Why not just use a circle shape with a stroke and no fill? Then you still have your vector shape. When you rasterize, you're locked in, all you have is pixels. You can do all this with shapes, that remain editable, which is what I'm doing right now. It's very powerful since you have the ability to change the fill, the stroke, the feathering, and it all stays editable.
