It's good to know that others struggle with late Autumn challenges when the leaves fall. Truly appreciate the thoughts on the approach and seeing viable images.
Thank goodness you confirmed what I've been thinking Thomas. I thought it was just me that was experiencing leaves only just changing colour and then already falling off the trees in significant numbers...so much for me getting more autumnal photography in this year. Perhaps you could upgrade your van to the loaner van, sell your current van to give Adam Gibbs's a better van...then happy landscape photog's all round...just a thought like 😊. Thanks for the video. Take care.
I think the first image worked better than the final image on this occasion Tom, to me had a more autumnal vibe to it. Hopefully your trip up North will be productive and nature is holding on to its colour for you to bag some images
Scotland has the best colours this year that I’ve ever seen and continues to do so as of 30/10/24. I hope you manage to choose the right location next time you are out 🤞.
Worry not my friend, if it's not autumn in your place anymore, you can always go further south where it hasn't fully hit yet. In France it's usually at its peak in early november in the northern regions (at sea level ofc) and late november in the south of the country. Or next year you could do what I do, visit Scandinavia in september, to have autumn enjoyment there, then have it a second time coming home.
Thomas I think your were suffering from Seperation Anxiety as you Delica was not there!! I like the 2nd image with the birch trees and the remaining leaves.
Autumn is still happening in the south :) too windy in the mountains. You need to visit the fen lands. 2m below sea level we don't get the gusts you get in the mountains. You should hit up local man Stewart McGlennon. If anybody knows the best autumn spots in the lakes that guy probably does
Strange thing is thomas, last week i i drove from wales to glen affric and the colours were still fanrastic there, but on the way up i saw how the leaves had gone in England!
Tom, I heard some !@#$% recently disrespect you for removing unnecessary things out of your images to improve or restore the beauty in your works. That is what artusts do to simplify and remove people man made objects and things to make art work like all artist throughout the history. Keep up the good work.
Have you tried any vertical panning ICM shots? About 1 second shutter at 100mm or so? Makes great use of the exposed tree trunks and splashes of leaf color remaining.
Thomas, when you say you struggled to get an image at a beautiful place, do you solely mean a wide-angle landscape? I find there’s a huge array of images in dull situations simply by zooming in. In fact, you could argue the more you zoom, the closer to a guarantee you are for an image (as in, you get closer to abstract detail shots, or even macro)
Thank you for the lovely, inspirational videos. I am just coming back into photography and I need to get a tripod and head. I mainly take stills/panos of the landscape. Is your recommendation still a IFOOTAGE Gazelle TC7 and Acrotech pano head? Seems a lot of money. Don't want to make a mistake :) Thanks again.
I was watching carefully here in Belgium to make sure I didn’t miss the best colours. But it seemed to change overnight from green & brown to dead n brown! No inspiring colours at all.. Now hanging dead leaves
Tom: I have not read any comments so what I write is unbiased. Your last 2 words of the title you wrote are "Autumn Photography". This had none of that. I am certain you will get tons of commenters telling you this is some of the best they ever saw. Just like they hated my comments on your wind is great video, they won't like me here any better. This video was made from desperation to shill for your advertiser as the video had zero autumn photography in it. I am sure you are under contract and pressure as you must produce something for the advertiser or you don't get paid. That said, why not name the video, I failed to find autumn and so I will shoot naked trees? That would have resolved all issues. I hope this helps, but may the fanboys begin their attack and tell me how me telling you the truth is hateful.
@@ianmcdiarmid4563 Wow, you are a real thinker. Let's see, not watch the show and never know what I missed or watch it and leave a valuable comment to help Tom, but then get to deal with inept individuals like yourself? That is a dilemma... for you.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Every comment I leave is meant to help. Sometimes, harshness or directness is needed to make the point come alive. You did not disagree with my points that led to the conclusion. I'm also glad you are at least recognizing not everyone has to fall at your feet with praise for you to hear them. There is hope.
This may sound silly, possibly with a bit of OCD kicking in, but I wanted to congratulate you on pronouncing "Autumnal" correctly -three syllables. Most people try to add a 4th syllable - "Autuminal." Thank you!!

The strong contrast between the two trees helps a lot, I think. Maybe not the best you have done but totally honourable. 😀
love autumn colour
Me too. I'm still hopeful 👍
Think the first image was the best of the two, lovely atmospheric scene
In my neighborhood , the autumn has been beautiful 🇬🇧
Where's your neighbourhood? To be fair, there is still plenty around, just not where I was on this day.
Same here in Norway, autumn colors lasted very short this year. Dident expect the same in the UK though.
I don't think it's all across the UK, just the pocket that I had chosen to shoot.
Great video man, love the effort to make it work at the end of fall colors. I’ve been there and felt thoroughly discouraged haha.
Really fab, love your vids
Indeed 🍂🍁
Absolutely love your first image: nice pallet of colors. I find the last image too busy. As usual, really enjoyed your video.
Beautiful, Thomas
Many thanks!
It's hardly even started here in France. Everything is still green
Loved the first image, not so keen on the second. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing. Good topic. ❤❤❤❤❤
It's been beautiful autumn colours where I am. Just no time to go out and find a location worth shooting.
You should try and get down here to Cannock chase, there is still loads of Birch trees in colour.
Thanks!
Thank you for this gesture. It's very much appreciated.

It's okay! Not one of the better images, but considering all the obstacles, it's far better than my pics. I need photical therapy! 😊
Hi Thomas, you should come to Poland next year to shoot Polish Golden Autumn.
Thomas I think your were suffering from Seperation Anxiety as you Delica was not there!! I like the 2nd image with the birch trees and the remaining leaves.
You were clutching at straws!,,😊
Look at that tree standing in the lake at 3:38…..should be a nice subject

You always make the most if your situations Thomas. Maybe a bit busy. Too bad you didn’t have some fog to help your separation. Anyway, job well done!
Thanks a lot. I've not had fog for ages.
I like the fern shot.
Thank you. Me too.
I’m sure “Autumn” was wondering where you were! 😂
Boy, I thought I'd missed the autumn around my place, but this is even worse.

Your recent addition of before/after images makes me wonder if you plan to resume your editing series. Well?
No plans, but it makes a nice add on to the end of the video 👍

Oh I've been waiting for Autumn colours - have I missed them? The square silver tree shot is just ok, sorry.
Thanks for your feedback, yes it was a tough day. Fingers crossed for better next week.
Hey, where's the Hasselblad?
I was watching carefully here in Belgium to make sure I didn’t miss the best colours. But it seemed to change overnight from green & brown to dead n brown! No inspiring colours at all.. Now hanging dead leaves
In the uk you can just stay in the park over night?
I love the first image but the second one was way too busy for my taste.
Thought I was the first!
4.55 I feel the old thomas heaton would have got an image here I'm not bitching I'm a long time subscriber I feel like you're over thinking

Don't watch it then, plenty other videos out there.
I disagree. Struggling with Autumn photography is a fitting title. Appreciate your feedback none the less, helping keep me on the straight and narrow.

Photos taken during autumn are by definition autumn photography regardless of the state of the leaves and trees.
