CIA Intelligence Analyst (ret) Ray McGovern joined us online to provide analysis and commentary about the war in Ukraine and the relationship between Russia and China. Ray McGovern served as a CIA analyst for 27 years during which his responsibilities included chairing the National Intelligence Estimates and preparing and the President's Daily Brief which he would brief to President Reagan's most senior advisors. In 2003, Mr. McGovern co-founded the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) to expose how intelligence was being falsified to "justify" war on Iraq.
The event was moderated by Edward Curtin. Mr. Curtin is a writer whose work includes poetry, journalism, philosophy and more.

Thank you, Mr Ray McGovern, for remembering. My grandfather fell in the Battle of Kursk in 1943 fighting fascism. We could not find his grave. My grandmother lived alone for 48 years waiting for my grandfather. My father was 10 when he lost his father…

I am puzzled that when the strategic planers in Washington (Nuland, Brzezinski, Wolfowitz, Bolton, ect, ect.) Trivialized the events of 1941-1945 that Russians suffered at the hands of the Germans, Thinking that this had no effect on the Russian nation? All you have have to do is imagine how Americans would feel at the loss of 27 million lives in living memory.

Still, it is better than nobody and it is a good thing that in US people like Ray still live, people that understand the history and the lessons that were never learned by politicians.

When Obama made that comment about being exceptional, I said that it didn’t come from a spirit of humility, but from one of bombastic hubris and arrogance. His familiarity with scripture is obviously lacking, for it is written: “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 (KJV) Look how far we’ve fallen, and are continuing to fall. The hubris of Evangelicals only makes matters worse.

    Мне жаль не самого героя…
    Увы! утешится жена,
    И друга лучший друг забудет;

My grandfather fought with the New Zealand division in North Africa, we were part of the 8th Army under various British generals but also under our commander, General Freyberg. We have been taught in New Zealand and Australia of our contribution to these wars, especially in the Middle East in WWII. The 8th Army fought a bloody war in the desert against the Italians and the Africa Korp. It was touch and go for a while but we finally drove the Africa Korp out of North Africa, with the final push having the Americans support us to do this. But all said and done, there were about 8 odd Italian divisions (at their height) of various capability, certainly not all incompetent or cowards, they essentially did their duty. And while the Africa Korp bloody our noses, often in the desert, they essentially had 3 combat divisions, the 15th Panzer Division and the 21st Panzer Division and the 90th Light Division, with other various divisions at times but no more then 3 at their height, a max of 6 German divisions, and well under strength ... the Soviets faced 200 elite combat proven German divisions ... the allies in Europe didn't last long against their formations, thank god the Soviets did, thank you Russia!!!!

(Jim Crow laws).
(Drang nach Osten).

27 million was just during the war and may still be a low estimate. The people of the USSR lost somewhere around 65 million to their own government. Estimates vary.
I had friends who collaborated with the Germans when they invaded. Even though they were considered to be subhuman by the Germans, they were treated better by them than they were by their own government. They retreated with the Germans and ended up in the American sector and went to work for the Americans and avoided being sent back to the USSR by the Allies to die in the camps. Evil ruled the world during the war and never lost its grip on either side.
No government seems to end up doing anything but evil while telling you what a wonderful job they're doing. The Russians have learned that nobody is going to totally watch out for them but Putin is the best they're going to get in the near term so they like him. They're a practical people. The idea that they'll let somebody else tell them who to have rule them comes from total ignorance of them and their history. They'll fight for Mother Russia against the whole world if they have to: They have no other choice except extinction.

Ray tries hard, ans comes close.. but needs to become more smooth in his delivery. However, at his age, and for a westerner, he is impressive as a foreign Russian speaker.

