- RK Meghen or Sanayaima, the former chief of the United National Liberation Front, met NewsClick in Imphal. In this interview to Siddhanth Aney he talks about his idea of Manipur and why the ST demand, one of the starting points of the present conflict, is antithetical to it.
He adds that the buck stops with Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Never imagined RK Meghan would be so mature and diplomatic as a person. Being a rebel leader people have wrong notion about him. But this interview has rightly brought out the real reason, analysis and way forward to heal the state. What he opines on ST demand is aptly true. Just by drum beating and shedding crocodile tear the fear on land issue cannot be addressed. The stake holder has to be approached amicably with a win win situation. Over all a very good interview.

Demand for ST status by the Meiteis is legitimate and an equitable one being of the similar stock in race. Without which the population of some 12+lakh of Meiteis in the 1+billion population of India is existentially under threat. It is to safeguard this existence of ethnic Manipuris that restoration of earlier ST status is necessary. The survival of Meiteis depend on it. Not to talk of the claim for land in the hills or job security is quite dwarfed when thinking in terms of existence. The land holding laws in itself is a time bomb waiting to burst and bound to do so looking into its colonial devide and rule policy being integrated. Hugely biased land holding law nowhere to be seen in any nation in the world continue to operate in the state.

I was hoping he would have given a very genuine perspective on the history, in fact upto the 30th minutes it was 50/50, but as a person who has been fighting for the independent of Manipur for the few decades, I was hoping more, his experiences living in Mayanmar for decades should've taught him the lessons.. Disappointed..

Kukis not being indigenous is a new narrative that surfaced in recent years as naga framework has become clear with the hurdle only with regards to the flag and constitution,other demands like integration of naga inhabited areas already being checked. This is the reason behind meiteis now parroting muivah's statement which of course has little historical basis. There was no india or Manipur. The whole stretch of northeast from burma to Bangladesh had a definite track of kuki settlements from time immemorial.Nobody owned those land,no tributes were paid. Because of their peculiar customs they had their chieftainships unlike the meiteis who grouped together under a kingship. Let's face it these were ancient,barbaric times of animals and humans living together in the mountains. Cant view from today's perspective.

I like what he said, Religion is actually an individual choice, we cannot take that away from an individual.
His or her life, his or her choice of belief. If we all understood, Co-existence would be so much easier. No one can force another to believe in this or that. If that be the case, give me a house, a car and 60,000 rupees every month and I will believe what you want me to believe. What is religion! It's man made, no holy book has ever been written by this God or that God. Besides, I doubt, that God takes sides. He does not interfere with out arguments or taking sides, from this war or that war. God is completely impartial to all His creations. We are our biggest problems and all this madness, is in our heads. We've only got this moment as a guarantee to our lives. The next moment, we could be dead. There is absolutely no guarantee to life and no one has ever cheated death, he's going to lose that bet. We welcome N. Biren Singh's policy of Separating the two community in different identity administration as Article 3 of the Indian constitution permit him to do so. Therefore, it'll be wise enough to enforce Articles 3 before it is too late.
Two options :
1. Straight away right to self determination for every community to decide their own destiny or
2. to create a mechanism/arrangement where there is no hegemony/dominance of one over others but instead co-exist peacefully on cooperation, dialogue and appreciation .

The older Kukis have to take a moral stand collectively and ask their illegally immigrated kith and kin to go back to Myanmar/Bangladesh. The Central govt politics which is at its all time low is hopeless in having political will, not just on paper or fake godi media but in a real sense, to make this happen through appropriate border immigration policy and policy with regards to already immigrated illegals.
After watching so so many interviews of high profile individuals relevant to Manipur situation on independant online news channels, I can say that it's this one where I saw someone speaking about a genuine permanent solution to this problem.
I think this elderly matured leader must come forward and take initiative to bring peace in manipur and encourage manipur people to support him for the progress of manipur especially at this peak of storm
