well... I began watching this video and liked so much to go for the 6th, my interest increasing for being clear and so well edited not to make it boring, music fitting pleasently, so then I looked for the first an watched from beginning; thinking now on getting this project, even though I design and build kayaks and canoes and began saling being ten, long ago. I know could make my own design for sailing, have seen plenty of wooden boats along my life fixed quite some, yet I like to be practical when wanting to achieve a goal and this time it looks would be good
Pleased I found this series Captain, found it very interesting. Just watched all the episodes B2B: very clear at showing the processes, unfortunately you made it too easy to jump straight to the next vid without pause to like and comment. Please take it as read that I liked every vid and look forward to watching your progress. Very impressive craftsmanship too, by the way. Keep on keeping on.
Captain Wulkie's Garage , interesting work. As my boat has similar measures as yours i wonder if you can tell me how many epoxi did you need to gluing the hull. I will make a video of it to share.
Hi Capt, watched most of your build videos and am now building my own Lilou2, a Francois vivieor design, CNC cut by ChaseSmallCraft. I'm needing to bend my bow together and was wondering just how well the wet and heat method you use @1:15 works. I was thinking of getting some ploy tube roll as a steam "box". Any thoughts? Thanks. I've got a couple videos already of on progress, not near the depth or quality as yours. Thanks
Great to hear that. Please send us the links 😃. Steambending the plywood is not necessary if it is good quality marine ply. I suggest you first twist a scrap plywood to understand it's properties and then decide on next steps.
@@wulkie hi, my YT channel is jimmyboy163, and the vidios are called "Lilou2 which & glue sailboat project" hull is 9MMS okumie (?) marine ply. Thanks for the quick response.
What kind of epoxy did you use? And also did you have to wipe off the amine blush prior to epoxying back over the sections you epoxied between the zip ties?
I used a locally sources epoxy from europe, called epiphen. The sections between ZIP ties I glued în place with thickened epoxy. În my case, I used fine wood dust but there are a wide varieties of epoxy fillers. 2nd layer of epoxy is best to be applied where possible on uncured 1st layer for chemical bond. If 1st layer fully cures, you have to sand it before next layer so you get a mechanical bond. Hope this helps
this is a sailing dinghy. I got the plans from Selway Fisher. The model is called Kingfisher 14. here is the link. www.selway-fisher.com/GPDinghyover13.htm#GFI do you want to start building your own boat?
By the way...I'm making a wooden sailboat too...and a I have a question you might solve to me... I don't know correctly how to make the blade keel. You know... the part that goes under the water and stabilize the wheigt of the mast and the sail. I know I have to make a kind of...slim box inside de boat where i introduce that "blade" bit I don't know how to do propertly. I'm a spanish guy sorry for my english. And good job! ;D
Hey Cap'n! Fellow plywood-and-goo enthusiast here. Great job you got there! Question: At 2:38 you fabricate a metal staple and use it to join two panels instead of using a wire-tie. What parts are you joining and why that specific place? Thanx!
Hi. There are spots where tension is high. There I use the metal staple. Otherwise just go with the plastic because it's fast. Also, epoxy will not stick to plastic ties. Cheers!
Hi, I used plastic zip ties for most of the work. There are however spots where tension is high and I used metal wire to tight them. It is recommended you use copper wires if you plan to leave them inside the glue and cover them up with fillet and fiberglass. What I did, is i only used epoxy glue in between the stitches so that I can remove them all. let me know if this answered your question and i am happy to further assist you :)
It'l probably work but tying everything together with tiewraps made me frown a little... But then again, I'm not a boat builder... ;) Nice to watch the series!

wow, im learning soooo much here - good old cable ties are invaluable!
Best stitch&glue project on UA-cam!
Thanks Maksim! You are very kind
Dude! I've subscribe to your channel! But plis! Keep uploading boat videos! So cool.
Thanks. This is encouraging. Next video will come soon 😉
Thank you for the answer. My first thought was also that this is a Selway fisher design.
Great boat
Nice videos Captain, im building a highlander 12 fro selway fisher by this very stage
Oh, cool !! Any chance to share progress?
Captain Wulkie's Garage , i should follow your steps and record it for UA-cam, i have only pictures and a few short videos
Have a look at this other boat i build. The clip is just pictures ua-cam.com/video/SclraG9Rmc4/v-deo.html

I have used up to ep.9 around 4kg epoxy plus the hardener 0.33 mix
Great Video! How thick Was the wood?
6mm okoume marine plywood
Hello very goo job. Is this marine plywood or normal plywood?
Only marine plywood for boats! Reason is the glue used for lamination. You can keep marine plywood submerged in water for weeks without damage

No worries. It should work without steam. Send us some pics once done! Happy new year

@@mohamadrasidiahmad503 i believe you should use a pond liner (google search for it). I also did an aquaponic project and it worked like a charm.

Could this method be used to make a truck camper?
Sure. Have a look at this teardrop camper: www.pinterest.com/pin/714172453379964863/
