Got the 177s a few weeks ago. Love them.
You hit all the same points I share with people:
-more lively in the tips
-keeps the stability and precision of m5s
-carving sweet spot is wider than the m5 because of the 3D radius
-less dead, more lively and fun, especially noticeable at slower speeds
When I first got them, all I wanted to do was carve side to side because they were so lively and fun.
I see you went with the 177. I can’t decide on the 170 or the 177.
I am 174cm and 80kg. Sounds like you really liked the 177
2022 will be a great season of new skis.

These are great allrounders. Really responsive and precise to ride. Although have only ridden groomers couple of times but so far really glad that I bought these to replace my 15 year old Heads 😅 Some development has happened!

Interesting to see the nice flex you get out of the ski around 10:50. I know you’re a lighter guy Jeff, and the ski bend you get during those nicely carved turns would indicate the modifications they made to metal placement work well. Great review, as always.
Good eye! Yes, I think that's something they've improved with this new M6. I don't recall getting the M5 to flex quite as easily, but I also don't think they've lost any precision, edge grip, etc etc.

Great video by the way. I have been on a hiatus from skiing for 25 years. I am finally getting back into skiing as I now live in western Canada. I am an accomplished skier, intermediate to advanced by todays standards, I have skied all over Europe and North America and am looking for new skis. I used to ski on K2 (195's much straighter that todays parabolic designs) and I was curious if I should be looking to purchase 184's or 177's. I prefer a longer ski because of the type of skiing I do, a little more on the aggressive side, GS turns and plenty of speed with the ability to make shorter sharper turns when necessary. I have demoed some of the new technology but was not impressed with how some of the shorter skis chattered at higher speeds and felt unstable. I realize that there are so many variables with the different technology but based on the information I have gathered about the M6 skis, I think these are on my short list. Are you able to recommend a ski length or is this more of a personal preference?
Hi Wells! Without knowing your height and weight, it's tough to make an exact recommendation, but in general, especially for those used to longer skis, you should size to about your height. For example, I'm about 5'10" and prefer the 177 cm Mantra, which is almost exactly my height. Weight plays into it too, so if you're particularly lightweight or heavy, you can size down or up accordingly.

Hey Nick! I think you'd be happiest on the 184 cm. That length is proportionally similar to the 177 for me. I'm sure you could ski the 177 and have fun on it, but the 184 feels more appropriate for your size to me.
That sounds right to me too. I’m 6ft 155lbs and I’d even consider the 184s. I think you’ll be more in the sweet spot of the longer ski.
Interesting how you describe this ski. I had the m5 for the latter half of 2018/19 season until it was stolen early 19/20 season. I really did like it better than the kore, Brahma, enforcer, etc. you describing the easy tail release is exactly why my latest ski anything ski is the blackops 98 (now renamed holyshred). The east slarve and tight terrain in NE requires something different than wide open out west terrain. I would love to get on a pair of the m6 after listening to all the good things you have to say about it. This new sidecut and turn radius technology I am sure will show up in many more skis to come!
I'd be interesting to hear your take on the M6 if you get to ski it. Edge release and that "slarv-ability" isn't as easy as the Holyshred, but I do think it's noticeably easier than the M5.

@@matt02468 Same as the M5... 177 and 184 are the lengths we've been testing. We probably won't be doing any public demos at Stowe this season due to COVID and stuff, but there is a good chance we'll have some M6 demos at Pinnacle before the end of the season.

This new 3d radius sidecut is very similar to what Scott skis was doing years ago. But I like and believe these volkls have a much higher performance ceiling
What month do next year skis models usually start come out? I haven’t followed ski gear for a very long time. This one looks good though 😍
Traditionally, the ski industry trade show is the end of January, which is basically when everything is announced. We get a lot of "early" announcements in January, and this year there's no formal trade show, so things will likely be spread out a little but more.
Looking forward to picking up some half price M5s next Fall

