Forgotten? Hell no! That show was epic, and it's baked into the childhood of anyone who grew up in the seventies! Heck, they even made a movie in 2009!
I was born in 81,I know it exists but have never seen it And guessing the farther you go less and less people know it exists.its cool you love it,but it’s forgotten or close to it.
This show really needs a proper reboot. Not that Will Farell blasphemy, but a dark show like the original. There’s a LOT you can do with the pylons, Sleestak, and other people/creatures who get caught in the Land.
The Nick series was actually rather good, and and, I believe, ended up axed due to budget issues since it was expensive to make. There's also the few scripts that got canned because they, initially, wanted to tie it, heavily, into the original series as more of a TNG style continuation where they have Holly as a main cast member introduced later on in it and more consistent with the first seasons of the original, but there were other issues and they decided to go with making it a more distinct universe. If you want something relatively similar in theme, though more aimed at an older audience, "Sir Arthur Conan Doyles The Lost World" was a very interesting one that was more heavily based on Land of the Lost than the book the characters were semi-based off of.
As a channel that makes land of the lost content, and the moderator of the Land of the Lost subreddit, thank you for making this video! I always love seeing more young fans out there. I discovered the series in the exact same way as you as a kid, with my siblings, flipping through tv. Been obsessed ever since. We would love to have you over in the subreddit, could I share this video there?
Great review! There is so little Land of the Lost content on UA-cam, your review made me want to rewatch the show. But one nitpick, why did you leave out The Zarn? It's probably my favourite villain on the show. Personal favoritisms aside, I like your style a lot, keep up the good work!
I was one of those kids in the 70's who watched the show. About 10 years ago, I rented the series on DVD from Netflix. All those years later, it was still great fun! SPOILER ALERT: About the Confederate soldier: he actually did reappear in a later episode... sort of. In season 3, Holly meets the Medusa, the she-monster from Greek mythology whose gaze turns living things to stone. She shows Holly around her statue collection, which includes, unfortunately, a certain soldier. Holly recognizes him and is quietly horrified.
Man you are coming at the right time. The algorithm is finally favoring smaller channels. Just saw your Universal Monsters video and excited to see this show getting some attention. Love it.
Checked your channel after the Universal Monsters vid and just seeing this title got you a sub. I’ll never forgive swim team for making me miss these repeats on Saturday mornings.
Original watcher here. As pre SW 70s kids - our minds weren't blown by the effects, but we just accepted the reality/irreality of it all. We didn't have electronic toys and there was a recession so we didn't have that many toys to begin with, so make believe was an essential part of our play and television watching - such as in the Magic Garden, Sigmund, Sesame Street, Lambchop, Mr. Rogers, Dr. Who, etc. Additionally, the weirdness/creativity of these shows was the norm - keep in mind that the adults of this time writing the show were going through a cultural revolution that included a lot of hallucinogenic drugs and mind expanding soul searching and storytelling experimentation. Additionally, people then weren't afraid that big concepts like mortality or evolution were too much for kids to handle. Anyway - RIP Spencer Milligan.
I really was born at the perfect time and place. I watched “Land of the Lost” on its original run from age 7-9, saw “Star Wars” in the movie theater at age 10, and not long afterward I learned that Paul McCartney had been in another band before Wings. Being a ‘70s kid was the greatest.
I have weird fever-dream memories of watching reruns of this show in the 80s when I was little. I've always kept it in the back of my head like, that weird live action dinosaur show.
I was in kindergarten in the late 70s and Land of the Lost was still going strong in syndication. One day, in class, we were asked about the things we dream about. One common theme that popped up was dreaming about dinosaurs. My teacher finally had to say, "No more dinosaur dreams! What else do we dream about?" Sleestacks. We all dreamed about being captured by sleestacks.
Nailed it. The two potential endings, the deep sci-fi scenarios, the third season being utter shit... Can't think of anything to add... Except to point out that while the LotL eps are no longer free on YT, you *can* still find them all over on Dailymotion!
I too stumbled across a show. It was on UA-cam. It had a real group of Interesting characters. The setting was on a trampoline for Backyard wrestling. Longtime follower. I hope you follow your dreams. Whatever lies ahead... just believe that good things come. Everything happens for a reason!
Netflix has a reboot of Lost in Space which is a lot of fun. I think Land of the Lost would work really well for something like that. They could even crossover because of that twist half way through.
Season 3 might be bad, but it did introduce a giant fire-breathing Dimetrodon; something so simultaneously very silly and really cool that I'm putting it in my next D&D campaign.
Full disclosure, the only time I ever watch the show was when I was a real small child around ‘80/‘81. But it apparently made a huge impression on me. As weird as this sounds, I do remember the little girl with the blonde pixie tails in that checkered shirt. To this day anywhere I see that pattern I think of Land of the Lost. Especially that opening sequence. Also, for some reason tomato soup in a little yellow bowl and a grilled cheese sandwich. Maybe my mom used to make it or something who knows. All I know is you’ve unlocked some memories.
Pretty sure he sang with the Osmonds not the Jackson 5...land of the lost was a special kind of weird as well as anything sid and Marty Kroft made back then lol
I’m 26 but i would watch this show as a kid before i went to school because they would do reruns at 6am on one of the channels. my pet lizard who’s 20 years old is named enik.
Wait, so it's just a weird, primitive island or something? Hhhhuh. I watched the remake in the nineties, and I could've sworn that one involved time travel...
I remember liking the first two seasons, it was always on with different cable channels at my grandmothers, season 3 was one that I didn't see that much of. The reboot was good, though with some of the things revealed about early plans, I'd have loved the alternate story even more since it was a continuation rather than a reboot. The movie, however, was just horrible
The saddest thing was that junk killed previous plans to make a serious movie that would feature the original cast members, straighten out all the flaky canon, allow the Marshalls story to have a true finale -- and even reconcile the contradicting elements between the 1970s and 1990s versions of the show, with those characters also being in the film!

