I actually let a few tears fall during the journey down market street. I literally just sat silently, weeping internally. This footage is so incredible. All these people had no idea that they were going to be seen 120 years later. Imagine waving into the future. 12:03 showed just how normal everything was. The dude was just pissing around, having a laugh, and probably forgot about it the next day, having no idea that over a century later, we'd all be watching him messing around in the street, and there's something so amazing about that. It's both sad, and heart-warming, that though these people are all long gone, there's still footage like this, and they can still be remembered.
What if everything you've ever done has been recorded and you'll see it someday off in the future because that's exactly what the Bible says will happen! So you better be making a great movie out of your life!
And this was Market Street in San Francisco in 1906 and the great earthquake was just days after this film was shot!
What country and city is this filmed at, please?? Thank u, should u choose to reply!!
Whenever I see old videos or old photographs, I always think, here’s a captured moment of these people’s lives, and then from his brief moment they then went on with the rest of their lives. It’s strangely haunting. Wow! The Market Street video made me feel as if I had stepped back in time.
that last long video was awesome!, really great experience being able to see what real life was like back 100+ years ago, not just see it in movies, thanks for sharing this one man!
These people never know that someone would be watching Them in 2020
The film was created for people to watch tf you mean the whole place in the 12:18 film was staged so it looked like it was busy
The way the world is going atm, nobody will be watching us in 2120.
It’s crazy to think how easily these could’ve just gone missing, destroyed, or unpreserved but we’ve managed to keep them all this time.
There is going to be a time where we dont have any pictures to show history , tech is moving so fast we dont value photo albums and we loose alot of picture when we upgrade our devices, thats something a photo does best , holds the memory in your hand , not on a screen .....
And yet women still send topless photos to their boyfriends then are surprised when they show up again later.
These people probably thought back then, "What will the future be like?" Now the future is looking at them thinking, "What was the past like?"

It's strange to think that in 120 years people will probably watch videos from 2019 and think: "Everyone in this video are dead"
no, they'll think "I can't believe people back then didnt live past 200 years" ... with the advancement of medical science people will be living to around 200 years old in the future.

I have not seen one accident. It's like organized chaos.
And nobody recorded vertically. It was a better time.
Given how large and unwieldy those movie cameras were, that would have been pretty much impossible.

It may look that way, and it may look more civilized then now. But there ain’t no such thing as safe or civilized.
Who else as a kid thought that in old times everything looked black and white.
Dude, the video you just watched just proved it did. What are you on about?
Hello genious. That is a videogame. We're talking about real life here.
No one is talking about how much IQ they had to make a camera or a technology at that time.
Back then just literally took a bunch of photos and put em all together like a slideshow.
the quality isn't that great, couldn't be that hard....
trying to do HD in 1891 That Would Be something!!!!
Seeing moving images like this for the first time must have been mind blowing for those people back then.
Yeah if you compare it to a still image, it's bafflingly futuristic in comparison. A *moving* picture. I think to a degree, technological evolution seems like magic before it's normalized.
The real amazing thing about this is that modern security cameras are worse than some of this footage
Those cameras suck, imagine how many crimes they could have solved with a 4k video quality
It’s quite mind blowing to think that, every person who was on earth at the time these videos were filmed is dead now.

Just think, everyone you see in this video is dead now. So sad... I wonder what it would be like to live in the 1800s or 1900s.. While they were all probably wondering how life would be in our time... Life is so precious and beautiful. appreciate every second you have like it's your last because you never know when your time has come....
I kinda like old fashion

I didn’t care much about old stuff as a kid mainly because I was brand new to the world, but as a young adult it seems more interesting.
And this also goes with stuff I’m brand new at. When I’m first learning something, I don’t care much about the past until I’ve had more experience. Like music or sports or the invention of something.

@@wyattthefilmguy Sadly, everyone born in the 1800s is now gone. The world's current oldest person was born in 1903.
Everyone dies. RIP to myself becouse someday we all die.
An older fellow told me he was afraid to die. I told him we all are but who knows it might be fun?
He says, "How the hell could it be fun"?
I said, how the hell do I know I never died yet.
Ray Pellerin, we can fear less about death if we try to achieve peace with God and with ourselves. We can acheive peace with God by worshipping Him and believing in all His prophets; Adam, Noah, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad and the rest, and we can have peace with ourselves by being kind to our fellow human beings, animals and all that exists. Striking balance in all that we do as the Creator commands " And forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as God has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, God likes not the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts)". Qur'an 28 : 77
This idiotic, meaningless "R.I.P." again... Do you think these dead souls will suddenly have a more peaceful afterlife after you typed three letters in a youtube comment? DUMB!
Can you imagine in about 100 years, nobody knows who you are, and all the things you did doesn’t matter. You’re just forgotten. Live life, enjoy every second of it.❤️
I must disagree with your statement. If we are not remembered by the masses, what we have done in our lives will make an impression on someone that could help them make the world a better place. We are never forgotten. We do need to love our lives and those in it. “Do not squander time, for that is the things that dreams are made of.” Margaret Hamilton