That's Ryan Daniel! He's a local guy, good friend of a lot of people on our staff. He's in a decent amount of our content, always at our ski tests, etc. Good eye, though, he definitely has a different style than most skiers in videos. Strong racing background, hard to beat in our local ski bum series.
I spent five days demoing skis and ultimately picked the M6 Mantra 177. It really is a great all around ski. All of the others I tried had some drawback. This really doesn’t have some big trade-off/flaw like the others I tried. (Head kore 93, black ops escaper, Rossi experience 88, kendo 88, Salomon qst92, m5 mantra)

Great Video! I consider myself an intermediate skier not fully engaged in carving just yet but working to get better this year. I love the Mantras M6 and will be purchasing them soon, will these skis help me progress into carving? Or are they to advanced for me? I really want to start moving out of my skidding phase and focus more on carving this season, I feel this might be the right ski. Thoughts?
As long as you're willing to put some work in to progress your skiing, you'll do just fine. At first, there might be some struggles with turn initiation, but you can learn to drive the tip of the ski into a carve without feeling completely overwhelmed by the Mantra. The one thing I'd bring up which is more of a struggle for some skiers is the wider width. It might be worth considering the Kendo 88 over the Mantra. Same construction, same overall performance, just narrower so it's easier to get up on edge.

Let’s get this question out of the way!! How does it compare to the 97 Bonafide? Thanks Nick.
Pretty much the same conversation as the Bonafide vs the M5. The Mantra is a little more responsive and more precise, but I do think the Bonafide has more vibration damping. They basically achieve the same thing, the biggest difference is in the way they feel. Bonafides have 2.5 full sheets of titanal, so more of a "traditional" feel I suppose for a ski with metal. The Mantras react more quickly, and arguably are less fatiguing, although that's pretty close, both are relatively demanding.
Awesome review again guys! Best on YT. Question how are these weight wise compared to say Elan RipSticks I need a new carving ski but due to 2 knee reco’s (on the same knee) I need something light but performance oriented. I’m a former racer and ski instructor but have had trouble finding the right ski because of my injuries. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Definitely heavier than the Ripsticks, by a substantial amount in my opinion. I was reminded of that today as we were testing Elan. The Ripsticks don't have the power or precision of the Mantra, but they're far lighter. I kind of feel like the Ripsticks are like if you took the Mantra and the Volkl Blaze and combined their performance.

Funny how much new marketing jargon is invented every year. Good skiers can rip on 2x4s. I was looking forward to getting the M5. Maybe they’ll go on blow out sale this spring to make room for the 6.
I definitely think you'll be able to pick up an M5 at a discount, which is pretty awesome considering how good that ski is.

I (Jeff) personally find I can manipulate carving turn shape more easily in the 177. Each length really just works better for the size skier that should be choosing it, I think that's the easiest way to think about it. For example, Bob's experience on the 184 seemed similar to my experience on the 177.

I feel like I’m gonna love any size, but at almost 6‘5“ and 220 pounds, I feel like the 191 is where I should start. What’s your suggestion?
Selecting the correct size for the M6 holds a bit more weight than in previous models due to the way Volkl is tailoring the flex in each length. At your height and weight, the 191 would work well. Just understand that a longer ski will provide more stability at higher speeds and a bit more float in deeper snow, where a shorter ski will provide more ease of maneuverability.
Def going to buy this ski…currently ski a 163 Kendo and a 172 Rossi Soul 7 for deep days…thinking 161 will be too short and leaning towards 170…I’m 5’5” 165 type III skier…thoughts.
If you're a relatively strong skier and you like the idea of sizing up compared to your Kendos, go for it. I don't see any reason why you couldn't ski a 170 cm length at your ability level and I even think that size will be more supportive for your weight in general.
How does M6 Mantra compare to K2 Mindbender? I am looking for tighter sharper high speed control (as compared to my Volkl Blaze 2021 108 underfoot at long 186cm)
To me the M6 feels more refined, more precise, and more responsive on a groomer. It makes a ton of different turn shapes very easily and is a fantastic ski for high level, high speed skiing. The Mindbender has some of that too, but it's less precise and a little looser. Slightly easier to ski off-piste, in my opinion, but not the same precision on a groomer. Based on your description, it sounds to me like the M6 would be a better ski for you.
Also, I dream about my old pair of Volkl T-Rocks with Hammerheads... so playful and stable with the Scarpa T1’s. Do they still make that model, or what would be comparable in your mind?

