Bathory to jeden z najbardziej znaczących zespołów w muzyce black metalowej i viking metalowej, mający jednocześnie największy wpływ na kierunki rozwoju tych dwóch odmian metalu]. Wraz z wydaniem albumu Blood Fire Death a następnie Hammerheart styl grupy ewoluował w kierunku łagodniejszej muzyki, charakteryzującej się wolnymi, epickimi utworami z towarzyszeniem chórów. W warstwie lirycznej, treści satanistyczne ustąpiły miejsca tematyce nordyckiej mitologii. W tej stylistyce zespół wydał jeszcze albumy Twilight of the Gods, Blood on Ice oraz Nordland I i Nordland II. Where some see excessive theme-length, one should deem the very nature of ritual. I for one know that, for instance, ''Hammerheart'' is probably Bathory's most popular work amongst the Neo/dark Folk clique (or at least was). It's a monument of Pagan pride, an unmistakable declaration of intents, and his actual second skin. He was quite a character - remember the 1990 promotion tour that brought Quorthon here in Portugal - there's footage of it with teenage Langsuyar and Belathauzer interviewing their master, and that's Bathistory !
This record captures your soul from the very beginning, listening to those waves crashing on the shore... A masterpiece through and through along with that iconic cover - Dicksee's _The Funeral of a Viking._ Quorthon was truly one of a kind, never forgotten!
Valhalla was the first Bathory's song that I heard, because in 2003 maybe 2004 I was into power metal and I was trying to download Valhalla by Blind Guardian via Ares, so by mistake I downloaded this song. The rest is history...
I found this album after being told to give this band a listen. It wasn't specified that I should pick this album but lucky me.
