that volume transition got me groovin lol
Pretty funky wasn't it 😂
@@_ben_sweet it happened again after I posted this lol.
When the beat drops
WHAT, CAN'T HEAR YOU? WHATEVER KEEP RIDING!
In ireland we just call this "riding"
Haha so true
Same in Scotland,
The big plus of an obviously dry summer's day...all the gear I leave at home.
scup the lads!
Was going to like but youre on 69 so i cant
As a U.K. rider can you do a vid of how to ride in the dry? 🙃
Surgical gloves under regular gloves will keep your hands warm and dry. Clean pivots, forks and callipers of crud immediately after every ride.
I love the surgical glove idea, I've seen it in use but never had to use it myself. Dru weather riding coming up! When it's dry... -Christina
Christina is REALLY .... the toughest guy on the trails... her videos are spot on!!
Always love a wet manky ride,In Scotland we call this SUMMER
Can't wait to get to SCotland, hopefully next fall for EWS! I'll make sure to pack alllll my wet weather gear -Christina
You will Love it Christina
Some of the best riding in the UK and of course Fort Bill
We do have a summer obviously
Last year it was a Tuesday 😂loving your videos 🤘🏻
I used to avoid riding in the wet season / winter, until this year where I've been riding all year long and not a single regret. Even went on a ride once when it was pouring from the heavens. It was super fun in its own way. Of course nothing beats riding in the dry. But riding in the wet is great to stay fit and to train those reflexes when it inevitably starts sliding.
hahah love it! There is something special about being absolutely drenched and still able to enjoy the ride. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger?? -Christina
Where I live, our wet season is just starting. Good video, good timing.
Same! Straight from winter to a wet spring, usually. Enjoy it! -Christina
I'm from Germany and riding in all conditions, we have all kind of trails around my village and it's just fun to ride.
I also got me now a waterproof trousers, so I don't need to ride in Jeans anymore if it's rain.
Loving this video
Eine wasserdichte Hose könnte ich auch vertragen, das Problem ist halt dass sich das Wetter zurzeit ständig plötzlich ändert.
Da weiß man nie was man anziehen soll.
Christina is just so cool and she rips also! love it thanks for the tips.
Why thank you! -Christina
I like riding in the rain and wet but I'm paranoid that I'm putting more damage on my FS. Definitely less worried about taking the hardtail out. With how hard parts are to get these days I'm super careful about wearing anything out.
Christina is a shredder! Excellent addition to pinkbike!
most things are fine. but now isn't the time to be wearing out a drivetrain. shimano are shit with their stock levels right now, haven't ridden my hardtail in over a month because i need a derailleur.
Me sitting there thinking I would never send too hard in the wet. I look down and see my broken wrist and remembering the last snowy day I was out riding didnt end so well. LOL
Thanks for the awesome info, perfect timing for us here in NZ. Thanks particularly for the trail awareness and the damage that can be done on wet muddy surfaces
Nothing beats gal’s organization!
Some wet weather tips form an AT thru hiker.
1) Wool sucks when it's wet also, just less.
2) You are getting wet, your jacket is to keep you warm, not dry. (If the rain won't get you sweat will)
--*Panchos and skirts were the best, but probably bad for MTB due to getting hung up in the bike.
3) Waterproof shoes just stay wet longer. (maybe not applicable for a short ride)
I've used 3/4 thin diving wetsuit during last year EWS in Zermat as I had all clothing wet from training. Sweaty but extremly comfy in temps around zero and water everywhere.
Definitly recomending!^^
WOW! That is hardcore! The weather looked super intense there. I hope no one got hypothermia -Christina
I work since 2013 as a bike courier in Italy, northern part, it's not B.C. but in winter can be wet and cold.
For the feet I use Sealskinz waterproof socks, not the most comfortable and soft, but they have like 3 layers and work great. If the situation is bad I add Gore Bike socks over the Sealskinz, basically socks wich are just a layer of gore-tex preventing from rain and wet.
With this combo I had dry feet after 8 hours of cycling in pouring rain.
A shoe with more leather than fabric/mesh prevent the water to pass too easily through the shoe.
Endura waterproof pants, a good jacket (15/20.000 mm waterproof, at least 10.000 g / m² breathability), Sealskinz waterproof all season cap and I'm fully kitted for a wet day in the office.
I took a tip from my granddad's generation and got a plastic poncho. Thumbs through two corners, and sit on the back of it so the hungry, hungry wheel doesn't start nibbling at it. Not perfect, but it's a good last resort, dries quickly and packs up small. Also useful for sitting on!