You can kind of draw a line as a performance spectrum from "playful and light" to "powerful and heavier" and it would go Blaze, Deacon, M6. That's kind of over simplifying things, and obviously there's a big difference in width, rocker profile, etc, but that's a pretty important place to start. Blaze is lightest, quickest, best in off-piste terrain, M6 is beefier, stronger, more vibration damping, but harder to maneuver. Deacon feels in between the two in terms of weight, but it's best on firm snow in my opinion, or at least not as good in soft snow.

I still think the Bonafides are the most demanding ski out of that group, then the M6, then the Enforcer. And then it's kind of the opposite when it comes to just raw power and edge grip. To be honest, that's really oversimplifying things, and doesn't do the subtleties of each ski justice, but it's the easiest way to answer your question.
Thank you for an amazing detailed review!! Currently I am using K2 Potion 90xti, lives in Colorado & mostly does trees/freeride. I was so set on getting Secret 92 @ 163, but after this review, I have to get secret 96!!! With extra 4mm underfoot, would you recommend sticking to 163, or go down to 156? 156 seems too short but I need to be able to throw quick tight turns in the trees. I am 5' 8", about 135lb. very advanced - expert level. This would be my daily all mtn skis.
Hi Toko! No, I don't see any reason to go shorter with the Secret 96, especially considering your size. 156 seems exceptionally short for you. 163 sounds a lot better to me. I expect you could ski the 170 cm as well.

Hi Ethan! I think the M6 is a reasonable choice for an intermediate as long as you're relatively athletic and are continuing to progress in ability level. For length, at the intermediate level, I think 177 cm is probably best. 184 cm would be just about as tall as you, which kind of feels like overkill in the M6 for your ability level. 177 cm should be easier to handle without feeling unstable. If you like to ski fast or prefer longer skis, go 184, otherwise 177 should be fine.
I’m still on my 16’? Mantras. Best ski I ever had! I’m thinking about going to a head kore this season. But I don’t want to give up the stability and high speed thunder of the mantra. Should I consider the m6? What is the weight difference between those 2 skis.
I would consider the M6 over the Kore. If you're coming off a Mantra and like that feel, there's a good chance you won't love the feel of the Kore. Much, much lighter and doesn't have the vibration damping of the skis you have. If you're worried about losing high speed stability and vibration damping, Kore isn't the way to go. Most everyone who I've talked to who has owned a Mantra in the past and gets the M6 absolutely loves it.
Torn between the 177cm and 184cm. I’m 183cm tall and 175lbs. Since these seem a little easier to throw around for tighter turns I’m inclined to go with the 184. Thoughts?
My instincts are to go with the 184, yeah. Most people on our staff that are close to your size generally prefer the 184 over the 177.

I’m thinking about buying the m6 but not sure about the length. I have a 163cm that has been offered to me for a good price. I myself am 1.69 long.
I’m a good skier (skiing since 22 years) should 163cm be ok or do I have to spend a little bit more and go for a 170?

They've updated the Mantra again already? Well, I've been eyeing the M5 as a Kendo replacement... guess prices will be coming down on the M5! I don't think all shops have even gotten rid of all the 2019 Mantras yet which I believe are exactly the same as the 2020 (except for the paint job)

I am 6'0 tall, 160 lb, somewhere in the middle of intermediate and advanced, skiing mostly on piste. Should i go for 170 or 177 cm? Or even look more to racetiger model? Thanks
Did I already reply to this question? If so, my apologies, maybe it didn't go through. 177 cm should be a more appropriate length for your size than 170. Racetigers are much different skis. I would bring up Kendo 88, Deacon 84, etc as options before going all the way down to Racetiger, which is basically a recreational race ski.

