    I am not good at art, so I found this to draw some plant textures for an 8th-grade school assignment, and as mindblowing as this was, I can't draw these. I can't wrap my mind around the fact that someone could draw this.

    Damn the music is soooo chill makes me feel like I have all the time in the world (which is what it takes me to draw :P), to me that's the biggest obstacle from when I was young, at the age I am now (41), it feels like I'm running out of time to 'start learning' how to draw, or how to speak a language or anything else, but in reality, the process has ALWAYS been the same, at every age, with more or less different kind of stress at every given time, perception was more or less different because I wouldn't pay the same attention to my 'outer world' as my parents would take care of some details such as making food, laundry, earning my living and all, but in the end, the learning process is about the same every time, and it is about taking the time to do things 'the right way', to properly 'EXPLORE' the subject I am studying, to learn it's rules, what defines it and not, to grasp the 'perception' of the study, how 'to see' things in a drawing manner, how to think perceived things in russian language, how to conceive things in Java or Actionscript, how to approach my wood material or my rock material, how to intimately and intuitively 'feel' with the brain what it is that you 'see' with your fingers, with your ears, with your eyes, with your 'inner eye', the way the world is conceptualized inside of you, it's a redefining concept every step in the learning process XD Thanks for sharing ! =]

    Again, this “how to” is as all your tutorials very helpful to me. I am 72 and dedicated to improving and perfecting my drawing (and painting) skill. I really like your attitude toward the work, and your explanations are clear and helpful. I sometimes don’t get how you’re placing the lines you draw in the second phase, and the third phase-once the initial soft lines are laid down I am not exactly clear where the lines are laid down using the darker leads. This is not to say I don’t get it, or I don’t benefit, I do...but, I would like to see the CLOSE UP shot of the pencil point going slow-motion giving a bit of the video in 5x or 10x magnification. Not a lot of this, just a insertion here and there like a loupe in a graphics program. NOW: THE REAL COMMENT: YOU ARE THE BEST. Keep going. Let us viewers know what we can do to enhance your work so we can all grow together in the same direction. Maybe this is an old man way of thinking, but I’m thinking a lot of your viewers would love to contribute to your process. Thanks for putting the instruments used. I’m still looking for a pencil/pen roll-up holder like the one you roll out. Your patience is spectacular. -Glenn

      Hi Glenn, I know you commented a while ago, but I figured I might be able to help you out a little bit. In the bottom right corner of UA-cam videos there are several little icons (each one tells you what it's for when you hover your mouse over it), one of them can set your screen to fullscreen, that will fill your monitor with the video. To get out of full screen, just push the escape button, or click the fullscreen icon a second time. There is another icon shaped like a gear, labeled settings. There you'll find a setting for speed, you can slow down or speed up any video you'd like, and set it back to normal speed again. Hope these tips are helpful to you. Have fun drawing!

    Thank you for this video Dan, I really enjoyed it!
    I drew along with the tutorial part of the video to practice, and then I watched the added real-time footage afterwards which helped pinpoint my flaws.
    Basically, my textures lack in precision and depth. I tend to slip into 'flat' thinking and then the texture turn more into something like a wallpaper.
    Perhaps my observations of what I need to do to improve can be useful to someone else, so here they are:
    - Aim for the highest precision possible, by being more mindful of each line, where it starts and ends. It also requires the ever-sharp pencils. I am gradually getting better at this =)
    - Utilize the full dynamic range of the pencils by varying the applied pressure more. As a musician, I will try to remember this by relating it in terms of loudness, from barely audible to almost deafening sounds.
    - Visualize or feel more the 3-dimensionality of what is being drawn.
    - Patience, patience, practice and more patience =D

    Dan, you are a very gifted artist. I notice that these squares are probably less than 4 inches square. How does this translate into a larger scale? Is that something you could cover in a video, or are your lessons geared to the architectural student base? Am I just underthinking this?

    • @DanBeardshaw
      @DanBeardshaw  6 років тому

      CD Sullivan A lot of these can just be repeated no matter what the scale, the tree one could be changed up a little bit to vary a bigger scale too. No the videos aren’t just architecture, in fact it’s a lot more about drawing. It just happens that I study the subject at university and so it’s a good way for me to create content and also keep up with that :)