@@AzraelThanatos - Thanks. I’ll look for the 90s version. I’ve heard of the other series. I’ll look for it, too.
@@Rashomon69 I think it's on Amazon, but not fully sure there

Good catch!

Thanks so much!
that's how it was for me too.
I remember watching this every Saturday as a kid in the 70s. I was petrified of the slestacks.

Even today for me special effects don't matter as much. I prefer a good story. I loved the original Land of the Lost
Whoa! Great full series review of one of my all-time favorite shows from my childhood. Really, really well done! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Agreed as I was a kid when it debut. I was blown away by the 24 vs 30 fps and didn't see it. You nailed it friend
I rarely meet someone who loves this show as much as I love it!!!
Very insightful. Thank you. This was one of my favorite shows growing up in the early eighties
This is a banger can’t wait to see more your going up sooon ❗️
Thanks!

Kids today don't even realize that McCartney was in Nirvana before he joined Kanye West's band...
This show was my SHIT growing up, and I’m gen z. I was a big dinosaur kid because of my name and that’s why I was given the dvd box for this show.
Nice!
Absolutely loved this show as a kid!!
I loved that show so much! Nice to see a younger generation appreciate it‘s brilliance

Thank you for posting this. Very well done!

I enjoyed Charles Nelson Reilly as Hoo Doo in Lidsville. Nick in Jupiter.
The confederate guy and his cannon were turned into stone by Medusa in season 3…
I used to watch the one on Nick as a kid. And I also remember watching this one, too! I loved it!
Great vid!! 🔥🔥🔥 your analysis was well put-together. I would polish a few minor deliveries here and there, but I overall enjoyed it.
Thanks!

Fair enough!

There was some crazy stuff back then. HR puff n stuff, the buggaloos, lidsville 😂
Absolutely 😂😂
I'm fine with reboots. But my taste would be as a family movie with a big budget animatronic Dopey, and Holly singing. It's cannon, so I can say that.
Somehow I didn’t know there was a 70s version. I only watched the 90s version (1991) as a kid on (reruns 1995-97) Nickelodeon.
I used to watch that on Saturday mornings with the sleestacks.
Pretty sure he sang with the Osmonds not the Jackson 5...land of the lost was a special kind of weird as well as anything sid and Marty Kroft made back then lol
Do you plan to take a review on the movie?

As a 70s kid, I love that.
Correction will would do days of our lives in the morning & the land of the lost in the afternoon.

The movie was so low quality compared to the show
also not to mention how unnecessarily hard the theme song goes
and the ending theme song too! 🔥
Never seen the Movie in It's Entirety.

Really well done. Don't be afraid to talk faster.
Wait, so it's just a weird, primitive island or something? Hhhhuh. I watched the remake in the nineties, and I could've sworn that one involved time travel...
I’m not sure about the 90’s remake! But in the original the Land is an in-between for other “worlds” it’s filled with doorways to other places