actually my SKi is the Head Didier Cuche limited edition which I picked up on a Swiss Ski trip as far as I can find out based on the Titan, but may be a little stiffer
I like the current ski, as Long as it’s being driven, carving its sublime up to the mid 40’s MPH, short swing are good, running straight they tend to hook at the front, good through chopped snow and slush / wet snow
Off Piste /backcountry less forgiving
Sitting balanced mid ski it’s nervous running straight
I am 180 Lbs 6’2” 61 years old
I ski mainly front side, but like to go into bowls when conditions permit
Brought up on alpine ski’s I still have a tear in my eye for the Old P9
Hey Gary! The biggest difference is the width. The M6 is much wider than your Heads, so has more float in soft snow, tracks better through choppy conditions, etc. The M6 would be more fun when you go off-piste into bowls and other un-groomed terrain. If you end up getting one, I think you'd probably use your current skis on most groomer days, but would reach for the M6 when you get some soft snow and want to ski more un-groomed conditions.

Yup! Next year's skis. We typically start talking about the next season's skis this time of year as this is when brands start announcing their new lines and when we're able to start testing them.

Jeff, I usually love riding my volkl 90eights....how does the M6 sit regarding the surfy feeling that the 90eight gives....
Not quite as surfy, but I do think they have easier edge release than the M5, for sure. So, probably somewhere right in between the 90Eight and M5.

Hello! Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I think 184 is probably the way to go, specifically because you mention being a hard-charging skier. I'd worry more about 177 feeling twitchy at speed than I'd worry about the 184 being difficult to maneuver. Hope that helps!
Great review. I have some old Mantras (2013-2014) that I love. Can you describe the difference in M6 rocker profile versus my skis and the other iterations of Mantras?
I'd say the newer versions of the Mantra feel more similar to yours than the ski that was in between them, that reverse-camber/full-rocker Mantra. That said, these new skis feel a little quicker, and also lighter. The technology has improved quite a bit from 2014 until now, which is noticeable in their overall performance compared to the skis you have.

I would go 177. I'm slightly taller but slightly lighter and I prefer the 177.

Hello! From Volkl, probably the best ski for you would be either a Blaze 86 or 94. Both of those skis are easy to ski, lightweight, and very versatile. Good for someone like yourself. If you're in soft snow a lot, the 94 might be better, but if you're sticking to groomers, the 86 would be great. There are other skis from other manufacturers that would work too, but I think both of those skis are a great place to start and if you have any further questions, just let us know.

Great review.!! I'm 5'9" 265 lbs expert skier. What size do you recommend? How does this ski compare to the stormrider 95? It seems like it has similar characteristics. Thanks
177 or 184, and I feel like you'd be best off with the 184 just based on your weight. Depends how aggressive you are, I suppose, but if you're a fairly advanced skier who's moderately aggressive, I would go 184. Stormrider has a slightly softer flex pattern. It's a very smooth ski, although I do think the M6 is more responsive.
M6 v M102 ? Obviously a little quicker but does it feel much lighter? General comparison between the two? Thx
Really my thoughts on that comparison are the same as they were with the M5. It's more about edge to edge quickness and precision than anything else. The Mantra 102 definitely loses some of the quickness and overall performance on firm snow that the M5, and now M6, has. When I think about the Mantra 102, I think about arcing turns through chopped up bowls and stuff like that. The M6 feels like a more well-rounded all-mountain ski, mostly thanks to the fact it's quicker edge to edge and more responsive on firm snow.

That's me filming (Jeff). I'm typically always the one behind the camera, unless I'm lucky enough to be in front of it!
Would like to know more about how ‘3D radius’ is engineered. When you put a ski on its edge the widest points front & rear contact the ground and the ski bends into one radius for any given edge angle. With 3D is it just the case that the widest points are less pronounced, a bit like old ‘straight’ skis?
Yes, your last sentence basically nails it. Imagine the curvature just becoming longer as it reaches the tips and tails. Having a longer radius in the tips and tails has an effect on performance, perhaps most notably edge release, so in a way, yeah, kind of like a straight ski.
I’m curious as to how Volkl has achieved this since the shape of M6 is exactly the same M5? Or has there been refinement on the shape of the rocker/camber and shovel/tail shape? Very intriguing concept anyway. Thanks for the great review!
How would compare the new M6 to the Black Crows Justis? And which do you prefer?
In my opinion they feel a lot different. The M6 is a much more precise ski in the way it initiates a turn, holds in that turn, etc. The Justis has a surfy, smeary element to it that the shape of the M6 could never achieve, but then you give up a lot of that precision that the M6 has. It's hard to say which I prefer, it kind of just comes down to how and what I would want to ski.