Not sure why but the ride down Market St. Made me a little emotional. looking at all those people that are all gone and seeing the children obviously noticing the camera . Who are they? What did they grow up to be? Just so beautiful. I LOVE history and things like this. Ty.
They knew that camera thing was out of place somehow. Some were instantly drawn to it. Thats very fascinating.
Most of the children probably didn't grow up to be anything considering it was just before the 1906 quake
Yes I agree: apparently that was filmed in SAN Francisco and the following day the city was destroyed by a earthquake: there’s more accurate information in earlier comments.
I like how everyone is driving and walking with no rules. 😂😂😂
I know, it's crazy! On foot, on bikes, on horses, on horse and buggy, on trolleys and in cars going in all directions and nobody hits each other!
Someday, 100 years from now, someone will also watch how people lived in 2019.
Till then, Islam has already taken over the world and eliminated the dirty unGodly western civilization. God willing!
1888 is not filmed by EDITION. Louis Le Prince was the first person to create moving pictures.

“Hey yo your video is gonna be on youtube!”
A guy from 1888: “I beg your pardon?”
It's weird to think that all of these videos were taken before disasters like the Titanic, 9/11, and before both world wars...
not really..... there were many disaasters and wars before then too.
Maby more casualties happened before that. Small pox and cholera killed hundreds of million of people. Many women died during labor. And prior to that war was such a constant occurence that people always feared that war was going to happen at any time. WW1, WW2 was a very tragic moment in history. 9/11? Titanic? Less than 20,000 people died. Its not one of the most tragic incident in history
It makes me cry when i think of of how many suffered during the great wars. War only brings pain it hurts my heart!
and before the federal reserve and income tax were established in 1913 ....the greatest tragedy of them all
How fascinating to look back in time like this. Thanks for sharing these videos. They give us a glimpse of people and times long ago.
Its crazy how we look at them and say wow thats old but in the film it was the present and was modern to them.
We think we have arrived in the modern world, but in fact we're just as old fashioned as these people. We're just one more step along the evolutionary road that leads who knows where.
Kind of sad when I think that all those people, even the children are all gone now. Makes me feel rather insignificant, just another person who will also be gone in the future. I know, I'm kind of morbid I guess.
You can live on forever, just accept Jesus as your lord and savior and believe in him and his ways. Then you will face eternal life with God forever !
@7thGenDinosaur will it be nonsense when your dying? Not wishing that on you but keep a open mind and spirit.
@Sup I’m fine with you practicing religion. I am Christian myself. Though it was kind of inconsiderate to shove it in his face. You can’t force people to believe something.

Thomas Edison did not film the Garden Video, 2:56, it's called the Roundhay Garden Video, it was filmed by Frenchman Louis Le Prince in Roundhay Leeds, UK on October 14, 1888. It is the oldest video known to exist but, Thomas Edison had nothing to do with it.
just a beautiful travel in time. It is hard to believe, but someday we all be only a memory luckily recorded on someone's camera...
But this time in HD

maybe you memories will be digitizated, so your families can access them through some device
When i used to see Google streets driving around I'd feel like the kids in the final clip lol
What creeps me out about those old videos is that I know everyone who's in them are dead. Everyone in the world then is now dead. Just thinking that some day in 120+ years everyone alive now will be dead and the only thing that'll survive to let anyone else know we existed are the photos and videos we take.
possibly, but some chance for the youngest generation today to live substantially longer due to computer and biotechnology
The first motion picture was not created by Edison. It was created by Louie LePrince - The Man Who Created Motion Pictures by Paul Fischer
You are absolutely correct!! I was taught in school in the 60's that Edison created the motion picture camera in 1893. Close to truth but apparently not true.