Not carving big ruts in soft, wet tracks is a salient point I wish more people would observe: same for going around, it just widens the mess. Go easy, go gentle, but do go.
Granddad knows what's up! It reminded me of many wet days at the bike park haha Plastic bags have their purpose -Christina
Great video!! Thanks!! Love!!
I have a fool proof method of dealing with wet rides, it's called the "wait for a better day" method, works every time.
Thanks for the advice!
This video didn’t cover stream/river crossings...that’s the kind of wet I’d like to see more about. Like how to avoid soaked river shoes
Thank you Christina,
Just to tell you, that sometimes we ride in some serious rain gear. Not a plastic garbage bag, but close to it with my bright yellow rain gear!!!
Last weekend I decided to drive to the Oregon Coast and try out some trails. Well, it decided to pour down rain on me, so I put my yellow (with reflective stripes) rain pants and coat on. I did not tear up the trails, but I did ride one called "The Puddle". Couple of days later I rode the Coast Mountain Range (MacDonald Research Forest) where there are great maintained trails. Some are closed to bikes due to the winter rains, but some stay open, especially the logging roads. Just as I was arriving it started to hail and then rain. I put on my rain pants and rain coat, got on my bike, and then the rain stopped. I do have a light weight waterproof rain jacket stuffed in my pack, so I threw the heavier wet one in my truck. As I was riding the sun came out and I was hot and took off my rain pants and stuffed them in my pack. Anyway, this is the way the whole hour Dimple Hill climb went. On the crazy flying ride down it started raining a bit, threatening a downpour, so I put my lightweight jacket on and flew down the mountain!!!
This is biking in Oregon.
P.S. 12.75 miles/2 1/2 hour climb today, without a bit of rain - in fact I had to take off my layered jackets - but you NEVER leave them behind, you stuff them into your backpack. I was pretty sweaty and it was getting cold so I put on my outer jacket and flew down the mountain!!!! Sometimes I don't know which is better the 2 hour climb or the 1/2 hour flight down!!!
Christina Buffeta 💪💪💪💪
That’s our summer kit in the uk 🇬🇧
hahaha YES! I thought you might say that... -Christina
in Ireland you are not going anywhere without a full size mudguard in the front, other than that, good tips...I would add one more, try one of those dirt suits, is a life savior for really bad days, I've 2 of them from Dirtlej
Helpful tips, thank you!
Excellent video and great advice, we all want to keep riding all year long...
2:36 I love this shot
Awesome tip...thanks n happy riding....
I ride my bike to work at night in the rain. Then it usually isn't raining the next morning or vice versa.
So I just wear a top raincoat and tights on the bottom. Then I hang everything up near a furnace to dry. I work at a foundry do there are plenty of hot places to hang clothes. If I ride home in the rain I just pop everything in the dryer.
Our trails get messed up when it rains so I stay off them.
Good shout! When I used to commute on the bike in the rain I'd have a very similar setup and was lucky to have a warm spot to dry everything before kitting up again to go home -Christina
I only tuned in for Christina, I’m from the uk, I know about the wet already 😂
Great content!!! Like always!! Talk about your wheels please.
Some questions were answered today. Thanks Christina! Hey, what you ride in park? We only see you riding the slash in your vids.
I have a Session! Looking for any chance to get it out these days, hopefully soon ;-) But for now, building fitness on the pedals for spring time -Christina
Anyone know the name/brand of the glasses she’s rockin in this vid?
I think the goggles are from 100% and the model is called speedcraft.
I'm so used to riding mudbath trails in N.Ireland most of the year that I actually crash more when it gets dusty in the summer! Dryness such a strange concept here!
I miss content like that this, I feel like before pinkbike was about the sport vs now which feels like it’s about the industry
Thanks for this great vidéo
Costa Rica has about 6 months of wet season. The tricky stuff is that what's "breathable" is never truly "impermeable" .... So when you combine 35C temperatures with a tropical pour-down, things get interesting inside your rain jacket.....
However, if you have something on that keeps the temperature in, you won't be cold.
And you don't think about "waterproof" in tropical weather. You just get shoes that let the water out and wear nylon socks that are tight and cannot more around on your feet (e.g. Fox DH/XC socks are perfect, they give a "dry feel" even when completely wet.
Just my take on "wet weather" from someone closer to the Equator ...
Oh ... and 27.5 + (2.8) is my best personal bet with Cushcore and 18-20 PSI for the wet stuff.... 15PSI for really slimy stuff works well...