Hey man rad vid. Im currently deciding between salomon s force 11 & the Mantra m6. Coming off of a slalom ski I know they are two different categories, but im trying to see which gives me more power, carve and speed. Wasn’t too happy with the Rossignol Elite SL that I had.
Im looking for something that is a beast on the piste which i do eastmountain mostly groomers, bit of jungle and some park but go west every once in a while off piste.can you help steer me to the right direction?
I think power, carving, and stability at speed is actually pretty close between those skis. The S/Force will obviously be a little quicker edge to edge, but you get a lot more versatility out of the M6 Mantra. From what you're saying, it does sound like the M6 is probably a more appropriate option.
Thoughts on comparing this to the liberty evolv100
They're actually quite similar overall. Both have strong edge grip, a damp, smooth feel, and plenty of power. I think it's fair to say the M6 is more precise and the Evolv100 is a little looser in softer snow conditions, but overall, pretty similar skis.
Hi. I am 6’1 187 lbs using RTMs 80 166cm for a while now and love the feel of Volks. An advanced skier. I am an all mountain skier, nothing intricate. Would you recommend an M6 or Kendo 88 and what length?
I'd think the Kendo might make a better option coming from an RTM 80. I'd think the 170 would be great in that ski.
The m6 has ruined every other ski for me. It is so powerful railing fast big or short turns. You set the edge and it rips inspiring confidence with amazing stability.
My question to Jeff or Bob is I just bought the Stockli Montero AR. The AR is no where near as powerful or confidence inspiring as the Mantra as the AR needs much more input. Would that change with a more aggressive edge put on the AR and maybe bring the bindings forward a skosh?
I'd think a .5 base bevel would get the AR more grabby for sure. Since it has less mass overall than Mantra, and given how strong and awesome Mantra is, I'm not terribly surprised to hear this. While we kept our Monteros on the line, it is one of those skis that we've heard a lot of feedback regarding a +1 on the mount.

What's the main differences in the Kendo vs. Mantra? I'd prefer a more stable and approachable ski that I can get to perform even at slow-to-medium speeds, my days of gang busters speed are over. I'm over 230lbs and intermediate level.
8mm. Honestly.
Pretty much just that 8 mm in width. They feel very similar. The Kendo is quicker edge to edge and I do think a little more approachable, however, mostly because it doesn't require as high of an edge angle.
Thanks for a very informative review. I have been on Blizzard Brahma's for the last 7 years. The first a173 and then a 180. I am an advanced skier 190lb and 6 foot. Probably ski 70% piste 30% trees/bumps. I am keen to try the M6 based on reviews but I am really undecided on what length. I am not getting any younger but have enjoyed the responsiveness of the Brahma. I can't tell a great deal of difference between the different lengths of Brahma I have and was thinking of sacrificing some straight line speed on an M6 for manoeuvrability and go for the 170cm rather than the 177cm which is probably the size most size guides say I should be on. Hey Ross! I would go 177 cm if I were you. I think you'll find the 177 cm M6 feels more maneuverable than your 180 cm Brahma, more like the 173 cm Brahma. The technology in the M6 makes it a little quicker, with lighter swing weight, and a little more forgiving. I worry far more that 170 cm would feel twitchy and unstable than 177 cm not being maneuverable enough for your preferences.
go with the 177. the ski rocks turns large and small with superb grip , strong hold - like a knife thru crud. I think a 6' person should be on a 180ish ski.
Would you say that with the next changes to the flex pattern and stiffness tailored to each sizes. The 191 size will become even more of a niche size for out west and really heavy people( 220lbs+)? thx!
I don't think the 191 in the M6 is more challenging to ski than the 191 M5, so hard to say it's more of a niche size, but I understand what you're getting at. I think in general it's just going to be easier for skiers to figure out what size works for them, and the performance of that size is going to match that skier's size and ability level better.
When do u expect these skis to hit the stores? Will this only be in November 2021 or already before that?
We should have them within a couple weeks! Volkl was saying mid-February, but what we're hearing most recently is that it could be early February.

