You skipped the part where you give the Polygon line its "border width" to make the line visible, as a beginner I was going crazy for 10 minutes because of that. Excellent video by the way, it was just what I was looking for, thank you!
Excellent video! I got so excited I stopped halfway through, spent a day adding a dozen sparks the first way, then played the rest of the video and nearly fell off my chair. In minutes, I replaced all my nodes with the BlitzFX, etc. Great exercise. Thank you!
I'm trying the first method, everything looks connected like in your video, but for some reason displace or fast noise does nothing... at the end it outputs the same straight line I made in the very first node :/
Thanks for the video :) Is there a good resource to learn how to actually install plugins? I've never needed them for anything before, and the videos I'm finding seem to seriously overcomplicate things or draw out what should be a simple process.
I'm on version 18 and it doesn't work. No movement is visible. The line stays perfectly straight. The tool "Displace" does not want to work. Is there an option to check ?
You can also instead of adding that first displace, animate a polygon mask and add a displace and multiple glow nodes, if you want a more controlled lightning bolt. of course, it is similar to the first lightning bolt you made, and you beat me to making a tutorial for it. Congratulations.
That would definitely work! I have a weird obsession with making things procedurally, which is why I used the two displaces. But animating it would give a lot more control.
I'm following this tutorial to the letter, but several things are missing in the first minute that are messing up everything. 1) The background color won't switch to white. The viewer stays black. Yes, the Background node is selected. 2) The Polygon does not appear in the viewer and the background doesn't switch to the checkboxes. After playing around, I did get the Polygone to appear over the black background by clicking on the Polygon node, but it keeps disappearing when I click outside of the node. 3) When I go to change the Fastnoise setting, the Polygon disappears and the changes aren't present when I select the Polygon again. I did select all the nodes, but that doesn't help and on your screen, they're so close together that I can't tell if anything is connected. Obviously, I'm new to Fusion, but you missed some basic steps, so there's no point in going further as everything builds off these initial steps. Please advise.
I agree. I have my displace selected and can see the Polygon after giving it a border width, but my background won't go white and any changes that I make to the displace or fast noise don't affect the Polygon at all. I have everything connected as in the video too and the settings for the displace and fast noise are the same as the vid
Help! When I render my project, the exported video goes to black with only a few bits of sparks showing once it gets to the point where I put them into my project. Once it gets past the sparks, everything else appears once again.
Hi! Thanks for this tutorial - longtime editor here who's avoided Fusion for quite some time. Followed version 2 exactly, and in Fusion tab everything looks glowy and great, but back in the edit tab the fusion composition clip has the lightning but no color or glow. I've tried it on top of clips or alone, and with each overlay option. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!
OK, solved it but I still don't know exactly why it worked - I just made a new background node, copy pasted the effects to that one, and dragged the new attempt to the media out. Learning!
Is it possible to slow down the lightning? i am trying to use it inside my new "bar" at the bottom for my stream, and right now it is giving me stress to look at xD
Nice Video. Looks good. I have been working on some lightning effects as well for an upcoming video on my channel. I don't use reactor ( try to stay with the core resolve tools), but may need to checkout some of the tools that you can get with it.
Hey man! Awesome video like everyone I’m kinda a noob to fusion. How did you make two lighting bolts come out both your hands? I got one down and tracked but I am struggling to add the second lighting bolt in the 2nd hand. This is for my buddy music video. Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
I am trying to follow you lightning video, i am a novice to resolve. i have reactor installed, I added those plugins, I added the background node, but do not see or understanf how you add the other nodes or effects. sorry for the noob question. thanks
Just stumbled across your videos and I think I’ve watched almost all of them. Do you know if there is a trackable pin tool like in after effects? I’m trying to do Harry Potter type spells but the thing that makes them look so fake is that the tail doesn’t move with the wand unless you animate it to… but then the whole thing moves. I’d love a pin tool sort of like what the blitz plug-in does.
There are a couple of things you can try. If you have the studio version of Resolve you can try playing around with the warper node, it looks similar to the puppet pin in After Effects. I've never used it so I don't know if you can track the points, but it might work. If you have the free version, you could try playing around with the grid warp tool.
One at a time. To add a tool, press Shift+Space. In the bottom-left corner of the screen it should say what version it is (for this video it was 16). There isn't usually much difference between versions, so if you are on a different version you can probably still follow along. To see the effect on screen you can select the node you want to see and press 1 or 2. I'm sorry if I didn't go into enough detail, and if you're still confused there are a lot of great beginner Fusion tutorials out there.
So the tutorial let me achieve what I needed, and I learned a few things on the way... but it was really hard to follow. You are clicking too fast, and it's easy to miss some crucial step.
This is terrible -at 0:20 you instruct on creating a strait line but don't show how to do this and therefore everything else that follows goes to hell. This is awful and only frustrates someone trying to learn how to use fusion. Now I am absolutely turned off and scared of fusion because there is n't any hope of being able to follow along and have a rewarding outcome. I had to once again go back to AE to get a simple lightning effect for a kids video.
I'm really sorry, I filmed that step but accidentally cut it out in editing and didn't notice until the video was uploaded. To make the line, with the polygon click on the screen and add two points. Then bring up the border width to give it thickness. I actually show that step in this video ua-cam.com/video/-xaDnW6tY9w/v-deo.html Really sorry about that, and I hope you give Fusion another chance. There are alot of great beginner tutorials out there. There is a bit of a learning curve at first, but once you get the hang of it you can make some really cool stuff.
@@NomadRProductions Thank you! It would be nice to have those very minor details. Do you know where I can download some plugins without having to pay more money ?
I'll try to be better about including stuff like that :) A great plug-in is reactor. It's a free plug-in library that gives you access to tons of great plug-ins! Here's a video on how to install it: ua-cam.com/video/08L2C-54oYg/v-deo.html