Love this info! As someone from the south of the US, really good tips! I love riding in the summer rain and can usually be stuck out with no jacket and be quite happy -Christina
@@pinkbike I live on 400m altitude and rides range between 0-2000m depending on where I go. Sometimes I have burning sun at 1000 and at 1500 it is cold, fog and rain.
So I absolutely always have one of those super-light jackets (Pearl Izumi) in my backpack..... they don't take much space and weigh almost nothing.
But yep, I am from Europe and I didn't mind the summer showers..... maybe I just got old :P haha
I always take a bin (trash) bag roll. I keep some 90 litre ones in the car they can fit a bike wheel in, cover a car seat, makeshift mud bib, and all the wet clothes.
Eye drops. On a wet sandy ride I pulled my fogged goggles off and filled my eyes with grit. My contact wearing friend had eye drops so I could wash my eyes out. That would have been a awful 3hour drive home otherwise.
Mud guards, even those little front ones keep your face clear for longer.
i broke my collarbone last week after crashing on a rockgarden during rainy days.
the mud clay sucks here in asia
@@ark8tct thank you 😊
Why am I watching this. I live in Australia
u have to come to colombia hahah right here we never know when is gonna rain ...
You should make a video on how to ride snow
Fat Bike?? Or just let'r buck! Not much you can do to stay in control with the snow from my experience -Christina
@@pinkbike I am talking about a regular bike
Natural born presenter!
Here, in Israel we call this kind of weather "apocalypse" and even don't trying to go out of home :)))
Wales yup always wet! Personally I don’t like washing all the oil off my bike into fresh water!
Wasn’t even wet while filming?
Riding in wet/ slippery/ winter conditions will improve your summer riding a ton! And it'll keep you fit through the off-season.
As I always say: A wet day of riding is still better than a dry day of working.
Fact! I really feel like riding super dry and dusty conditions is very similar to the wet bc you've got to let the bike slide around and not be too forceful -Christina
@@pinkbike not the same though. Go ask Cali-boy Aaron Gwin. 😜
I'm in NC but in the mountains and it rains here more than the UK (just checked) and nearly as much as Seattle. And yet I get so much grief online in local MTB groups for riding in the wet. What's that all about? Literally all of my favorite MTB videos are in BC and it's never dry. So why is it cool there but ethically impermissible here? It's not like I'm riding obviously muddy trails just a puddle here and maybe there is a mud patch every half mile or so. I don't even ride when it's raining, just days later. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
How does she know about the sock drawer
Good video. Which tires do you prefer in such conditions?
This day I was running the Schwalbe Magic Mary up front and Big Betty in the rear...always super soft compound if possible but I've got the soft in the back for now and it still works great -Christina
@@pinkbike ....and 29x2,3“ ?
But how'd she know my sock drawer is a mess? 😕
Windrock... Always wet clay trails... never closed
How can you possibly clean your oily chain in a river????
here the summer is ending, and the winter is really cold and dry...
how to survive wet weather riding ,but we will do it without rain. in the meantime in uk , Scotland and Ireland , how to survive dry weather riding
yes please lol, perfect.
Water in cockpit.
Water in stems....
Water under grips. Whitish color
Bolts....
All my local trails are clay, and like to stick to everything.
Bib or chamois? Is it just personal preference or are there any advantages on one over the other? Pros/cons?
Hold on ! Did you just mention that some people do not organize their sock drawer ? There are some sick and twisted individuals out there ! Sickening
Anyone knows the name of those goggles at 3:57 ?
I'm rocking the 100% Speedcraft this day -Christina
sorry, but where do you put the bucket during the climb ?! 😆😅lol
hahaha stash in the woods?? Luckily the truck was at the end of the trail -Christina
4:12 what happened to the music there?
Live/ride in the southwest. What's water?
Yeeah bc 🙌
What brand glasses are you wearing?
I think the goggles are from 100% and the model is called speedcraft.
Good tips but I wouldn’t wash my bike in the stream out of concern for the environment.
You guys got a sound cue wrong. 😂
"Get out for a rip, bud?"
I’m first ur awsome
Keep a paint brush in your pack theyre great for cleaning your bike in a stream.
Shorts every ride no matter the weather 😈
Bit late on this video ey.
вариант с пакетом наверное самый практичный)))
also don't forget to bring extra underwear. 😂
wait for the Sun ;)
The only time she got wet was when she went to the river😂
Only about 4 months late but whatever
It’s always raining somewhere!
This is just nonsense. My cyclocross/gravel bike has never touched rain nor gravel, never will, and that's the proper usage of an urban gravel bike.
Or just don’t go
kinda useless watching this video as i live in Australia
First
So cool