I'm 5'10" 215lbs advanced/ expert skier. Ski a bit of everything, quite a bit of piste at the moment with my 10 yr old who's only just starting to off piste.

Are these the same as the secret 96s with a different top sheet? I'm a women, 5'6", ~130 pounds and am considering these or the secrets, 163 or 170s. I'm pretty aggressive and relatively powerful for my size, but planning to put a versatile AT binding on to bring it into Vermont backcountry and also ski in bounds. Any advice on which size? and whether the intended gender matters?
Yes, they're identical in shape and construction between the Secret 96 and M6 Mantra. So, gender doesn't matter at all here. For length, 163 cm feels like it would be plenty to me, especially if you're taking them into Vermont backcountry and tighter trees. 170 cm is a little taller than you, which feels like a lot in a ski like this without much rocker. Hi Jeff, thank you for a great review! I just tested Mantra M5 and was amazed how well they grip. Very stable in variety of speed and snow conditions, confidence inspiring and quite manageable (I ski older Bonafides). Now with M6, I am concerned that 3-D radius could bring split personality into these great skis instead of delivering real improvement. I did not like the feel of latest Kendo 88 I tested at the same time. They were lacking some... predictability (to certain degree), and been narrower they actually required more input. Could you please speak from your experience and clarity if my concerns have any ground? Thanks!
I don't feel like they have a split personality at all. I just feel like it's easier to flex the ski into a shorter radius carve. It still requires a significant amount of skier input to do so, you can't just tip it on edge and expect it to make a shorter turn. The M6 definitely doesn't lack any grip compared to the M5. They are very similar skis overall, the M6 just has some subtle improvements.

I’m 5,11 and really enjoyed the 170 m5. Hard to say we had great snow five inches and it skied great. I’m torn about going to 177 as I really like a playful ski. Have you guys ever skied or compared this to say a j ski master blaster??
It's pretty different from the masterblaster. It is much more directional in shape, and provides more power and edge hold on groomers. Length is based on height and ability level. We might be able to provide more advice if we had a bit more info on you as a skier, but if you enjoyed the 170 version of the M5, it's safe to say you would enjoy the M6 in the same length.

Hello! I think 163 cm is probably best if you want more control and maneuverability. You could ski the 170 cm length too, but it won't feel quite as easy to maneuver.
I’d really like to know the featured skiers height/weight and their chosen ski length, along with thought of sizing up/down. Also how about a quick comment comparing the M6 to a Vantage 97 in 180. I tried the M5 before the V97, and based on your comments of lower “swing weight”, that it would ski easier, like the V97 vs the heavier M5.
hey Brian! I (Jeff) am 5'10, 150ish, skied the 177. Bob's like 6'2, 215, skied the 184, Marcus is huge, like 6'6, 220, and may have even gone longer if we had the option during testing. Compared to the Vantage, the M6 definitely still feels heavier. Lighter swing weight than the M5, but not as light as the Vantages. We have some new Atomic skis to talk about soon, so keep your eyes out for that!