Honestly i think that wpuld never happenned but if it does id rlly go back in time even if its full of cruel things, like wars i rlly want to explore whats luke living back in the old days and see what people do with no gadgets like us were in this generarion currently
Time machine came to my mind as well...You could jump into that period in time!!
It wont happen. Why? Because nobody in the future has travel back in time
Everyone had someplace to be, men on their way to work, children on their way to school, some folks still riding horses which is my favorite part.... The cars, the crowded streets, everyone staring and watching in awe & curiosity.... not knowing literally 200 years from then, people like us would be so astounded by what was so simple to them.
Those people are long forgotten now... nobody remembers their names, their professions, their habits, their thoughts, their voices and most importantly, their personalities. They just vanish in history. Though, today they appear on our screens as some kind of silent and anonymous reminders that the single human life is so unimportant in this world and yet unique in its time.
Probably 60 or 70 years after my death, the last person knowing me will be dead, it'll then just take a few more until I turned into one of those silent reminders being nothing more than an example of how people used to look like in 2018.
Technology invented things that could posthumously help us stay a bit longer, saving our existence in digital data but that in fact could make us disappear even faster...just one click. But still, imagine that your picture has survived centuries and that one day people might catch your glance thinking: "This guy is 1000 years dead now, wonder what he's seen." Not looking at a painted something but into your real face...and think about all what we think about watching those people in 1906.
Having a nice life just to vanish in history is okay though, I think...
vincentanno1997 Our bodies die. The soul never dies. And when Jesus returns our bodies will be glorified like His. Turn to Him. Seek and you shall find. Read 1 Corinthians 15. The resurrection chapter. He did not die in vain. Believe and you will live! No fear!

It's like a sort of time travelling...And the music is so beautiful. Wow, what a strange feeling.
I'm currently making a memorial video for my dear mom (1932-2019) who passed 6 weeks ago. Her mom, who was born in 1907, grew up on South Rimpau Blvd in Los Angeles. The same street my mom grew up on. Her family kept amazing photographic records. I have a 1918 class photo from Cienega School, now Cienega Elementary, where both of my mom's parents are pictured at age 11- before they were a couple. Grandpa was best friends with my Grandma's brother. Grandma's dad (my Great Grandad) was a second generation Angeleno, and his dad (my Great Great) was born in 1844. He was a first generation Angeleno who opened the first plumbing shop in Los Angeles. Being the only plumber, his business thrived and he bought an 8 bedroom mansion in West Adams. He had 12 kids (4 died before reaching adulthood.) He also bought real estate. Enough land, that if it was still in the family today, would be worth over 50 billion. But alas, I am just a middle-class dad. A 5th generation Californian in his 60's not much land except the quarter acre lot that my small house sits on. Yet when I die in 10-20 years, I will have a wealth of history to pass along to my kids. My ancestors believed that people had value and deserved to be valued. That kind of wealth can't be monetarily tabulated, but will live on in the bloodlines of my children and theirs...if they ever have any. Peace, all.
The coolest thing is me realizing none of these people are alive today and they lived they life with joy 🙏🏿
The boy cycling alongside the train... the carelessness of youth, the seemingly endless days. He's most likely long gone now. It must have looked such a novelty having a camera on a train. Hope he had a good life.

Maybe it's because I'm a photographer , that I'm connected to this so much...or, maybe it's just due to the fact that I'm simply human
These are incredible moments. Glimpses into history. I think you are valid in feeling emotional. As you said, we are human. We are emotional beings.

Wow, It's been 8 months since i commented here.
Even the youngest person you see here, his life has passed.....
Yes, and it’s fine huh? Imagine how bad would be being alive in 2020
I don’t have any hope at society and human anymore. We didn’t evolve by humans, all we do is fight. Fight on the internet, without empathy and wanting people you don’t like to die. I hate social medias, the end of the world is coming. I’m not saying about the bible, but about humanity.
----
For sure it is true, but one video was recorded in 1906 and today there are supercentenaries that were born at that time.
@@tinne111 The most evil thing people do is to deny the imperfectability of the human condition. Trying to create a better humanity is the cause of war and tyranny.
@@tinne111 Yes, this world we live in is wicked. Very wicked. There are a lot of evil things in this world. People killing other people, people fighting over an absolute poor reason, people hating other people, people harming each other. This world is very wicked! But, instead of focusing on the bad in things we can look at the good. Look in the good in things, we got to wake up today; this day was made for us. A lot of people did not wake up today. No one in your family passed away today, no one got sick or harmed. Although it is hard to do that. I tried to look in the good in things and failed many times. But when you wake up just know this day was made for you! Don’t let the people around you affect how you see other people. Yes, everyone has done bad many times and that will never stop. But looking at the good in things is best than looking at the bad. If social media is making you give up in humanity than delete what it is that is making you feel like that. Take a long break from it and enjoy life. I try to get in social media less but here I am. I’m going to keep working on it though, I want to enjoy life, than rather let this phone distract me. But of course in school we need to use our phones all the time now. But take a break if you need to, if it’s warm where you live read a book outside! Hear the birds chirping above you, enjoy life while you can. Since we don’t know when we will move on. Remember to maybe try focusing on the good in things than the bad. Pay no attention to the bad if you can. May God bless you.

