This made me remember when I was traveling in Vietnam (right before covid at the start of 2020). While I was in Hanoi, I was staying in a hostel that offered free pho (chicken or beef) for breakfast. Long story short; I ended up devouring their beef pho every day for the week I was there, haha. So good! I have been looking to learn how to make my own pho since, but frankly; that whole "cooking for 6-7 hours" feels a bit intimidating. Will definitely be giving this a go!
I love this video! Your attention to detail and how thorough you are in demonstrations and even talking about all the tools you use made me really happy. Definitely need to try this soon :)
Just did this today, really great! I like tendon and tripe in my pho and I learned how to get that done without adding a lot of time to getting it all done. Probably get some spring rolls made next time during the 35 minute pressure cook.
Oh so awesome! Very amazing! Yeah this used to literally take my mom hours so when I got a response that my instant pot 35 min pho was better than hers it was a game changer. She’s happy.
Excellent teacher...down to earth ..maybe do a few more of your mom's and grandparent's old recipes n the future. bring them onto your videos as an expert guest
Great video. Been using the Instant Pot to make soups and Pho for the last few months. Can throw the cleaned tendons, ox tail in there for an hour and get a nice flavorful soup.
I'm a huge fan of pho, I've seen people talk about making it and never thought I could. I'm a disabled vet, I can't work. So I've gotten pretty good with an instapot since being Mr mom for a few years. I will definitely try this. Thank you
Hi Arnell. I’ve got the perfect solution: I get an IV bag, I dump out the fluids, fill with pho and we hook up to you. Soon your blood type will be PHO+
Go for it. I don’t add it because once it’s in you can’t take it out and people have different preferences. You can still add to your own bowl. Also…be sure you’re using a fish sauce made with anchovies from a place like Phu Quoc and not that fake stuff like 3 crabs.
Also why are you watching Instant Pot Pho videos alone in a dark room at 2am where your dad has to break down the door to check up on you? “Pho goodness sake”- Dad
Thanks! You can do both! They aren’t mutually exclusive. You know what would be so meta? Go to a restaurant, order pho while watching my pho videos. Then grow out your hair.
The thing floating above is not fats, that is the protein, which is rather good for the health, though it does not look nice as it makes bullion cloudy. My grandpa never took it away from the bullion. :)
Correct. It's not scum either...it's tasteless and odorless though so I don't want it because it also makes my broth cloudy. I can't have mom be disappointed that her son has long hair AND cloudly pho broth
Yeah MaryAnne! No one has time for all day pho! I’m sure the pressure cooker will be fine. It would take my mom sooo long, but I’d use that knowledge to my advantage to play more Super Mario Bros. There you have it- Vietnamese pho is now associated with Italian Plumbers.
@@dashboarddudes I like your idea of using torch. Charring on gas range risks setting off the fire alarm. In case you haven't seen it, this guy makes some serious pho broth. ua-cam.com/video/lVMm0JH8gFs/v-deo.html
@@dashboarddudes 😆Indeed, he's a very committed pho artisan. One thing I'd do differently from him is to season the bones, meat before roasting. Preferably overnight, to aid the Maillard reaction.
It was! Good eye! I like Thai Basil because I find stronger and I really want to taste the basil. Lemon basil is good too. Purple basil I find isn't that good.
My sis mentioned this video... Anywho... Gained her essence? Wait, did you eat your mother? Only way I know to gain an essence is to cut the heart out and eat it to gain their power, that's why after I ate that calculator I'm excellent at math.
All in all great video, and as for my sis watching this video at 2 am, well they go down very weird youtube rabbit holes, in this case it was better ways to make pho via the instapot.
My favorite thing to know this that I am official household name. As long as the message isn’t “hey there’s a video of a dude cooking his mom’s heart in an instant pot” I’m winning
Honestly you may be able to get everything at one grocery store nowadays. The items that may require you to go to an Asian grocery store would be Anise and the hoisin sauce.
Love the comment Lisa. I'm a fan, but it's like salt so I'd rather have people season however they want for their bowl instead of me doing it. It's like a hook: once it's in, it isn't coming out.
I think it’s up to the person if they want. I’m kind of a stickler for fish sauce and only like sauce from Phu Quoc and not 3 crabs or something like that. You can add to your own bowl, but if you add to the entire broth, you can’t take it out.
I’m screaming!!! I spend $18 on Phó A WEEK! I didn’t trust myself to make it. You gave me confidence especially because it’s mom and dad approved
Do what I do next time and scream in your head. It will silence the other voices 😳😳😳😳

Yeah instant pots not only save time, but transfer you back in time to these memories. Let me know how it goes!!!
Oh wow, what was the hotel!? 😂
I love Pho, and I have 3 Instant Pots. So this is a winner in my book, and I haven't even finished the video! Thanks for sharing this!
You can feed a village with all those instant pots
@@dashboarddudes Haha. :) They all have their roles, lol. Happy New Year!

Appreciate the kind words. I hate blogs and videos where I’m surprised by something mid lesson so I want to be upfront about everything
This is the first of your cooking videos that I've seen. Nicely done! And a new recipe for my InstantPot. I'll definitely give it a try.
Thanks so much! Just wait for instant pot chicken ramen coming up

I can eat two bowls of pho .30 bucks
Will have to wipe the dust off my ins pot beef Shane with vinegar. Cool

I like that he keep it simple

It’s like the phrase “KISS: Keep it simple stupid”….I’m pretty stupid

“She’s busy in the basement. I can help”

Gracias Rene! I have other ones too like sushi and handmade pasta. Those are fairly popular….unlike me in high school

Great! Does your mom char the onions? And I prefer 50/50 chili garlic sauce and hoisin sauce.
Yes! So I didn’t do it, but I’ll use a torch for the char. Interesting mix!!! I’m going to try that.