I’m curious what the 177 review is. I may have went undersized for my size. 6’1”, 212 lbs. But I talked myself into it, when I actually held the ski, and felt it. Just curious how a larger skier felt about the 177. I realize it’s literally different construction in a way. Have I undersized?
I'm 6/2 225 and I found the 177 to be too short. Not from a stability standpoint, but rather a turn shape one. I felt that for the speed that I wanted to travel, the ski felt like it wanted to be on edge too much. If you prefer shorter turns, then you're on the right length, but if you want to let them run a bit more, I'd go 184.
to ski the undergrowth and the bumps the blazer 94 or the mantra m6 from volkl?
Most skiers will prefer the Blaze for trees and bumps. It's lighter and has longer rocker, which combine to make it much more maneuverable. It's not as strong or as stable at speed as the Mantra, nor does it carve as well, but those are generally not major concerns for skiers who spend most of their time off trail. Hope that helps!
What size would you recommend for 5’ 8.5 at 175lb. I do tend to prefer a touch shorter but would appreciate your guidance.
Hi Benn! If you prefer a shorter ski, I think it probably makes sense to go 170 cm. It would be between the 177 and 170 in my opinion. I'm sure you could ski either length, but the 177 cm would be a little taller than you, which feels too big for someone who generally prefers shorter lengths.

I am currently skiing on an old set of Rossignol B2s (176cm in length). I haven't changed skis because I love my set of Rossignols. However, these skis are old, and new ones are needed. I am 60 years old, 6'.0", 225 pounds, advanced skier. I like to ski all terrain types. How much different will the M6 be from my Rossignol B2s? What length do you recommend for the M6? What bindings do you recommend?
There's a lot of precision and power in the M6. Very strong, smooth, and stable. That said, kind of a handful in the moguls and trees. We pair them with either the Marker Griffon or the Tyrolia Attack 14, and I'd go with the 177 in that ski. Have fun!
Will the Volkl Kendo 88 be getting a 2022 model update with the new carbon strings like in the m6?
No, not for 2022. I think it's fair to assume we'll see those changes trickle into the Kendo and a few other skis.
Do you think think a solid skier at about 145 lbs could handle this. Last time I bought a ski I was interested in the m5 but the sales rep thought that it would be to much at that weight. So I ended up with the 2019 vantage 90 ti instead.
Yeah, for sure. I (Jeff) am not much heavier than that, and I really like skiing the M5. Interestingly, that Vantage 90 Ti is arguably stiffer than the Mantras, in my opinion. Lighter, but stiffer.

What size would you recommend for 5'10" 185#, racing background, mostly ski on firm western snow? I think my ideal size is 180 (right in between 177-184)
I'm a little bit lighter, but the same height, and I prefer skiing the 177. The M6 is a very stable ski, so I never feel like I need "extra" length. I prefer the shorter of the 2 lengths as I have an easier time manipulating turn shape and stuff like that.
They are a long measuring 177. Just FYI.
Guys, I currently am on RTM 84’s (181’s) which were a game changer for me from Rosi Bandits before. I am in the Midwest, ski mostly groomers but ski in the UP of Michigan mostly where we get powder dumps regularly so I loved the rocker forgiveness on my RTM’s. I am 6’ 184 lbs. I ski pretty quick with a lot of quick turns. I was a racer as a kid and in college but am now in my 60’s but not slowing down. Which Volkl is my next ski! Deacons or Mantas?
Can I throw a Kendo 88 into the discussion? If you're not looking to go full 96mm underfoot, the Kendo 88 provides excellent edge grip and energy, a wider, but not too wide, platform, and a bit more versatility for bumps and trees. If you're sticking to Deacon 84 versus Mantra, I'd go Deacon 84 as it sounds like you like the quicker turns. Have fun, lots of great choices here!
Does anyone prefer the Nordica Enforcer 100 over the Volkl M6?
For sure. If anything, I'd say there's about a 50/50 split among our testing of who prefers the Enforcer or who prefers the M6. Enforcer is a little looser, M6 is more precise, more race influence in its shape and feel.
Nothing better than the M5 at 20 mph+ carving knuckle dragging larger radius turns!!! Complete confidence. But I need something else in my quiver that is easier to initiate a turn, quicker edge to edge, and better in moguls, technical sections, etc. Any one have any suggestions for an aggressive ski with these characteristics???
Ha! Typical A.D.D guy. I didn't watch the whole video before I popped the question above. I have the 2019-20 Mantra and in reviewing the footage in the video (in its entirety) it appears as though the 2022 Mantra is MUCH better at shorter radius turns and quicker edge to edge. Still open to other suggestions per my question above though. Thanks!
It definitely is better at short radius turns for sure. Not tremendously quicker edge to edge, but I do think it's fair to say it's more responsive than the version you have. I still think it probably makes sense to at least consider a narrower ski. Maybe something like a Brahma 88 or Enforcer 88 to really give you more quickness and a shorter radius, then keep your Mantra for days you want to just let 'em run.
@@SkiEssentials Thanks so much for the response. Interestingly I had watched one of your reviews on the enforcer 88 and it does sound like it might be the right ski for the purposes I described. It also sounded like the Rossi EXP 84 could fall into that category, (but perhaps a little less aggressive). Any thoughts on the dynamics between those two skis?... I'm 180lbs, 5'9" aggressive skier (172-179cc?) - looking for faster edge to edge ski, that initiates a turn easier and works well in moguls... but still has the stability for faster skiing. Thanks again, really enjoy and appreciate the professional reviews!

