    Cardboard box, great tip, just back from my first “box” sesh practicing my bunny hops. It’s the perfect thing, two heights and deforms when you fail🙂

      I forget if I found that tip hidden in some bmx plus magazine or some video off netflix but its a sick idea because its just a piece of cardboard

      You and me both! Haha In my last comment I spoke about it, I'm passionate about weight lifting. In 2003 I found BMX and also the weight room. Both are very important to me, that and weight lifting is prob the best thing you can do as a rider/athlete in any sport/ niche where you are really active and really on your bodies natural strength to perform. If your not strong it will make you strong, and being strong is more beneficial then just moving around feeling stronger, it comes into play when you smack the ground at 20-30mph. Having muscles will save you from breaking on impact.

    Are smaller bars better for bunny hopping ? For example 8.5” bars vs 10-11” bars.

    • @billy_bikes
      @billy_bikes  8 місяців тому +1

      I ride 9"s but that is just me, I feel like w bars everybody is diff. I dont like it too tall, although I cant really say I've tried it much higher than what it is now. What does help with straight up bunnyhopping I think is CS, anything shorter, the small cranks 160mm if you dont mind smaller and steeper forks like 15-25mm offset. Then its all strength, how much power you are able to derive while doing it. 9" is kinda high for me but I was always able to hop higher, and its because of strength. I remember bunnyhopping track hurdles in the 7th grade, on a heavy bike that was too big for me I prob had 170 or 175mm cranks, 32 or 35 offset fork because that was standard back then and like 20.5 TT who knows the CSs back then lol it could have been like 14". But I was a powerhouse as a kid, no sports such as football, but I boxed for a little and I mainly rode. I was doing 15-20 pullups in a single set back then so I always attributed strength/power to how high I can hop or how well I could ride.

    do you think i should get in better shape before bmxing? or just workout and ride i dont wanna blow my knee out i know im weaker than i used to be

    • @billy_bikes
      @billy_bikes  10 місяців тому +2

      Its up to you! But if I wasn't in shape I wouldnt go riding at the level I envision in my head from the past, I would work myself up over a period of time. So big 540 down a drop I wouldnt jump into that, but general riding yeah of course like skatepark rails and something else that doesnt have much risk for injury. I like to focus on basics but I think its good your thinking about that stuff, so do basic stuff and raise your comfort level over time doing the things you used to do. In time from riding what will happen is you do have a weight, your bodyweight and the bikes weight, when you 180, hop, anything really your are leveraging your own weight weight could be considered plyometric exercise, not so much isometric, but there certainly are concentric and eccentric movements in bmx and this will make you in shape similarly to pushup, and pullup. So yeah man get into weight training, and prioritize riding for certain lengths of time. Cycling is about cardiovascular endurance, bmx is cycling but there is a power/speed aspect to it. And weight training is good for keeping the body strong, and rebuilding after injuries. I like it because it only makes me stronger, more able to endure, and yeah its good stuff
