Hi Laura I don’t have a butterfly bush but I wanted to watch this video to learn. It always amazes me why you don’t have more UA-cam following. The knowledge you share is just invaluable. You provide in-depth detail which most gardening channels do not. I’ve learned so much from this channel which I’m truly grateful. ❤
Why thank you so much Sammy! You just made my week! 😊My channel is slowly growing, and I'm happy more gardeners are finding me as they search for gardening help. I'll keep doing what I'm doing! 💞🌺
😮😮😮😢😮😮😢😢😢😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😮😢😢😮😢😢Elon posted a poll on Twitter to get an honest poll not corrupted by the news stations and look at the numbers on a REAL poll. It's what we all knew.... overwhelmingly Trump! These sponsored polls on the left wing news stations of just a couple thousand selected voters showing kamala right there in a race with Trump trying to make it appear like people who just months ago who have all clearly stated and shown that she has had the worst approval rating of any VP ever are now all of a sudden voting for her thinking anything will be different than the last 4 years we just had!? Yeah right! Thank you again, Elon, for showing America the uncensored truth! By the way this poll had 2 million people vote not just a few "selected" thousand.... a real representation!😢😢😢😢
You're welcome Jennifer -- and thank you for the feedback! 😊 I hope you enjoy gorgeous butterfly bush flowers -- and their wonderful scent -- all season long! 🦋
Thank you for this video! Seeing examples of the way that multiple cones of flowers can grow off of a single stem, and how to deadhead them while saving the other growth really helped me. I'm a visual learner so reading about it isn't enough. I watched a couple of other butterfly bush deadheading videos before I got to yours but yours was the most helpful video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
You're welcome, and it's my turn to thank you! 🤗 I apologize for not responding sooner, but want to tell you how much I appreciate your feedback. I'm a visual learner too, so I always go into each video I'm creating with this in mind: how do I make a video that "I" would want to watch and learn from? That is one stunning pair of butterfly bush(es) Laura! Each blooms is 😍😍😍😍. I’m waiting for the white dwarf Pugster butterfly bush to plant in my garden….but your blue panicles look so beautiful 🤩. I’m also in for sterile blooms as well. 💚🙏🪴
Thanks Tracy! 🥰 Those Pugster butterfly bushes are SO adorable, and the white will look very pretty in your garden! And yes: no need for little seeds! 🙃🙂🌱🦋
I’m in central NC and we have red clay soil. I just planted my first butterfly bushes. I have 2 that are in a raised bed and I have 2 that aren’t. I mixed up some of the clay soil with a soil amender and planted them mounded. They look very happy and the butterflies love it too!! ❤❤❤. I’m turning my yard into pollinator plants. ❤
Hi Tracey -- It sounds like you planted them perfectly! I hope you get years and years of enjoyment from your butterfly bushes -- and that the pollinators do too! 🦋💙
So pretty. I planted a few smaller varieties this year above ground level, as you described here. So far, so good. Thanks! Off to use those links. My daughter already claimed the pink gloves 😁 🌼🦋
That’s funny that your daughter claimed those gloves already! 🙂 I’d like to add a smaller butterfly bush variety, as I really like how they look. Which kind do you have? 🦋

Hummingbirds and butterflies love my BBs. Sometimes the scent is so strong it almost chokes me. Make me cough but I would not be without them. Excellent information.
Hi Carol, glad this video was helpful! I love how hummingbirds and butterflies (and bees too) are all over my butterfly bushes during the Summer. I just wish I had them planted closer to my windows so I could watch from inside! That's surprising that the scent is strong on yours, but perhaps different varieties have different scent strengths. I'm happy mine seem to have a soft scent. (For me, lilacs are very strong and make me cough.)
My one butterfly bush I inherited with house ..it’s probably 10+ yrs old ..this year cut way back n looks fabulous 👍. I’m going to purchase these new ones ..Thanks 👌
Hi Laura, I’m so glad I watched your video about pruning my butterfly bush. I took your advice & waiting until spring. The Bees didn’t want me near the bush anyway. lol. So what do you think landed on my butterfly bush this morning… a beautiful huge Monarch butterfly. He hung around a long time enjoying its nectar. I love my garden & all its wonder. Hi Linda! Good plan to wait until Spring for pruning. And how wonderful seeing the Monarch - I am always filled with awe each and every time I see one! It never gets old. 🦋
They look great! I normally enjoy deadheading, but not this year. It’s been so hot and wet, the mosquitoes are insane. I’m surprised I don’t have malaria.
You're welcome Liz! This variety (True Blue Butterfly Bush) is a sterile variety, meaning it does not produce any seeds -- so I never have to worry about seedlings! 🦋 I'm not sure I'd want to necessarily plant more butterfly bushes from seed, as it might take awhile until they grow to a nice shrub-like size. However, I'm sure there are gardeners who have successfully done it. 😃 The gloves are made by CoolJobs, and if you scroll back up into the "description box" area, I have a link to them on Amazon so you can see what they look like and read more info about them. Thanks for the feedback, Kendall - I appreciate it! Sometimes it’s hard to decide which part of the video should go first: the background on the shrub and why it should be deadheaded (and if it needs to be) or the actual deadheading. That’s why I put chapter sections in the description so viewers can jump right to the section they want, if they don’t care about the rest of the information. Nonetheless, I appreciate your comment and will keep it in mind! 👍🙂🦋
Hi. I’m learning so much from your channel and just wanted to reach out and thank you.🙏 My young butterfly bush has some yellow leaves, so I’m wondering if you have any advice on why the leaves are yellowing, and how I should tackle it?
As you're going into the Winter season, you'll get a bit of yellowing leaves. It can be from too much water and nothing more than that, as well as the plant starting to wind down for the Winter season. Perhaps cut back a bit on watering it, and see if that helps. You can pick off the yellow leaves too, as it won't harm the plant. I hope this helps! Please keep me posted.
Hi Pat, yes they can be potted into large containers! Which variety did you purchase? Some grow much larger than others, so if you purchase a dwarf size it will keep longer in a container than some of the larger ones that may need to be either potted up into an even larger container or planted in the ground. Let me know what you decided to do and which variety you have! 😀🦋