TheWindAmongTheReeds this people in the video migrated from Europe and took the land from natives and even went further to steal people from Africa to help them build their country
Sadly the future does not look good. A few days ago I saw a man on the ground and in a way his eyes was open and he was totally still in other words he looked dead. Everyone just walked past him and did not care so I walked over there to check on him.. humanity is lost no love no compassion left. Soon people will walk around like robots if the population does not wake up and see where we are heading.
Even though there not here physically with us ...those memories will always last long for eternily..... 💕😊love u all........we miss you....
Imagine that. All the people were unknowingly waving at the future. It’s crazy how far we’ve come
My Great Grandfather was born in 1895 he would’ve definitely remembered these videos
Yeah soon I’ll have a great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandson it’ll be generation beyond generation
Being in a history class, it’s really hard to feel connected to a piece of text from a textbook. Watching people from the actual time, however, makes me see it through a whole new lens. What I’m reading about in my textbook was relevant to almost everyone’s life’s at one point. Just something I thought I’d share.
so happy, keep finding those textbook loopholes... there is so much lost history, and you smart kiddo, you go find it, you are OUR future!! hugs..
They are all gone; life is realy a short adventure.
@Finn hahaa 100% same with u, thats one thing that i wants in my life, life is complicated
The Roundhay Garden scene was not filmed by Edison but by Louis Le Prince in England.
YES! Edison took credit for MANY others' works, and wasn't above committing crimes in the process. He was brilliant but a piece of [scum] at the same time.
Imagine all these people will be remember forever for being in the first films.
Hello to 2119 from 2019, I hope you get better life. ❤️
Yeah, hey, thanks. Yeah, most of us have the new iPhone 234s plus with the flux capacitor so that we can go back and post on social media before we did. Hey, here's a tip. Invest in Yahoo. Gonna do real well in 2000.
Wait. What year do I have this thing set at? Stupid autocorrect.
This is not just an ordinary video.
This is a memories and history.
Jon Reyes Actually, a lot of people were alive during that time, hence how they were filmed. I assume you meant no one who was alive the, is alive now, but still, who cares. Nobody. The videos are somebodies memories, and sure, they’re dead now, but they were somebody’s. The videos are history, because they are some of the first videos. In other words, fuck off.
Ever feel like everything changes but in reality, nothing changes? 2 steps forward, 3 steps back?
Everyone wants a happy life and a happy ending. Here’s to hoping you get yours
Whomever filmed these back then, probably never dreamed of their footage being shown over 100 years later. It's so surreal to watch real life footage from that time
If they lived only to the 1920s they'll have already realized how important and valuable their breakthrough work was.
I so get you! When I was at the Buffalo Bill Cody museum in Cody, Wyoming and I found myself staring at the EXACT costume he is seen wearing in the film clip alongside Chief Sitting Bull in their Wild West film, I was lost in time for a few mesmerizing moments myself and not ashamed to admit it because the look on my face surely registered "Out to Lunch" in those same few moments! 😅🤣😂
You couldn't be more wrong!
Dreaming about their footage being shown far, far into the future was EXACTLY what they were dreaming about. THAT very dream is what motivated them to invent movies in the first place!
@@mrfester42 Correct, Thomas Edison invented moving pictures to capture and preserve live action
Whoever you are there running, walking, talking, making noise and staring into the camera know that I saw you but you'll never see me and so goodbye...
It’s funny how we all want to live a luxury life and yet forget that when the time comes, we won’t take anything with us in our graves.
Armaan Dean "Listen to me, when the time comes, you gotta run and don't look back... this is over."
Has anyone ever seen a Hearse with a luggage rack?
Can't take it with you.
We leave this world the same way we came into it.
dear audience in 2200, when you read this, I could probably be long gone, but I'm passing my love, bless, and best wishes to you and your future generations. peace!