DUDE THANK YOU!!!!
I was absolutly lost until I read this comment. Thank you!
Man thank you so much for such an advanced Davinci Resolve Tutorial!
Excellent video! I got so excited I stopped halfway through, spent a day adding a dozen sparks the first way, then played the rest of the video and nearly fell off my chair. In minutes, I replaced all my nodes with the BlitzFX, etc. Great exercise. Thank you!
This is the 2nd time i use this tutorial. PLEASE NEVER TAKE IT DOWN!
Thank you I really enjoyed following this!
amazing man didnt even know i could do that with davinci
I'm trying the first method, everything looks connected like in your video, but for some reason displace or fast noise does nothing... at the end it outputs the same straight line I made in the very first node :/
Hello whenever I downloaded xglow blitz and stuff from reactor they don’t show up in fusion? Any way to fix this, is it because of a davinci update?
I figured it out nvm
Thanks for the video :) Is there a good resource to learn how to actually install plugins? I've never needed them for anything before, and the videos I'm finding seem to seriously overcomplicate things or draw out what should be a simple process.

Very Dope
any idea why everything looks fine in viewer, but once its rendered the lightning background shows back up in the video?
I can't see my background :( can you help me?

Select Tool shortcut: Shift Space
Fast Noise -> button next to background button that war pressed earlier
how do you make the playback speed for it faster once you apply it to your video
the effect doesn’t stay applied with merge when i transfer back to edit page
Dude this is SOOO cool!!!! How did you come up with this?
im confused, how do you add a line in the fusion tab, sorry, im not sure? please help
Do you mean when I drew the line at 0:21? I used a polygon node. I put two points on either side, and then increased the border width.
how can I put this on video? not green screen.
Help! When I render my project, the exported video goes to black with only a few bits of sparks showing once it gets to the point where I put them into my project. Once it gets past the sparks, everything else appears once again.
Getting rid of the Tintensity nodes seems to have solved the problem.
I'm new to dacinci resolve how do you bring up the select tool menu?
Shift + Space
is there a way to only use one or two different lightingstrikes from blitzfxlite instead of the constant changing?
You just catch my curiosity. (Subscribed). :))
So I installed reactor but when i go in to install the plug ins, they don't show up. Is there something im doing wrong?
Same prob here
Hi can you please update this Video for DaVinci 19 ?
how do I make multipole versions of the node to make a complete lighting effect
0:39 pressing equals does nothing for me! it just writes equals sign into the field, how did you do it?
= then Enter

can you put the link to the plugins I dont know where to download them?
Amazing video, please may you tell me how you can track the lightning to an object
Nice Video. Looks good. I have been working on some lightning effects as well for an upcoming video on my channel. I don't use reactor ( try to stay with the core resolve tools), but may need to checkout some of the tools that you can get with it.
the plug ins are not free anymore or atleast i can not find them
is there anyway u can stop the edges staying in the exact same spot with blitz
Thats cool but how do I track both points of blitz so it looks good???
Hey man! Awesome video like everyone I’m kinda a noob to fusion. How did you make two lighting bolts come out both your hands? I got one down and tracked but I am struggling to add the second lighting bolt in the 2nd hand. This is for my buddy music video. Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
Omg nvm I figured it out. My pc must have been slow to load the bolt and I jumped to conclusions. Awesome video!! Keep it up
I am trying to follow you lightning video, i am a novice to resolve. i have reactor installed, I added those plugins, I added the background node, but do not see or understanf how you add the other nodes or effects. sorry for the noob question. thanks
No problem! Press Shift + Space. That'll bring up the Select tool menu. Then just type in the tool you want and press enter.
my Blitz node is not showing up whenever I put it on the timeline
Make sure you have a background node going into it. The Blitz node needs a background input in order to show up.

Hey man awesome tutorial!
However can you tell how you make the lightning come out of the hand?
quick question, how do i compile this over footage since the background makes it so i cant place the lightning effect itself over it.
You just have to change the apply mode from Normal to Screen.
@@NomadRProductions How do you do that
What’s your version ?
I used 16, but you should still be able to follow in 17.
@@NomadRProductions I use 17 but Its not the same ;c
IM NOT ABLE TO GET XGLOW FROM REACTOR INTO FUSION,PLEASE HELP
were you able to get it figured out?
what to connect and how to get a certain tool on or what version hes on and how to bring the thing up on the screen without connecing it to media out
One at a time. To add a tool, press Shift+Space. In the bottom-left corner of the screen it should say what version it is (for this video it was 16). This is a great video helped a lot, but when I added the XGlow it made the lightning choppy.
the line wont bend i did everything right the line wont move
I think you have to set "seethe rate" for fast noise. I'm struggling with the tutorial myself just now.
:O
I did exactly what you said step by step and didnt get the same out come. This software hates me
Super helpful video, keep it up! Do you have any recommendations on tutorials for adding the lightning into a video? Thanks!
0:23 how did you go to the select tool menu?
Shift + Space
man why do I use gimp, when I can use davinci
am i the only one having trouble i followed the video perfectly and my polygon isnt there ive been messing with it for a while
works on free version?
Yes, I made this using the free version.
Is there a way to make the lightning slower
Make it a fusion compound clip and change speed of clip
where do I get the plugs ins?
All of the plugins are available on Reactor: www.steakunderwater.com/wesuckless/viewtopic.php?t=3067
tut how to get the plugs
coool
What’s the website to download
You can download all the plugins on Reactor: www.steakunderwater.com/wesuckless/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1775