Hi Jeff between the Mantra M6 and Volkl Kendo 88, which is the more versatile ski , currently ski a Volkl RTM 81 2016 model ,
which ski gives me the ability to handle crud and softer deeper snow conditions ? I'm 5'10" 165 lbs advanced skier. thanks !
If you have the 81, I'd get the M6 just to differentiate more. It carves great, and has more width for variable snow conditions and terrain. That's no slight against the Kendo, you seem to have the carving/frontside ski already in place. I'd go M6 in the 177 or 170, depending on length preference. Have fun!

I have some Shaggys Ahmeek 105 (180 length) that I love but I'm looking for something a little more nimble in the resort and I've landed on these. I'm 5'10, 175lbs, and expert skier. 177 length sounds right but I'm wondering if I should go down 170 to up the playfulness in quick turns in the trees. Any thoughts?
I'd think the 170 is better if you're looking for more nimble. The 177 is about head high on you, and for the Mantra, you can generally size down from there and not lose any stability because it's such a sturdy ski.
@SkiEssentials appreciate the response! Haven't had a 170 sized ski for probably 10 years, so it makes me nervous, but I def had some in bounds runs last year wishing for a quicker turn.
What size would you recommend for a 5'10" 195lb aggressive skier? 177 seems short. Definitely shorter than anything ive skied in a long while. I do plan to ski these when Im out with my 9 year old son, which means slower speeds, and lots of turning. I also plan to go mach chicken on firm groomers and would like them to be good in bumps too. Thanks!
Sounds like you're leaning to the 184. Nothing wrong with that size given your stats and application. Perhaps a bit cumbersome in the bumps or at slower speeds, but still pretty darn good overall.
How does the ski weight compare to the M5?
It's almost exactly the same overall, not much difference there, but the swing weight does feel lighter thanks to taking metal out of the extremities of the ski.
Hi I’m 5-11” and 205 pounds with a race back ground but I have a paralyzed right leg I currently ride 193 volkl vertigo from years back and am comfortable on them but would like a more versatile ski. I’m 62 years old and ski better than I can walk ha ha but need advice on the length of m6 I should get 177 or 183 any suggestions would be helpful I like to go fast on groomers but would like to go in the trees when the weather permits my right leg has a mind of it’s own so do you think shorter would give me more control and not effect my need for speed on the groomers?
I'd go 177 in that ski. It's pretty darn stable and sturdy even in shorter lengths.
I'm 6'0 about 190 lbs and am an aggressive skier who prefers groomers, should I be on 177 or 184?
At your size, I would go 184 cm, especially since you're mostly on groomers.

I thought the 2021 skis were just released for this season a few months ago. So confused.
Well 2021 will be a non-event, so skiers are starting to plan for 2022. At least here in Europe.
Typically next year's skis are always announced sometime in January. It's traditionally when all the ski industry trade shows take place, but most 2022 skis won't be available until the summer or fall, with some exceptions. Volkl is doing a limited early run on the M6 for February.