The Soviet Union never fell apart...We were there, in the middle of it All. The Soviet Union was dismantled by Gorbachov's increadibly stupid policy... dismantled from above, by a traitor, ie Gorbachov and and his ao called opponent Yeltsin...a drunk, that at least had enough final sense, to install Putin...who brought back Russia, from the grave that Gorbachov's Perestroika had pushed in the whole of the Soviet Union.
This wasn't a Soviet failure...but the greatest modern day betrayal of any people's chosen way of life.
Westerners, will do well, to study the events, which murdered the will of the World's most loved system, by the people who lived and established the greatest State, ever run by ordinary people.
Many of us ordinary people, who saw the lights of Communism shining brightly, in the near future, left Eastern Europe... Because we also saw, the corruption of the west sip into our societies...We saw that the Communists in government had betrayed Communist principles, and where not willing to give up their positions to a younger generation of Communists. That was very difficult to accept, even when we understood the old Communist guard...of not trusting new transitions, which me ay lead towards a CIA coup d'etats... across Socialist Europe. In the End, we chose to trust our own assessments... regardless of the dangers. So, we left, ro lands as far away as possible from Europe and North America. I ended up in Australia, which even as a Washington and London concurred land, offered more freedom, when one choose Freedom above Colonisation.
So... today, for most Eastern Europeans in Australia, that lived in Eastern Europe from the 1950's onwards, till the late 70's, when Eastern Europe swolled the bitter Washington pill, of corruption, Socialism and Communism, have never died.
For Us, The Russian Federation is Now, the brighteat star, on the horizon.
Some say in the US...why don't you go and live in Russia...and we reply...If only We can. But we are even banned from visiting the Russian Federation, even for a holiday on Black Sea...where US Atackem missiles murder Russian children and their families.
DISGUSTING. AND JUST SO, TO SUGGEST WHERE WE SET OUR HOMES... When All Washington wants to do is murder civilians in Cold Blood.

You may find, that the Zelensky regime had destroyed all these graves...of all these Ukrainian heroes that defeated Hitler and his western allies.
This is one of the worst criminal acts, against the incredible effort, and the memory of a whole nation, the Ukrainian people's nation. And why did Zelensky do it? Because his Nazi allies demanded it. And Washington approved All that, in thunderous Silence. That's the Ethical, the Moral degradation of the whole western world... Ruled by Gangsters.. by Nazis, right inside Washington's White House...not white anylonger, not even by any stretch of the imagination.

Ray, the Orthodox Peists who invented the Slavic Alphabet were Bulgarians, not Macedonians. Read up the proper history of Kiril and Metody, boen in Bulgaria, from Bulgarian parents, studied in Greek dominated Istanbul, in the Orthodox church. These were Bulgarian Prists, that first gave the Bulgarians their alphabet, and then spread it across the Slavic world. So, Russians got their written language from Bulgaria .. as did the Serbs, the Croats, and all other Slavs. Later on, the Catholic church, went into Slavic nations, which were colonised by the Austro Hungarian Empire, and canged their true Slacic alphabet for a foreign Latin alphabet...a national disgrace for Slavic people, still today.
Ray is great about today's developments in Ukraine...but his knowledge of Eastern European and Russian history rests on western Propaganda and old films that scewed all of the real history.
For example, there was no such thing as 'The Dark Ages', adter the western Roman Empire fell. Actually, a much more enlightened Eastern European Empire, took over. The Bulgarian Empire lasted longer than the Roman Empire, and was far more enlightened, education focused than the Roman Empire ever was. It was very large, stretching from the Aegean and the Black Sea to the Adriatic coast of Croatia and below. Encompassing the centre of the Capital in Great Turnovo, inclusive of all Serbia, much of Greek territories, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia...and miuch more. Rhe Bulgarian Empire lasted from 678ad until the 1380's. And it wasn't just the most powerful European Empire in military terms, but in most of the scientific and enlightenment of the European development of that time. The conteast, only the Frankish Empire of Germanic tribes in the west, had any military claims in Europe. But in contrast with the Bulgarian Empire, the Francs lacked Enlightenment, and even military power.
US and western education has failed consistently to study the real, true history of Europe, after the Roman world failed. That's why they still call it the Dark Ages. Very poor, indeed. Actually disgusting.

Ray McGovern is always worth listening to. He’s one of the few political commentators currently making the rounds that doesn’t have chauvinistic baggage.
