposed to be for vamp/picking for backup?
Nope... just for effect
Can you tell me what should be the proper height of the strings to the fretboard and how to make that adjustment
I usually like my action to be 1/8” above the 12th fret. You’ll have to look around here on UA-cam for how to adjust that for your banjo.
@@JimPankey thank you Jim you're the best
Fantastic !
Thanks 😊
@@JimPankey Thank you .
Looking to buy a banjo. On a budget, but still would like to have a decent one, any suggestions?
Look at Recording King
Where do i start? I’ve been playing for 3 years but can only play tab. And can’t seem to memorize. Where do you suggest i start?
Have you gone thru my beginner series?
Gday Mate.
Howdy
How are you doing jim?
I'm good. Thanks
@@JimPankey I've been learning I'll fly away so that I can play at my church and I'm really getting it thanks jim

😀
That stupid banjo trick is called palm muting in the guitar world and is as essential as slides and pull offs in the banjo world is it not jim?
Hey cool, thanks for sharing!! I'm new at this thing and I do a lot on the guitar and hoping I can do it on some banjo work as well... Will not be soon though.
Sorta, but the goal here is to create more of a plink than a muted sound. It’s also just a single string and it’s not something that’s used a lot in bluegrass banjo.
Don't you dare talk to my banjo grandpa like that!
